Vol 1 Chapter 34
The underground cave, damaged in various places, looked in serious condition, but it didn't matter since everything would be restored over time anyway. And as they retraced their steps along the paths they had come through, Kapros finally felt the reality of having defeated a boss and found himself smiling without realizing it. It was truly all over now.
The moment they emerged outside where they could see sunlight again, despite severe injuries and depleting health, the unusually refreshing feeling was largely due to the fact that he could now part ways with that strange guy and go his own way.
As Kapros and Yu-wan, both looking like half-beggars, staggered out, the gazes of several users gathered in front of the dungeon focused on the two of them. However, Kapros was in such a precarious state, on the verge of death, that he couldn't even care about those stares. As soon as the tension that had enveloped his entire body disappeared, he collapsed to his knees with a sigh, causing Yu-wan to stop, seemingly surprised.
Damn... I'm going to die.
Cursing himself for not carrying even a single potion usually, and wondering if he should just lie down on the ground and wait for his health to slowly recover, suddenly a potion bottle appeared in front of his eyes. Surprisingly, the hand offering the potion was Yu-wan's.
"Drink it."
Though Kapros wondered why he hadn't given it earlier, he accepted the potion without hesitation and drank it. As the red liquid flowed down his throat, he felt vitality gradually filling his body. Judging by its extremely fast effect, it was clearly an expensive product.
He had thought potions would be tasteless, but this one somehow tasted like drinking liquid strawberry-flavored toothpaste...
While Kapros was drinking the potion with such mixed feelings, Yu-wan also took out a potion, drank it in one go, and then took out another to pour on his wounds. Simultaneously amazed at the visibly clean healing wounds, Kapros saved a little of what he was drinking and poured it on his own wounds as well. Although the wounds hadn't been very painful due to the much lower pain sensation in the game compared to reality, seeing them like this somehow made them feel more painful, which wasn't a pleasant feeling.
Feeling the cleanly healed wounds and his much-improved physical condition, Kapros waited for a while until his health recovered to some extent before standing up. Even then, Yu-wan stood there silently without saying a word. Having seen the end of the dungeon as he had initially aimed for, Kapros was planning to leave this city now. Although not fully recovered, he wasn't particularly worried as his health and magical power would continue to recover as he walked slowly. Now that the party's purpose was over, he could just say goodbye appropriately and leave.
"Thanks for the potion. Well then."
As expected, there was no response. Thinking he knew it would be like this, Kapros was about to turn around and leave when a low voice was heard.
"Your name is... Kap?"
"...What about it?"
After Kapros answered cautiously, Yu-wan, who had kept his mouth tightly shut for a moment, seemed to make up his mind and stared at him intently.
"I'd like you to teach me about magic."
"What?"
"Just showing me would be fine too."
Hearing these unexpected words, Kapros reflexively asked back, but then remembering his earlier thought that the easiest path would be to not exchange any more words with this strange guy, he shook his head firmly.
"Go to the Wizard Tower. I'm in a hurry. Goodbye then."
However, as soon as Kapros took a step, he had to turn around again due to a force grabbing his arm from behind.
'This guy, what's his deal since earlier?'
Hiding his rising anger behind an expressionless face, Kapros stared at Yu-wan, who began to speak more quickly than before.
"The magic you used earlier. I've never seen it anywhere else."
"Is that so? I guess you haven't seen a 4th circle mage before. And..."
After quietly answering, Kapros struck Yu-wan's arm with the edge of his free hand. Aiming for the joint, considering the difference in strength between himself as a mage and Yu-wan as a swordsman, seemed to work as Yu-wan grimaced and lowered his arm. With his intense, movie star-like features, even that somehow made for a striking image, and all the surrounding users glanced at Yu-wan. This is why Kapros disliked eye-catching guys. It made those with them stand out too.
Kapros quickly twisted his hand free, stepped back, and smiled.
"I don't want to see the face of the guy who's been doing all sorts of suspicious things since the 3rd floor anymore. Just go your own way nicely."
It had been a while since he had spoken so much to one person. Turning away from Yu-wan, who had his eyes wide open, Kapros calmly walked in the opposite direction from where they had come. Yu-wan didn't say anything strange or try to grab him again. After a while, Kapros was able to enter the mountain path that led to other cities from Asgar, as he had intended.
His primary goal was to acquire and master as many magic books as possible. The thought of the vast variety of magic books existing in the world was an exciting challenge. Kapros quickened his pace happily.
Although he hadn't expected to be able to reach another city so easily from the start, walking continuously for days after leaving was a very tedious task. Hunting the wild animals or monsters that suddenly appeared in between was only interesting at first, and by the time he became so accustomed to it that he could reflexively roast them, a small town appeared. It was literally a small town, not a city, with only a few NPCs, a couple of shops, and sparse passersby, but Kapros was grateful enough for even that.
He rented a room at a small inn for health recovery and went outside. After buying a few bottles of potion from a street vendor leisurely displaying their items, selling off useless items he had collected while crossing the mountains, and disposing of the hood that had become a rag after the previous dungeon hunt, he finally felt a sense of leisure as if he had completed all his tasks.
And when he returned to the inn with a satisfied feeling and opened the door, the moment he saw the expressionless face of a man standing in front of the NPC innkeeper, Kapros quickly closed the door he had opened and peered through the gap, half surprised and half puzzled. Although several days had passed since leaving Asgar, perhaps because he had left such a strong impression, the name immediately came to mind.
'Yu-wan, was it... Why is that guy here?'
