Vol 1 Chapter 40
"Sorry? If you're sorry, there should be compensation!"
Ding.
- Hans and Friends' Extortion Event has been created.
"..."
For a moment, Kapros was at a loss for words, dumbfounded.
He had thought their reaction was quite predictable and intense for users, but they were NPCs, and on top of that, an event was created from this confrontation?
Looking them over carefully once more, their snickering faces really irritated him.
"I already apologized. Step aside now while I'm still being nice."
He tried speaking nicely at first, but of course, it didn't work. The smiles on their faces only grew wider.
"Aang? What did you say? What did you just say after bumping into someone, huh?"
"You should pay for medical expenses, medical expenses!"
"Our Hans is so delicate that even one hit could break his bones. Right?"
All three of them had huge builds that looked like they wouldn't fall even if Kapros hit them once, and their swaggering stance was completely typical of thugs. Admiring THE MIST, the main server supercomputer of Mist that even created such a ridiculous event, Kapros quietly smiled.
There was plenty of time until Yu-wan would arrive anyway. Rather than spending that time bored, it might be better to deal with these guys while waiting...
"Wait!"
Just as he was about to move his fingers and start chanting a spell, with perfect timing, someone ran into the alley, casting a long shadow.
"What are you guys doing now!"
Both the guys trying to extort money and Kapros turned their heads in the same direction simultaneously. A man wearing silver armor and waving light blonde hair stood at the entrance of the alley in a dignified pose.
...He was dazzling.
As Kapros was thinking how embarrassingly flashy the man was, the man took wide strides forward and drew his sword with a swish.
"Threatening someone for money in broad daylight, in a place like this? Such injustice that I've witnessed will never be allowed in this Torelit!"
He's out of his mind. Kapros downgraded the man's status from dazzling guy to somewhat crazy guy.
"Who the hell is that guy?"
Even Hans, the NPC, muttered blankly as if he couldn't believe it, and the guys around him all shook their heads in unison.
"Don't know. He seems to be yapping about something."
"Let's ignore him."
Kapros thought so too. Compared to those cringe-worthy lines, the dialogue of these not-so-funny thugs called Hans and friends seemed more original.
"You there! Don't worry! I'll take care of these guys right away. Haah!"
And despite being implicitly ignored by everyone, the man in silver armor, who didn't get angry at all, raised his sword and charged, swinging it in a zigzag pattern three times.
"..."
For a moment, silence hung in the alley.
Nothing had happened, so what...
"Arghhhh!"
"Aaaagh!"
Kapros was a bit surprised. Just as he thought nothing had happened, suddenly the men's bodies were precisely bisected. They died and disappeared instantly with gushing blood.
Ding.
- Hans and Friends' Extortion Event has ended. However, as it was not defeated by the event participant but forcibly terminated, there is no reward.
"..."
Kapros quietly closed his mouth.
How much experience could he have gained from defeating those third-rate gangsters, and how good of a reward could he have gotten? But having someone else snatch it away was a different matter. The guy who had suddenly barged in was now perceived as even more unpleasant than Hans.
"Are you alright?"
The guy in silver armor put his sword back in its scabbard and approached, pretending to be concerned. Kapros stood with his arms crossed, glaring at the guy's face with murderous intent.
"...What's wrong? The enemies are gone now..."
The guy stopped in his tracks, flinching as he approached.
"My goodness... I'm speechless."
As Kapros spoke coldly for the first time, the silver armor looked at his face with an expression of incomprehension.
"Uh... I..."
"Who told you it was okay to interfere in other people's business as you please?"
Since the guy had used polite speech, Kapros also replied politely while suppressing his murderous intent, but the guy still had the same clueless expression.
"Ah..."
"Kap."
At that moment, Yu-wan's voice was heard from behind.
Clang! Clang!
Yu-wan seemed to have misunderstood the situation somewhat. The sword he swung down in an instant, making a wind-cutting sound as he rushed in, was blocked by the surprised silver armor's sword. As his attack was blocked more easily than expected, Yu-wan's eyes changed. Afterward, the two clashed a couple of times in the blink of an eye with the sound of clashing metal, and began to growl at each other with their trembling swords pressed against each other.
"What on earth are you doing all of a sudden?"
As the silver armor spoke through their crossed blades as if in disbelief, Yu-wan lowered his voice and said,
"That's my line. I'd like you to explain what you're doing in front of my friend..."
Perhaps because they hadn't exactly agreed to be proper friends, Yu-wan hesitated to call Kapros a friend right away, and as he glanced at Kapros while speaking, the silver armor's eyes widened.
Light, brilliant blonde hair and bright brown eyes almost bordering on red... It matched well with the dazzling armor, but compared to the overall dark appearance of Kapros and Yu-wan, it was an incredibly bright color.
"I didn't do anything!"
"Your expression suggests otherwise."
After glancing at Kapros's expression once more, Yu-wan's face exuded murderous intent with a terribly low voice, causing the silver armor to frown with a troubled expression. And for the first time since traveling with Yu-wan, Kapros liked his attitude.
This guy, he's not bad, huh?
But that silver armor guy was also truly impressive beyond expectations. The fact that he didn't yield at all while crossing swords with Yu-wan, who could use intermediate Sword Mastery and aura, was proof that he was one of the top-tier skilled players in THE MIST.
"Hey! You in the back! Please tell them I didn't do anything!"
Feeling that this wouldn't do, he shouted at Kapros.
"It's not that you didn't do anything, but stop for now."
As Kapros spoke, Yu-wan immediately detached his sword and smoothly twirled it halfway before sheathing it.
"What did he do?"
"I got caught in a weird event quest, and this person just snatched it away. It's not a big deal. Isn't that right?"
