Vol 1 Chapter 52
Among the seven men who approached somberly as if walking over death, the one with the most regretful expression was Lord Superior, who now wore a sword on his left side. His red hair, which covered his neck and seemed to flutter down his back like a tail, scattered beautifully like sparks. Kapros noticed the brooch he had brought hanging on his chest. It looked almost the same as it did now, but perhaps because it was on its original owner, it suited him very well.
As they appeared, the march of the monsters stopped, and a temporary silence fell over the battlefield. The distant demon dragon slowly lowered its body, and the monsters parted like the sea, from which a man wearing a helmet walked out slowly and deliberately.
"Are you the representatives of the human side?"
As he spoke arrogantly, Lord Superior nodded gravely.
"We are. I assume you're the demon god's knight who rides the rumored demon dragon. Although we're called representatives, all that could be called countries have already been destroyed, so we're just those with courage who stepped forward... but yes, we are the representatives."
"The demon god's knight... That sounds nice. You already know well what our god desires, don't you? Stop the useless resistance of the ignorant masses and quietly submit. If you bow down, we'll at least spare your lives."
At those fierce eyes, a loud shout erupted from behind.
"You expect us to accept such words!"
"Calm down. Lord Superior is our representative now!"
Even Lord Superior seemed unable to completely suppress his anger, his clenched fist trembling. Given the emotional personality Kapros had seen in his younger self earlier, it was a miracle he was holding back now.
At that moment, the Dark Knight standing right behind him gently grasped his shoulder. Lord Superior barely regained his composure and stood straight. Then the knight of the demon god stared intently at that hand.
"We want you to withdraw. We cannot accept such humiliating words."
"...Is that so? Well, there is another way."
"What is it?"
"You. If we strip you, with a face that could make even elves cry, and offer you on the altar, our god might overlook this, even though you're an enemy. Our god treats everyone equally. It's quite an enticing face, isn't it?"
At that moment, the shouts from behind spread to everyone.
"We'd rather fight to the death!"
"How could they say such things..."
Lord Superior, pale with anger, moved his lips before biting them hard. As if on cue, a man in sacred white armor jumped out from behind.
"I don't want to hear any more words that defile the name of God. Stop this conversation that's not a conversation and leave immediately!"
The helmeted man burst into cold laughter.
"The only god who has descended to this land is our god. There are no other gods. Then let's consider the negotiations broken. But you, Lord Superior, should think carefully about the second proposal before the human race disappears completely from this land. Let's meet on the battlefield later."
As he turned, swirling his cape, the demon dragon responded with a long cry.
After the helmeted man left, the atmosphere sank back into darkness and gloom.
"...Don't think unnecessary thoughts."
The Dark Knight whispered quietly, but Lord Superior didn't seem to be listening. As he gripped the brooch on his chest until his hand turned white, Kapros flew up from that ruined battlefield and once again encountered a world flashing white in the sky.
"...Phew."
Kapros was standing in front of the altar, exactly as he had been at the start. However, strangely, everything around was blurry, and only his body was clearly visible. Perhaps because he had experienced so much as if he had seen and heard it directly, a sigh escaped his lips involuntarily.
Ding!
- The Tracking the Brooch quest has been completed.
- A linked quest, the Inheritor of Superior's Memories quest, has begun.
A notification sound was heard as the guide window popped up.
Again... a linked quest?
The content of this quest seemed to be related to the overall story of the Mist Continent. Suddenly, Kapros thought that what he had received might not just be a quest about a genius mage.
"..."
With so many amazing things suddenly pouring out, he was at a loss for words. It connected with users he hadn't even seen, and even created an antagonistic relationship with one of them?
Nevertheless, his interest was definitely piqued.
This is really getting more and more interesting, isn't it? Moreover, the part about hints to obtain Superior's magic and swordsmanship was the greatest temptation for Kapros right now.
He pressed accept without hesitation. As he did so, the surrounding scenery became completely clear, and Yu-wan and Kran, who had been at the bottom of the altar, ran towards him.
"Kap!"
Kapros exhaled and looked at the two.
"The moment you went up, we saw something like a strange VT video."
Kran said.
"And then a quest was generated. What's this about?"
Kapros quickly turned to Yu-wan.
"...Same for me."
...Perhaps that light had affected all party members connected to him? Or maybe they had conditions that linked to his quest.
"What did you see?"
When Kapros asked Kran first, he answered with a slightly dazed expression.
"Ah, actually, when I changed jobs, I heard the 'Legend of the Ancient Holy Knight' that's commonly told to knights aiming to become paladins. But no matter how I looked at it, a guy exactly like that holy knight appeared, and when the video ended..."
Ding!
"Huh?"
Kran, who had been floundering in the vivid video until just now, paused at the guide window that appeared in front of him as the white light flashed.
- The Inheritor of the Shine Knight's Pride quest has begun.
"What... what is this...?"
And Kran said he had pressed the accept button out of curiosity and waited for Kapros.
"But that pitch-black swordsman was standing there blankly first."
"Then what about Yu-wan?"
As Kapros turned to Yu-wan, roughly grasping the situation, Yu-wan was looking this way with a serious expression before looking down at his waist and speaking.
"...This sword."
