Vol 2 Chapter 34

The crumbling remains of the Lord Skeleton. The shining earring found within. Kapros slowly recalled his memories and opened his mouth.

"I got it from the Lord Skeleton, which was supposed to be the original boss monster of that cave."

"Then what about the one that shouldn't have appeared?"

The Lord Ghoul, which shouldn't have been there originally, was defeated by Yu-wan last. And Kapros, in a state of near-death exhaustion, had seen Yu-wan pick up something from inside that corpse.

"Something did come out, but Yu-wan..."

"Then that was an item that 'couldn't have come out', shouldn't have been there. And your friend got it."

Kapros nodded very slightly with a confused feeling. Kion-hyung was right. Thinking about it, that was an item that couldn't have, shouldn't have, and wasn't supposed to come out there.

Kapros carefully went over the entire party event again, looking for anything else unusual besides the boss monster incident.

At that time, when he was wary of someone he had just met, Kapros had thought Yu-wan was suspicious for quietly following along and then suddenly stepping forward in crisis situations. Now he thought of Yu-wan as someone serious enough to trust, but back then, he really disliked Yu-wan's bluntness. Wasn't that why he started the battle of pride when Yu-wan asked to see his magic? But even when Kapros openly treated him as suspicious, Yu-wan had never denied or made excuses.

No, thinking like this would make anyone seem suspicious.

Right. Kapros had just accepted everything as it was because he didn't know much about the game then, so maybe Yu-wan had done the same. Yu-wan had never talked about it since then. If a similar situation were to occur now if Kapros went to a dungeon with him again, he would unconditionally trust Yu-wan and hunt together. After thinking that far, Kapros shook his head vigorously and looked straight at Kion-hyung.

"Certainly... thinking about it again, it was an incomprehensible event, but Yu-wan is someone I can trust."

Yu-wan was his friend and companion. But listening to Kion-hyung's words now, it sounded as if that strange situation was somehow related to Yu-wan.

As Kapros spoke lowly, feeling anxious, Kion-hyung also nodded. From his frowning face, Kapros could tell that Kion-hyung didn't like saying these things either.

"I didn't mean to imply that it's necessarily related to that guy. I just said what I thought was strange. ...But Kar."

Kion-hyung looked into Kapros's eyes with a somber gaze.

"Before I received the Holy Knight quest, when I was wandering around to perform the connected temple quest..."

Seeing that Kapros was listening silently, Kion-hyung slowly began to continue his story.

"I happened to learn that there was a clue to the quest in a dungeon in some city. That dungeon was just an ordinary, common dungeon that other users could use freely. So I went to the end of that dungeon alone, using a time when people didn't usually go in. Then, the wall pattern in that dungeon, which seemed like nothing, reacted with the quest item I had and spat out the item I needed to obtain. This was also a case of obtaining an item that normally couldn't be obtained in that dungeon."

Kion-hyung, who had spoken briefly, expressed his final doubt with a hardened expression.

"Could it be that this Yu-wan guy also had a quest that could be linked to that situation in advance? You also received a linked quest and came to the Superior quest, right?"

Kapros denied it.

"That's not it. Yu-wan and Kran got their quests when I obtained the Superior quest, reacting to that light. When I first met Yu-wan before that, I had nothing to do with such quests."

After answering quickly, Kapros spoke with force in his voice.

"At least until now, there hasn't been any problem. Those guys are my friends. Even if there was some problem I didn't know about, isn't it fine if everything's been okay so far?"

"Kar."

Kion-hyung asked with a serious face.

"Do you trust those guys that much?"

It could have been an offensive question in some ways, but Kion-hyung's tone was asking if Kapros really trusted Yu-wan and Kran. Kapros nodded without hesitation.

"I do."

"Sigh... I don't know. I can't say anything. But..."

Kion-hyung finally met Kapros's gaze calmly.

"I think you shouldn't completely lose your former coolheadedness, no matter how good a friend you think someone is. Honestly, you weren't the type to open up to others so easily, were you? You need to know that you should be careful about relationships in the VT world too! ...I said that, but since it's mixed with a bit of my jealousy for not being trusted by you to that extent, you probably won't believe it, right?"

Kion-hyung smiled, slightly wrinkling his nose with that playful expression.

"Kar. What do you think of me?"

For a moment, Kapros stared at Kion-hyung, not understanding the intention behind those words. Kion-hyung gazed at him with an intensity that could be felt.

"Hyung."

After a long while, Kapros opened his mouth, feeling slightly embarrassed.

"Keck. Just 'hyung', that's all? There's so much more, like awesome hyung, handsome hyung, et cetera!"

Kion-hyung, who was whining with an almost tearful face, still didn't lose his smile as he patted Kapros's head. Although they were similar in height, it felt strange that Kion-hyung seemed much more like an adult than Kapros.

"Yes, if you think of me as your hyung like that, I'll always be your hyung."

Kion-hyung spoke, lowering his voice as if he was a bit embarrassed too. Kapros smiled, turning his gaze elsewhere, feeling the same way.

"But even if you think of someone as a friend, they might not feel the same."

"What do you mean?"

Kapros asked back, feeling a chill down his spine. Kion-hyung chuckled as he stood up and lightly poked Kapros's forehead with his index finger.

"Half experience, half joke, you brat. Looking at you earlier, your mood seemed quite ambiguous, so it was a bit strange. Now, let's go out. A lot of time has really passed."
