Vol 2 Chapter 64
As Kapros raised his hand to point behind them, Yu-wan's eyes widened as he stared in that direction. The small dot Kapros had discovered earlier was just entering the bridge. Yu-wan let out a low groan at the now clearly visible identity of the figure.
"He came quickly."
The black cloak draped over his shoulders fluttered at tremendous speed, expressing Caesar's growing presence as he steadily approached. The enormous black aura surrounding him made them realize that they could no longer deal with him using the playful methods they had used until now. Though he wasn't sure exactly, Kapros was reminded of Kion-hyung and Palton's story of fleeing from him, feeling the overwhelming pressure as if he had fully unleashed his hidden power. His fist clenched involuntarily.
As that figure and face grew closer, becoming almost visible, a strange whirlpool began to spin anxiously in Kapros's chest.
"Seems he took quite a beating too."
However, Yu-wan's comment upon seeing this was just that and nothing more. Kapros frowned at his nonchalant tone, and Yu-wan smiled as if amused. It was a smile that seemed to say, "Why are you acting like this over nothing?" Seeing that, Kapros suddenly felt vivid reason awakening within his anxious self.
What's wrong, Kapros? Why are you getting anxious?
...Are you scared or something?
'That can't be!'
Blood rushed to his face from the shame and anger at himself for losing his composure.
"I lost my composure for a moment. Sorry."
As Kapros covered his face with one hand and answered, he heard Yu-wan laugh briefly. Soon, he felt a hand lightly patting his back.
"...It's okay."
Kapros saw Yu-wan's face, smiling with his serious blue eyes slightly crinkled, with the same look as the night before the guild war. Along with that, Yu-wan's lips that had touched his... Damn it. What was he thinking about in a situation like this?
While Kapros was unintentionally recalling that day's events, Yu-wan, who had been watching him, suddenly erased his smile and shifted his gaze forward.
"He'll be here soon. Go now."
"Huh?"
As Kapros questioned, Yu-wan grabbed his shoulder and pushed him back.
"Whoa..."
For a moment, Kapros almost lost his balance and fell, but he managed to stand, feeling like he had aged ten years. Yu-wan pointed towards where Kran had run.
"I'll hold Caesar back, you go help."
What? The moment Kapros decoded the meaning of those words in his head, he was so dumbfounded he couldn't even laugh.
"What are you talking about?"
Kapros wondered if he had heard wrong, but Yu-wan's eyes were as serious and straight as usual. Only after staring into those eyes for a long time did Kapros coldly realize that Yu-wan really intended to hold Caesar back alone.
"Don't say such nonsense. We should do it together."
"It makes sense."
"What...!"
Just as Kapros was about to get angry, a hand suddenly reached out and pulled him by the waist. It took a moment for him to realize that he had bumped into Yu-wan's chest and was now in his embrace.
"..."
Again... Again. Kapros was once again shocked into silence by the realization that he had been caught off guard.
"...With this once, I can hold Caesar back as long as it takes for you to return. It's fine even if that idiot has to redo his quest three times."
Yu-wan, who rarely spoke in such a pleasant voice, whispered softly and gently detached the stiffly frozen Kapros. That confident gaze implied that he should stop being stubborn. Only then did Kapros come to his senses a little. Did he know too?
"I know you don't have much mana left. So helping means coming back as quickly as possible."
"But!"
This is not a joke, you could really die! Besides, you're not the only one who's tired...
Kapros's mouth, about to say those words, fell silent on its own at Yu-wan's calm gaze. A blue aura, even longer than the sword tip he had seen for the second time, formed on the sword Yu-wan slowly drew.
"It's okay."
Yu-wan quietly opened his mouth.
"I won't do anything that stupid. And this place doesn't seem to be just for that idiot, so..."
At that moment, Caesar's figure, now fully visible and approaching like a storm, entered Kapros's view.
Yu-wan had his back turned to him.
"I don't think anything too bad will happen. That idiot... no, Kran should be able to protect you. I'll follow soon, so hurry and go."
Yu-wan properly called Kran by his name for the first time. His tone was neither as blunt nor as cold as when they first met. Now, Yu-wan was really speaking to Kapros naturally, and the same was true for Kapros.
"My destination is always you. Don't... doubt that."
The extremely low and slow voice penetrated Kapros's ears to the point of erasing basic questions like why he was saying such things. Then, without looking back at the dazed Kapros, Yu-wan turned around at lightning speed and launched himself. Caesar had already reached close proximity.
Boom!
Soon, an intense roar that was hard to believe was the sound of swords clashing rang out, and the bridge shook. Snapping back to his senses at that precariousness, Kapros, despite his bewilderment and for reasons he couldn't understand, placed one hand on his numb chest and chanted a spell.
"Fly!"
Once they had clashed, he had no choice but to do as Yu-wan said. Kapros's mana was now really so low that even if he went with Yu-wan, he couldn't cast even one decent attack spell. So the best course of action was to help Kran complete his quest as quickly as possible and then go back to help Yu-wan.
Yu-wan. Surely you wouldn't lose pathetically after making a fool of me twice.
'...Hang in there somehow until I return.'
With that single purpose in mind, Kapros flew at full speed, grasping the edge of his hood.
The place where he finally set foot, his body pressed by air pressure as he flew, was the land on the other side of the valley they had longed for so much. It was Kran's destination. Kapros quickly looked around, but Kran was nowhere to be seen. He ran frantically to find Kran. While wandering among the similar-looking white rock walls, suddenly a hidden open space appeared abruptly between the cracks.
In front of the open space surrounded by rocks like a folding screen, there were stairs and a huge rock. Kran was standing there, stomping his feet with a very troubled expression.
