Vol 3 Chapter 26
Whoosh!
The moment the foot touched the ground, a bright blue light starting from the tip of the foot spread in a parabolic arc, illuminating the entire area in front of him. However, the light wasn't bright enough to distinguish even the protagonist's clothing. After a while, when all the lights settled down to emit a soft glow, Kapros was able to see what had changed due to the screen panning upwards.
'That's...!'
He was so amazed that he unconsciously gasped silently. An incredible magic circle-like pattern was drawn with light across all the ground and walls filling the screen. It was the most spectacular sight created by interconnected geometric shapes. As he watched in awe, the shadow of the person standing at the edge of the screen walked to the center of the magic circle, still dragging his steps with some difficulty. When he barely stepped on the ground at the center of the magic circle, where an empty circle was drawn, a second light burst forth brightly.
Flash!
A red light erupted from the small circle in the center for a moment, enveloping the shadow, and then a sword with a dark sheen emerged from within the light. As soon as the sword was fully drawn and stood in mid-air, the light went out, and the screen focused on the sword rather than the person, once again concealing the protagonist.
'Shouldn't I at least know who the protagonist of this video is? How annoying.'
As Kapros was watching the screen with a frown, the close-up sword suddenly trembled and began to speak.
[ Ah... I slept well. ]
[ .... ]
[ Hey. I know you feel like death, but stand up straight. Goodness. I can't even see your face. ]
[ .... ]
The sword spoke? ...Like the surprised Kapros, it seemed the sword's owner couldn't hear the sound either, as at that moment, a hearty laugh came from the sword.
[ Puhahaha. What did I say? I'm the sword you've been wielding and fighting with all this time. I just woke up when it was time to wake up. It's the historic day when I, the great Bargardt, have finally awakened for the tenth time. ]
Every time the sword spoke, a red light flickered and surged according to the intensity of the voice.
The sword's voice was surprisingly that of a young man with a pleasant tone.
[ Ah, I talked too much. Come on, pull yourself together. Now you just need to pick me up and thrust me into the center of this circle. I'm like the key that starts the ritual of this place, you see. Now... ]
As the sword slowly descended towards the shadow, the shadow hesitated for a moment, holding the sword with both hands, and then as the background music intensified, he slowly raised it and thrust it into the ground without hesitation.
Boom!
Immediately, something like a vortex of air currents began to swirl around him, and finally, the blue lights of the magic circle mixed in, creating a fantastic and chaotic scene. The shadow standing in the middle of it all seemed fine for a moment, like the eye of a storm, but that didn't last long.
Whoosh!
In an instant, the shadow man's body rose into the air as if pulled by something, showing a slightly surprised expression, but soon his body was held as if caught by something, his arms raised in a crucified position. Now more visible in the light and clearly a man, he looked around and tried to pull his arms, but they didn't seem to budge.
As soon as that position was fixed, a booming voice echoed through the cave as if it would shatter it.
[[ You, descendant of the great and foolish executioners. ]]
The background music, which had been building up chaotically, stopped abruptly when that voice spoke. The swirling vortex also ceased in an instant, and the cave was soon enveloped in silence.
[[ It's been 500 years since your predecessor. ]]
[[ To crawl down here alive. Are you not afraid of what might happen? ]]
[[ .... ]]
The voice, which had gone quiet for a moment as if waiting for an answer, soon spoke again.
[[ This is the darkest underground of the old capital. I am the great will to make you a true executioner. So, to be precise, ]]
The voice, which had paused for a moment, soon finished its last words with an ear-splitting boom.
[[ Since you've come here of your own accord, I'm saying I'll make you the tenth demon executioner, the Dark Knight. ]]
What... What did it say? Dark Knight...?!
For a moment, Kapros was so surprised that he unconsciously leaned forward on the sofa, his eyes wide open, staring intently at the screen, but the voice continued to say what it had to say regardless.
[[ Originally, only those who endured this ritual among numerous candidates survived to become executioners. But too much time has passed, and now even the name of the country and the existence of executioners have been forgotten, and no candidate has appeared for 500 years. However, the 9th executioner had already informed me of this situation. He said that if luck would have it, the 10th might appear after a very long time. And for that 10th, you, he gave me what you should have prepared yourself and left. ]]
Every time the voice spoke, the surrounding light flickered along with it.
[[ Do you know? The essential preparation for the ritual to become an executioner is the blood of the strongest demon you've caught so far. Only when you go through the ritual with that demon's blood and survive it do you truly become an executioner. But... Haha. You're a really lucky one. Your sacrifice has been prepared 500 years in advance like this, and there are no candidates to be your rivals. ]]
Kapros's head felt like it was about to overload with the information pouring out like a machine gun. The Dark Knight was a demon executioner? If it was the Dark Knight before the current quest performer, it would be that Dark Knight who was Superior's friend...
[[ If you just accept it... I can promise. The power given to you will be unimaginably great. Of course, it will come with an equal amount of pain. I value the opinion of the person involved, so I'll ask only once. What do you think? Do you agree to this branding? ]]
[ .... ]
After a long silence, the man, with only his chin in close-up, slowly nodded. Kapros stared intently, wondering if he could confirm whether this was the guy he knew, but the screen, as if deliberate, didn't even properly show his hair at such a subtle angle.
