Chapter 70: Leaving Detention
On the central street of Zha'nan District, Tang Baiqing bent down to get into Xu Hu's car: "What's wrong?"
"Let me show you something," Xu Hu took out his phone, pulled up a photo, and handed it to Tang Baiqing: "Does this look familiar?"
Tang Baiqing squinted at the photo on the phone: "Isn't this...?!"
"Yes," Xu Hu interrupted with a nod: "Found outside the district."
Tang Baiqing was stunned: "So you mean?"
"This matter is too frustrating," Xu Hu said with a dark face. "We can't lose the goods, lose money, and end up taking the blame ourselves."
"I'll go," Tang Baiqing had already understood Xu Hu's meaning and said almost without any extra thought: "Damn it, leave this to me. I'll get the maritime police to do it."
"For a case outside the district, can the maritime police approve it?" Xu Hu asked in return.
Tang Baiqing had been in a bad mood lately and tended to be impulsive when thinking about problems. With Xu Hu's reminder, he also realized: "Oh right, cases involving areas outside the district are more troublesome. Where was this goods found?"
"In the ungoverned area to the south. Your unit would have difficulty approving this kind of case. If anything goes wrong, the higher-ups won't want to take the blame," Xu Hu pondered for a while: "Besides, I'm not planning to notify the officials."
"Why?"
"Think about it. Wang Daolin is also involved in this case, and his relationship with Yu Mingyuan is a bit unclear now. If we go in openly, information could easily leak," Xu Hu thought very cautiously. "We'd better do it ourselves and notify the higher-ups after we get results."
Tang Baiqing gritted his teeth: "Who are you planning to send?"
"Let Little Two lead the people," Xu Hu replied.
"I'll go with him," Tang Baiqing said with a gloomy look. "Damn it, if we're going to do this, let's not mess with small fry. Let's go straight for the Yu family."
"That works too," Xu Hu paused. "Little Two thinks less when acting. With you going with him, I'll be more at ease. Old Mo's people have come these past couple of days, I need to make arrangements, and with New Year approaching, I need to visit houses and maintain relationships. There won't be few matters to handle."
"No problem, I'll go with Little Two."
"It might take a few days. Don't you need to spend New Year at home?" Xu Hu asked.
"I don't want to stay at home for even a minute right now," Tang Baiqing sighed. "I can't stand my father's gaze."
"Alright then, that's settled!" Xu Hu replied, holding his phone. "I'll send you the information."
......
In the Police Bureau's Criminal Case Detention Center, Daxiong, who had been beaten by more than ten people, had been taken to the medical room.
The duty officer frowned and asked the prison doctor: "Is he alright?"
"It's quite serious," the doctor bent down and pressed Daxiong's nose: "Does it hurt?"
"Hurts...!" Daxiong lay on the bed, his whole body convulsing with pain. He had just been beaten by more than ten people in the cell and was seriously injured, with a bleeding nose, bloodshot eyes, and unbearable pain in his left ribs.
The doctor pulled back Daxiong's right eyelid and shined a medical flashlight: "Is the light perception clear? Do you feel any stabbing pain?"
"White... light... can't see clearly." Daxiong's eyes were severely bloodshot, with tears and faint bloody water flowing from the corners.
The doctor put away the flashlight and turned to look at the duty officer, saying: "He needs to go to the hospital, I can't handle this."
The prison doctor's skill level and available equipment were limited to treating colds and occasionally dispensing anti-inflammatory medicine. They simply couldn't handle slightly more serious external injuries.
"He has to go to the hospital?" the duty officer asked irritably.
"Yes, he needs to go. I can't determine what's wrong with his eyeball here. If he goes blind, who's going to take the blame?" the doctor replied honestly.
"Damn it!" The duty officer cursed and then looked up to reply: "Then write me a note, I'll go get the warden's signature."
"Alright," the doctor nodded.
The duty officer walked out of the prison clinic and looked up to see a row of suspects squatting outside - these were the ones who had just beaten Daxiong.
"Who struck first?!" the duty officer demanded.
"Sir, this kid fell asleep on duty and hit us first," the cell's big brother replied weakly.
The duty officer walked to the big brother's side, steadily cupped his chin with his left hand, aimed with his right, and delivered a round slap.
"Slap!"
With a crisp sound, the cell's big brother collapsed sitting on the ground.
"During New Year's, you're trying to cause me trouble?! Later you'll get sixty jin of chains hung on you until the fifteenth of the first month!" The duty officer cursed at the big brother before turning to leave.
In the eyes of other suspects in detention, Daxiong wasn't even considered human, but in the eyes of the officers who held power, anyone wearing suspect's clothing was just an animal awaiting trial.
......
Around 3 PM, after the duty officer completed the release procedures and got approval from the warden, he finally took Daxiong out of detention and headed to the Police Bureau Hospital.
Actually, what these detention officers hated most was having to take suspects out to the hospital, because it was a thankless and very troublesome task.
First, the suspect needed close supervision, and the officer had to carry a gun; second, if the suspect needed hospitalization, someone would have to stay to watch him to prevent escape. This back and forth meant the officer might not be able to go home for days, wasting their private time for nothing.
Of course, if the suspect was particularly wealthy or powerful, that would be different, because sensible suspects wouldn't let these officers run around for nothing. However, Daxiong obviously didn't have such capital, so the officer was very irritated when taking him out.
With just two days until New Year, who the hell wanted to come out and deal with this?
In the Criminal Case Detention Center, there were relevant regulations for taking suspects out. For ordinary suspects, having three or four people following was usually enough, because suspects wore leg irons and could hardly move. But for those who might be sentenced to life imprisonment, death sentence with reprieve, or death penalty, at least eight people had to follow, and there had to be a special vehicle from the Police Bureau Hospital, and the duty warden also had to notify the district police unit.
Daxiong was obviously not a serious offender. His crime was very clear and would at most get him less than ten years, so only four people were escorting him this time, including the duty officer in charge of him.
Along the way, the four officers were all grumbling as they talked, while Daxiong sat in the back seat with his head down, not daring to speak. Because he could tell these people were in a bad mood, and if he said anything wrong, he might face another beating.
Around 5 PM, Daxiong was brought to the Police Bureau Hospital, but as soon as they entered the lobby, they saw many burn victims being wheeled upstairs.
There were many people, and many police officers on the scene.
"Don't move!" the duty officer ordered Daxiong, then turned to his colleague to say: "Let me ask what's going on."
......
At the Yu family home.
Yu Mingyuan sat under red lanterns and dialed Su Tianyu's number: "Little Six, are you free? Come over to my place for a bit."
"Sure, I'll be there in a while," Su Tianyu immediately replied.
