Vol 5 Chapter 49

He was currently using two spells simultaneously as he moved forward, but fortunately, it didn't seem to be too much of a strain. What would happen if he added one more?

'Maybe I should try it once.'

Before using that spell, Kapros decided to ask Superior for his opinion first.

"I'm currently using Detect Magic to scan for enemies through the magic caught in my field of vision, but what would happen if I used another spell that affects vision on top of this?"

[ Overlapping spells? If your ability can handle it, it should work effectively enough. ]

"And if my ability can't handle it?"

[ Then you'll just lose mana, and your mind will be exhausted. ]

"Sounds fine. Then I'll give it a try."

[ But what are you... ]

After imagining the third spell he would use together in his mind, Kapros drew a circle with his right arm and pushed his hand through it. The brilliant light that came out as it passed through the magic circle of the spell momentarily illuminated the surroundings even brighter than the Fireballs.

"Aerial Servant!"

Swoosh!

The third spell revealed itself silently.

[ Aerial Servant? You didn't say it was a 6th circle spell! ]

Superior's rarely surprised voice loudly pounded in Kapros's head, but he couldn't stop the spell that had already begun to activate.

As his vision slowly and forcibly began to twist and split into two, a headache stronger than he had anticipated washed over him. The Fireballs visible in front of him flickered and swayed mercilessly like candles in the wind, and the Detect Magic he had cast to sense invisible magical energies seemed to be causing a reaction, as blue light flashed before his eyes.

'Damn... It's resisting quite a bit.'

[ Stop it right now! ]

His right hand, which was inside the circle, tried to pull back on its own following Superior's will. When Kapros grabbed it firmly with his left hand to stop it, his right arm writhed and squirmed.

[ What you're trying to do now is too reckless. With your current skill level, it's not something you should attempt... ]

"Stop being so noisy!"

He needed to concentrate, but the voice nagging in his head continued to be heard even if he covered his ears. Although he had grabbed his right wrist to stop it, it was shaking so violently that he couldn't help but lose focus. To quiet Superior, who kept making a fuss, Kapros tensed his stomach and shouted angrily, which made his right arm stop moving as if startled.

He should have done that earlier; he had almost lost his concentration unnecessarily and gotten into real trouble.

'I'll deal with you later, Superior. Let me finish this first.'

Taking advantage of this moment, Kapros continued imaging to control his vision, which was splitting into two, then overlapping into one, and swaying dizzily.

What was the most ideal form in a situation where he had to use three spells together? At first, he had thought of using Fireball, Detect Magic, and Aerial Servant all at the same time, but that seemed too distracting and difficult.

Then first... it would be okay to get rid of the Fireballs, which were only distracting him unnecessarily apart from lighting the way ahead, right? In his dizzy mind, he slowly erased the images of the three Fireballs. As he did so, he saw the Fireballs flickering in front of him disappear in the same way.

'It worked...'

Perhaps thanks to his careful attempt, problems like his headache getting worse didn't occur. Now, the remaining issue was how to link Detect Magic and Aerial Servant.

Detect Magic, which illuminated his vision in blue and detected magical energies, and Aerial Servant, which divided his vision in two and shared the view of a freely moving wind eye. How could he use these two together without strain...

Although he was actually in quite a hurry, not having much time, and was racking his brain in this urgent situation, his mind was unexpectedly excited and in a state of pleasant tension. He really enjoyed this kind of situation where his instincts warned him that he might be in danger by the slimmest of margins.

The more difficult the challenge, the greater the sense of achievement after solving it. The path of martial arts is based on physical training, but it ultimately coincides with the battle against oneself. If you can't overcome yourself, there's no way to progress further.

Who wouldn't want to take a break from such arduous training at least once? But knowing that the joy that comes after overcoming all the anguish is greater, Kapros unhesitatingly challenged himself and won.

Now, magic was the object of such a challenge for him.

'How about this time?'

Could he win?

If sparks could fly from human eyes, this would be such a moment. Even in the midst of the pounding headache, Kapros couldn't stop the corners of his mouth from rising, and he slowly stuck out his tongue to lightly lick his lips.

'Alright.'

Buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz!

Due to the spell that had stopped midway without finding its bearings, he felt a ringing in his ears and his magical power rapidly draining. It was the very phenomenon that had given him a lot of trouble before learning Dispel, where magic power was rapidly consumed as the spell wasn't properly cast and remained suspended for a long time.

The magical currents crackling like electricity made his robe flaps flutter wildly as his vision flashed yellow and blue. While pressing down his hair that had escaped from his lowered hood and was flying up wildly, he slowly closed his eyes. Then, as the resistance of Detect Magic visible in front of him and his own vision disappeared, only the view of Aerial Servant flickering appeared and disappeared like sparks popping in the darkness. Seeing this, a good idea suddenly came to him.

'Yes, how about trying it that way.'

The spell Detect Magic could be easily explained as putting on blue glasses that allow one to see creatures hidden by magical power, extending that power to wherever his gaze reached. But when he also used Aerial Servant, it was like having only one pair of glasses but suddenly having two pairs of eyes to look through, so it was bound to cause resistance.

Then what should he do? There was one way. First, cancel Detect Magic.
