Chapter 31

His colleagues, who had been blankly watching his back as he quickly left the bar, only began to throw comments one by one after Dane had completely disappeared.

"That guy, come to think of it, I've never seen him date a girlfriend."

"Well, extreme Alpha guys are known to be like that, but isn't Dane actually worse? He's promiscuous without any reason."

"He probably doesn't want to take responsibility."

"That's the same thing, idiot."

"Is that how the conversation goes?"

Ezra tilted his head among them as they exchanged disjointed remarks.

"Why doesn't Dane want to date? Even though he has sex."

Various comments followed.

"Maybe he got badly burned before?"

"Are you saying Dane experienced heartbreak? By whom?"

"Who knows, that's just speculation."

Naturally, the conversation drifted without reaching a conclusion. The atmosphere was heated, and by the time they left the bar, everyone was staggering drunk.

Damn it, goddamn it.

Greyson sat leaning against the fire truck, glaring at the empty air with a grim face. It had already been a month since he became a firefighter. During that time, he had slept with every woman in the fire station. He had even had relations with an employee of a company where he had gone to provide fire safety education, but it had all been in vain. None of them had developed a butterfly-shaped mark on their pelvis.

What's going on?

Greyson irritably rubbed his face with both hands. Could I have been wrong? Was it just a regular fainting, not because of pheromones? Well, when they say it's hard to meet one even once in a lifetime, does it make sense to be affected by an extreme Omega twice suddenly? If that were true, it would definitely be someone around me, but it doesn't make sense that I can't find them like this.

He couldn't even understand why they had caused a pheromone shock to him in the first place.

Until now, he hadn't thought deeply about that part because he was excited by the belief that he had found his destiny, but now that it had come to this, regret and reflection followed.

Why? And twice at that?

If he couldn't find an answer to this, he couldn't ignore the conclusion that he had been on the wrong track from the beginning. To think he had been fooled by that quack fortune teller's words and come up empty-handed again.

Until now, whenever it was confirmed that he had failed to find his destiny, he had immediately run away, but this time he couldn't. Recalling his promise to Ashley, a groan escaped from deep in his throat. Because of one mistake, he was stuck wasting a year. Could there be a worse situation than this?

"Damn it."

Just as he spat out another curse like a groan, he flinched at the familiar sound of music. He took out his mobile phone from his pocket and checked the caller. Though Greyson frowned deeply as soon as he recognized who it was, he didn't hang up.

"Hey, Stacy. What's up? You're actually calling."

As he greeted his twin sibling, born five minutes apart, in a smooth voice, the other side answered.

– I heard you got a job at a fire station. How's it going? Is it going well? Any special events?

Having heard from Daddy early on that Greyson had gotten a job at a fire station, Stacy must have waited a month to ask this question. She must have calculated that this much time would be needed for an exciting incident to occur. At her unusually excited voice, as if in anticipation, Greyson answered lightly.

"No, unfortunately nothing has happened. Everyone says it's the first time it's been this peaceful, without even minor forest fires."

Of course, Stacy wasn't simply curious about whether there had been fires or not, but she should have understood what he meant. Stacy grumbled as if genuinely disappointed.

- Oh, that's a shame. How boring.

To Greyson, who showed no reaction, she soon changed her tone and asked.

– So what are you going to do? Have you already found your next partner?

Stacy's voice brightened as if she had regained interest. Of course, what she wanted was one thing. She wanted to see Greyson fail again and be disappointed. She was also hoping to see the abandoned partner cause a scene, but Greyson's answer was different from what she wished.

"No, not yet."

– You're not giving up, are you?

At her voice full of suspicion, Greyson answered slowly.

"Of course not, absolutely not."

After repeating Stacy's words, he added nonchalantly.

"I don't give up. I'll find them no matter how long it takes."

A faint smile appeared on Greyson's lips.

"My one and only love in the world."

– I hope you meet them soon, and tell me first.

Someone else might have taken it as warm encouragement and interest in their sibling's future. But the other person was Stacy. Though he knew her intentions all too well – simply eagerly waiting for the situation where her twin failed again and chaos ensued – Greyson answered calmly.

"Of course, you're my other half."

In fact, since they were fraternal twins, the term "other half" wasn't accurate. But he shamelessly spouted words he didn't mean, and Stacy, though knowing this, responded with a strange laugh.

– I love you, Greyson.

"I love you, Stacy."

Though they both said words they didn't mean and ended the call, their true feelings were completely different. Soon there was a click sound. After confirming the call had ended, Greyson muttered with a hardened, expressionless face.

"What a psycho."

Though he cursed, his mood didn't improve at all. He roughly messed up his hair before sighing.

What should I do now?

He had to stay stuck here for a year without being able to move. There must be a way out of this predicament. Something, something.

"Should I set fire to the fire station?"

Just as he muttered seriously, there was a clatter, a loud noise, and when he turned his head, Ezra was looking at him with a pale face. When their eyes met, he was startled and flustered before quickly picking up the can he had dropped and leaving as if fleeing. After staring at his retreating figure, Greyson turned his head back while muttering a short curse.

Thinking it wasn't a bad idea as he stroked his chin, Ezra, who was secretly watching him from behind the building, urgently ran to the fitness training room.

* * *

"That bastard, he's dangerous after all."

Ezra shouted as soon as he opened the door, having hurriedly returned to the fitness training room. His colleagues, who were building their bodies on various exercise equipment, looked at him in bewilderment at the sudden outburst. Ezra, with a pale face, pointed behind him and continued.

"Just now, I was getting a drink from the vending machine, and I saw Miller. Do you know what that bastard was muttering to himself? He said he's going to set fire to the fire station!"

"What?"

"Really? That crazy bastard, for real?"

Everyone got serious and left their equipment to face him. Ezra nodded with a pale complexion while looking around.

"I'm telling you, he was saying that with a serious face, like he was thinking about something. I was so shocked I couldn't even ask what he meant and just came here."

His colleagues looked at each other with bewildered faces. If it had been someone else saying they would set a fire, they could have dismissed it as something said in anger, but it was different with Greyson. That crazy bastard was more than capable of actually doing it.

"What's this all of a sudden?"

Someone asked, but no one could answer. Another guy nervously spat out while roughly running his fingers through his hair.

"Why would he suddenly set fire to the fire station, is he really crazy?"

"They say when pheromones build up, it does something to the head of extreme Alphas."

"He's slept with all the women here almost every day, and you're saying his pheromones have built up? If that's the case, shouldn't we just cut off his dick?"

They exchanged vicious words, highly agitated. What the hell was wrong with that bastard? Since then, no one at the fire station had touched Miller. Of course, they hadn't spoken to him either, but Greyson wouldn't care at all. In short, they had drawn a clear line between each other and ignored each other as if they existed in different worlds.

But what Greyson had just said was clearly a provocation that crossed the line. They couldn't overlook this. Daring to say he would set fire to a fire station that was supposed to prevent fires? No way!
