Chapter 89

The few people waiting in the waiting room watched them in surprise, not knowing what to do. Amidst all this, Dane tried to somehow grasp this unexpected situation, but it was naturally impossible. All he could do now was to clarify his position.

"I just came because Sabrina asked me to come with her. Who are you anyway?"

At Dane's rough reaction, the woman didn't back down and rolled her eyes.

"Me? I'm the sperm donor for the child this woman is carrying!"

"What?"

"What did you say?"

"Oh my!"

Including Dane, the onlookers also let out surprised exclamations from here and there. But Larien paid no attention and continued to shout.

"Yes, how dare you tell my woman what to do? Do you want to die? Huh?"

Dane looked at Sabrina with a bewildered face. As if to say, what on earth is going on?

Sabrina looked around helplessly. Seeing her like that, Dane couldn't help but sigh. As he looked up at the ceiling in disbelief, an unpleasant memory suddenly came to mind.

<I clearly warned you, don't create something you'll regret.>

Just as he frowned, Sabrina spoke.

"Larien, you're misunderstanding. This child is not yours."

At those words, Larien's attention immediately turned to her.

"Really? Are you sure it's not my child? Talk straight, Sabrina. If you tell the truth, I can forgive you anything."

At the gentle, coaxing tone, completely different from how she had spoken to Dane, everyone watching widened their eyes again. Moreover, the way she gently stroked Sabrina's cheek looked like someone deeply in love to anyone watching. Sabrina too, as if completely forgetting about her surroundings, looked up at Larien with a passionate gaze.

"I don't know, Larien. I'm sorry."

In the end, she confessed. With tears welling up in her eyes, Sabrina lowered her head and whispered.

"It might be my ex-boyfriend. I don't know."

"It could be my child!"

Larien claimed again. Though it was clear to anyone that she had been two-timing, it didn't seem to be a problem for her at all.

Was it three-timing?

Just as Dane suddenly recalled, Larien grabbed Sabrina's hand and said.

"Don't worry, Sabrina. Let's get married."

"Huh."

Dane stood there, looking at the two of them in disbelief.

Maybe it's time to go out now.

Greyson stopped whistling and got up from his seat. After deliberately taking his time to put away the equipment he had been maintaining, he naturally turned toward the chief's office. He was about to say he would be leaving for the day. Someone needs to clean up the mess that would surely be there. Someone who knows all the ins and outs of this situation, like Greyson Miller.

Just as he was moving his steps, humming a tune with his hands in his pockets.

Eeeeeng, eeeeeng.

At the loud siren sound, he unconsciously stopped moving. It seemed like there was a fire somewhere again. As expected, firefighters scattered here and there rushed out, competing to be first. Greyson, who was just watching them put on their fire suits and get into the car as if it were someone else's business, turned his body again. Just as he was about to take a step.

"Where's the location?"

"The Snow Flake residential area next to Lincoln Park!"

At the sound of men passing urgently behind Greyson exchanging words, he stopped again. He turned around and stood there for a moment without moving.

What did they say...?

"Let's go, ahhh!"

DeAndre, who had been the last to get into the car, screamed in surprise as he was shouting toward the driver's seat and trying to close the car door. Greyson was holding the door.

"Wh-what, you? What are you doing?"

To DeAndre, who stammered without realizing it in his confusion, Greyson asked with a serious face.

"Where did the fire break out?"

"The Snow Flake residential area, you know, that quiet neighborhood next to Lincoln Park."

Another guy answered instead of DeAndre. Greyson froze at the information, which was no different from what he had heard earlier.

No way, that can't be. There's plenty of possibility it's a different house.

It was a very reasonable assumption. Among all those houses, there's no way a fire would break out specifically in that guy's house. Besides, there's only one blind cat in that house. Right now, Dane would be at the hospital with that damn woman.

There's no reason for a fire to break out.

"Miller, what are you doing! If you're not coming, get out of the way!"

DeAndre shouted. But Greyson still couldn't move from where he stood. He should go to the hospital now. Clean up the situation, send Larien away with that woman, explain to Dane what happened, then he would realize he had done something unnecessary, and then he would know that my warning had been right...

The cat.

Greyson's mind turned cold.

...That ugly cat.

"Miller, I said move!"

"Greyson Miller!"

DeAndre and another voice shouted. Now he had to make a choice. There was no more time to hesitate. Of course, the direction of the choice was predetermined. Let go of the door, turn around, go to the chief's office and say he's leaving early...

"Wh-what?"

Before his thought could even finish, Greyson got onto the fire truck. The rest of the guys shouted in surprise, but he demonstratively closed the car door from the inside.

"Let's go!"

At Greyson's shout, Ezra, who was sitting in the driver's seat, hurriedly started the car, and while everyone watched in bewilderment, Greyson sat with his arms crossed and began shaking one leg with a serious face.

* * *

"Marry me!"

At Larien's declaration, a tense silence flowed through the waiting room. Thump-thump, with the situation more exciting than any drama they had seen recently, all the waiting people were focusing their attention, when Sabrina, who had opened her eyes wide, slowly opened her mouth.

"Um... really?"

To her, who asked as if she couldn't believe it, Larien smiled, furrowing her eyebrows.

"Of course, cute Sabrina. How could I abandon you?"

Larien, as if making a vow, held Sabrina's cheek and firmly kissed her on the lips. The face that separated with a "pah" sound was smiling brightly. Sabrina, looking up at such a Larien, blinked and carefully asked.

"Then... what about April?"

"What?"

Larien's smiling face froze. Sabrina pointed out a major issue.

"You're married to April. You need to divorce first."

"What? Marriage?"

"Oh my, an affair?"

"Two-timing, two-timing."

Whispers of surprise and shock continued from here and there. After a round of commotion, a hushed silence followed. Everyone waited tensely for Larien's answer. Even Dane. Larien, who had sighed "Oh," shook her head.

"That won't work, Sabrina. April is carrying my child."

"What? Then are you saying I should be your second wife?"

Sabrina immediately shouted. As whispers continued again, Larien scratched her cheek with her second finger and made a troubled expression.

"Um, well. To be precise, you'd be the ninth, Sabrina."

"Oh my, oh my!"

"Oh my goodness, God! What is this!"

"Ma'am, your turn for the examination..."

"Wait a moment, please wait! This is a really important moment!"

Amidst the pouring commotion, Sabrina contorted her face in shock.

"What? Is your religion polygamous?"

"Oh, that's not it, Sabrina."

Incredibly, Larien, who had shown her second finger waving side to side, spread her arms wide to the sides and solemnly declared.

"My religion is love."

What is this damn déjà vu?

Something unpleasant flashed through Dane's mind as he watched in disbelief. Soon, someone's face overlapped with her glamorous face. Ah! Could it be, ...no way? Just as Dane realized the reason for this ominous déjà vu, Sabrina screamed and lunged at Larien.

"You fraud, you dirty liar!"

"Sabrina, calm down. Think of the baby!"

"It's not your baby, it's not! I hate you, I hate you! Drop dead!"

"My cutie, telling such lies. You're really lovely. Hahaha!"

Among the people who were watching blankly at Sabrina hitting wildly and Larien taking the hits with a smile, someone suddenly shouted as if they had just come to their senses.

"Oh my, come to think of it, I think I've seen that person on the wanted list."

"What? Really?"

"I'm sure. I check the FBI wanted list every day. Just a moment, here. Look."

"Oh my, oh my, it's true!"

"What crime did she commit? Fraud? Is it fraud?"

"It's romance scam! Oh my, victims are popping up all over the country!"

"We need to report this, quickly! Oh, where did she go?"

They urgently took out their mobile phones from here and there, but it was already too late. Larien was already gone. With her lovely Sabrina, leaving only Dane standing there with a bewildered face.

* * *

Damn, if I get involved in other people's business again, I'm not human.

Dane cursed as he started the car. As he drove, suppressing his boiling insides, many questions went back and forth in his mind. Is that woman also a Miller? Probably so? There wouldn't be another face that looks so similar, plus being an extreme Alpha.

The Miller family has six children. Of course, daughters are mixed in. That was all the information Dane knew about them. He had known early on that Chase was one of them thanks to Joshua, but in Greyson's case, he hadn't made the connection until Joshua mentioned it, showing how little he knew. Despite them looking so similar.

Of course, since it had nothing to do with me anyway.

Anyway, he had thought there was no way he would be entangled with Miller again, but unexpectedly, another Miller appeared. And because she was a woman, he couldn't even properly get angry. If it had been a male sibling, he would have grabbed him by the collar, dragged him outside, and had a fight.

"Damn it!"

With a curse, he hit the steering wheel with his fist. The only person who could make sense of this situation was Greyson Miller. Those meaningful words he had said then, he clearly knew something.

Surely that bastard didn't set this up...

Just as another thought rose in his mind, wondering if he wasn't the type to do such things and more, suddenly, black smoke covering the bright blue sky in the distance came into view.

...Huh?

An ominous premonition made his heart uneasy. As he continued driving, the smoke got closer and closer. No way, it can't be. Surely not such...

He continued to deny it. But as he approached his home, the bad premonition gradually became reality.

"Dane!"

As Dane, who had parked his car at some distance away, rushed urgently, Ezra, who spotted him, shouted. Dane stopped abruptly, turning pale. His precious house was engulfed in bright red flames, burning fiercely. Dane was momentarily dazed. As he stared at the flames as if entranced, reality slowly crept into his mind. And then he let out a loud shout, almost like a scream.

"Darling!"
