Chapter 92
Part 7 It must not be love
1
Kaboom, bang, a series of loud noises echoed as dusty smoke scattered. With the ominous sounds following the roar behind them, Dane remained kneeling without moving. Greyson was the same. Only his pupils were shaking violently, filled with longing.
After what was just a few seconds, but felt like an eternity.
Suddenly, Dane smirked. Greyson hesitated at the sight of him twisting the corners of his mouth and smiling as if in disbelief. Just as he felt an ominous feeling, Dane abruptly tapped Greyson's cheek with his second finger. As if playing a prank, with his eyes narrowed while looking into Greyson's pupils.
"What a cute thing to say."
At the light tone, Greyson reluctantly acknowledged that Dane had not taken his confession seriously at all. Even though he had spoken with all his sincerity.
Even now, his frantically beating heart was without any falsehood.
"Dane."
"Ah."
When he urgently called his name, Dane suddenly let out an exclamation as if something had occurred to him. When Greyson hesitated, he immediately looked at him searchingly with a frowning face.
"Do you happen to know a woman named Larien?"
Greyson didn't respond immediately. He stared blankly into Dane's eyes before opening his mouth.
"Ah."
At his response, just one word, the same exclamation as Dane's earlier, Dane's eyebrows gradually rose. Greyson subtly rolled his eyes to avoid his gaze, but of course, he knew well that this wouldn't end so ambiguously.
"Greyson Miller."
Soon, as if seeing through him, Dane called his name. Though that was all, the low voice was more threatening than a hundred words to the man who had just confessed his love. Greyson, who had been stubbornly avoiding his gaze with a troubled expression, finally returned his eyes as if he had made up his mind. Soon after, he created a widely smiling face as usual.
"So you met my sister. How did she seem? Was she doing well?"
Dane silently showed his tightly clenched fist. As if to say he would pulverize Greyson's face with it. After confirming that the corners of Greyson's mouth dropped as he rolled his eyes to look down at the fist, Dane opened his mouth.
"Spill everything. What happened?"
At the stern voice that seemed to say he wouldn't forgive even the slightest lie, Greyson scratched his cheek and eventually sighed.
"I just did a little background check on that woman."
"That woman?"
When Dane frowned, Greyson answered briefly.
"Sabrina Woods."
"Huh."
Dane let out an exclamation as if in disbelief. Greyson immediately protested.
"There's no way she could be pregnant with your child. I was just worried you might be deceived by a scammer."
At the reaction that seemed rather wronged, Dane was dumbfounded, but for now, he held back and silently urged him to continue. Greyson continued with a still dissatisfied expression.
"When I did a background check, I found Larien among the people she had been involved with recently..."
"So you contacted your sister and told her about the hospital? On the very day I had agreed to go with Sabrina?"
When Dane, unable to hold back, interrupted, Greyson turned his head away primly. This bastard, after I called him pretty. Dane clenched his fist again but couldn't bring himself to hit him. After all, this guy was the benefactor who had saved Darling's life.
Besides, perhaps...
The suspicion that Greyson Miller might have been abused still remained in his heart. Could the other siblings have grown up in the same environment?
"It seems you're in contact with Larien, even though she's on the wanted list."
As he muttered to himself, thinking that there might be a bond between siblings who share the same pain, Greyson returned his gaze to Dane.
"No, not at all."
Dane hesitated and looked at him. As if to ask how he did it then.
"You know too, that our family all have tracking devices in our bodies."
Greyson indifferently pointed out the fact Dane had forgotten. To Dane, who inwardly realized with an "ah," he continued.
"Finding Larien's location is simple. I just asked the secretarial team to deliver a message. There's a separate secretarial team dedicated to handling such trivial matters..."
If that's the case, couldn't she be arrested immediately even if she's on the national wanted list? Dane suddenly thought, but then changed his mind. No one would inform on their family.
Seeing Dane at a loss for words at the unexpected scale, Greyson suddenly grinned. When Dane immediately backed away as if wary, he said nonchalantly.
"Larien is so greedy that she never lets go of someone she's targeted. Especially if it's someone who's pregnant, I thought she would definitely show up."
"...Haa."
Dane couldn't help but sigh. It had become such a mess. People say it's hard to see an extreme Alpha in a lifetime, but he had seen two, and both were Millers. Including the Miller he knew through connections, that made three. How did so many Millers end up around him?
After rubbing his face with one hand, he looked into the distance for a moment before shaking off the thought. Soon after, Dane stood up and looked down at Greyson.
"If something like this happens again, tell me first, don't sneakily plot behind my back."
At the words added like a warning, pointing at Greyson with his second finger, Greyson stood up and looked down at Dane with a frowning face.
"I was just trying to help."
"I'm asking this sincerely, have people ever been happy when you helped them?"
"Of course. Everyone liked it."
"That's absolutely not possible, didn't I tell you not to lie?"
Dane's position was firm. With a face still full of dissatisfaction, Greyson closed his mouth. This bastard lies when you let your guard down. Dane took a breath in and out before giving a final warning.
"Just do as you're told. Don't help others on your own, understand?"
Dane waited as if expecting an answer, but Greyson stubbornly kept his mouth shut. There was no need to waste time, so he just turned around, but before he had taken a few steps, Greyson stopped him from behind.
"I told you I like you. Why aren't you answering that?"
At the voice full of dissatisfaction, Dane tilted his head to look at the sky and sighed again.
"Pretty one."
Dane turned his body toward Greyson and sneered.
"Do you think you're the first person to confess that you like me?"
Watching the expression disappear from Greyson's face, he smiled coldly.
"Has no one ever asked you to marry them?"
Greyson was silent this time too. Dane momentarily felt sympathy for him. Even while thinking it was an absurd emotion, he couldn't deny that for a very brief moment, he felt sorry and compassionate. It's crucial not to weaken at such times out of pity. If you're not going to accept them anyway, it's better to reject them coldly. As he had always done.
...But Darling.
None of those who had confessed to him until now had risked their lives for Dane's poor cat. In that respect, Dane couldn't help but weaken toward Greyson.
After pondering for a moment, he let out a short sigh and rubbed his forehead with one hand. Greyson silently stood watching the fluctuation of his emotions. Though he couldn't understand with his heart what was complicating Dane's mind right now, he understood with his head. He was analyzing Dane's every move by mobilizing all the knowledge he had learned.
Dane eventually opened his mouth as if he had decided what to say.
"Miller, I have no intention of dating anyone, including you. So your confession doesn't change anything for me. I'm grateful for Darling, but that's it. Don't expect anything more."
Wasn't this sufficiently cold, yet careful enough not to hurt him too much? This situation itself was too special for Dane. He had never been so considerate of someone who had confessed to him until now.
But the other party was Greyson Miller.
"How about dating for just three months as a trial?"}
