Vol 7 Chapter 35
And Superior lightly waved his hand to erase the drawings in the air before flopping back down. Making a mockery of his words about watching, snoring sounds could be heard within minutes. Looking at the grass beyond where the sounds came from, Kapros let out a long breath.
Well, fine. Then now shall he really... start with the 7th circle.
"You, flame sharper than a blade."
Whoosh...!
The moment the incantation began, some force surged hot enough to feel like it would pierce through his abdomen before subsiding. As this was his first time experiencing this, Kapros paused briefly in surprise, but soon continued with the rest of the incantation.
"Become a venomous tail and pierce through to the heart. Scorpion Fire!"
For several seconds after shouting the name, nothing happened. But then,
Fwoosh!!
Along with the feeling of magical power being drained away, a bright red flame rose like a shadow from the ground ahead through the formula world that quickly spread before his eyes.
'Ugh.... To think it would be this demanding even though my magical power has increased that much.'
When Kapros stared intently at the Scorpion Fire while trying to keep his mind empty, the magic stood quietly in place without any activity.
The flame, standing straight like a scorpion with its tail raised, was so dark it was almost black and about as tall as Kapros. Though it was merely existing, sweat seeped from his clenched hands as it seemed to emit an overwhelming aura completely different from any magic until now.
Superior had said something about politely getting to know each other when first using magic, but that surely didn't mean literally having a conversation with the magic.
'Well... just maintaining it seems fine. Should I say it's fortunately more docile compared to when I first used Inferno.'
After examining Scorpion Fire from various angles, Kapros decided to try applying this Law of Reverse Flow that Superior had mentioned.
'First... unidirectional type.'
While looking at Scorpion Fire standing straight up, he imagined in his mind the image of it extending forward like thrusting a spear.
Then, along with the feeling of magical power being drained once more from his body, a hot force rushed unobstructed from his abdomen to his fingertips with a whoosh. Though his head didn't hurt, it was quite a strange sensation.
'Ah....'
At the same time, Scorpion Fire instantly extended its tip and pierced through dozens of trees.
Fwoosh! Bang! Bang! Bang! Boom boom boom!
Good heavens. Kapros opened his mouth looking at Scorpion Fire standing before him, returned to its original size, and the traces of flames extending lightly hundreds of meters ahead.
This was absolutely not the level of power he had wanted.
'I only meant to pierce through five or six trees in front...'
His head grew increasingly dizzy from feeling his magical power visibly depleting. Kapros glared at Scorpion Fire while biting his lip.
Now he understood why Superior had insisted on learning how to control magic's power at this point. If he had used it recklessly without paying attention to control as usual, he might have been hurt by his own magic or collapsed instantly from improper magical power control.
'I can still handle it for now.... Then next, free type!'
Whoosh!!
The moment he imagined it flying in zigzags here and there, a severe headache that hadn't been there before struck him, and a hot force rose from his abdomen, choking his chest.
'This is....'
Feeling pain similar to but worse than when trying to delicately control Inferno, Kapros focused his imaging on Scorpion Fire as much as possible, and the flame that had been trembling as if in rebellion finally started moving slowly, bending here and there as he wanted. However, everywhere the flames touched caused far greater devastation than he had hoped for, leaving nothing intact.
This clearly meant it wasn't a free type magic. Kapros thought this as he withdrew the magic.
To make this magic into area type would require summoning multiple instances to surround the target and attack simultaneously, but since he couldn't yet properly handle multiple 7th circle spells delicately at the same time, he had to give up on imaging it as area type.
'The magical power inside my body seems to move more easily the more I handle it according to its proper type... I hope that's not just my imagination.'
The difference in feeling between using it as unidirectional type versus free type was extremely clear.
'But as Superior said, it's not impossible to move it in other types if you concentrate on imaging.'
In other words, though his first attempt had been a mess, with enough effort even 7th circle magic could be handled however he wanted. The moment he reached that conclusion, a desire to master all 7th circle magic welled up from deep within his heart.
'...This could be interesting.'
He wanted to practice more and more to achieve his desired results. After slightly raising the corner of his mouth and checking his magical power status, Kapros tried chanting a different incantation.
"You, ice softer than flowers!"
.....
It took a full 10 days in mental world time until Kapros could figure out the types of three attack spells among Superior's five 7th circle spells and control their power somewhat better.
Though he hadn't tried the support and mental magic yet, he could clearly realize that even just the attack magic was incredible with an unbelievable scale. It took even longer because he experimented whenever questions about types arose with lower magic between practice sessions, but the fact that less than 3 days had passed in outside time allowed him to focus without hesitation.
Once he figured out the type first, the next part was certainly more relaxed since it was just grinding-type imaging that improved the more time he put in.
What Kapros realized through this was that even among magic types, there were good and bad compatibilities when modifying images. This fact came as quite fascinating and surprising to him who had been attempting image modification unconditionally without being conscious of such things until now.
The compatibility differences in image modification were like mathematical formulas.
Unidirectional type magic was difficult to make into free type. But it was easy to make into area type. Because theoretically, an area type magic would be created if you could just make it surround the target in a circle.
