Chapter 30: The Journey Begins Here
After the family banquet, the Su family had effectively submitted their calling card to the upper echelons of the Management Council and temporarily gained a backer. As for how reliable this backer was, that remained to be seen and observed.
With the smuggling case storm passing, the four companies - Su, Liu, Bai, and Kong - in Zha'nan District had all returned to normal, entering a state of heads-down work. Second Uncle, Su Tiannan, Su Tianbei, Third Sister, and the others had also resumed their previous states, becoming busy.
Su Tianyu was temporarily without work, and this year's civil service application period had ended during his recovery period. So he stayed at home for two days, bored out of his mind, either reading books or hanging out with Daxiong.
These past two evenings, Daxiong would come to the Su family as soon as he got off work, and even accompanied Su Tianyu around Dragon City, taking him to some famous tourist spots and snack streets.
Su Tianyu was actually very clear in his heart that Daxiong's frequent visits to the Su family were mainly to catch a few more glimpses of Third Sister's stockings, and incidentally to make friends with him.
These two days, Su Zhengcai had also been observing Tianyu. He had originally thought the child would figure things out on his own, but seeing no movement from him for two days, the old man finally couldn't hold back.
This Friday evening, after dinner, Su Zhengcai sat smoking under the pavilion at home and asked Su Tianyu sideways: "Little Six, how have you considered that matter?"
Su Tianyu grinned and deliberately asked back: "Which matter?"
"Stop pretending, are you going to work at the Yu family or not?!" Su Zhengcai asked directly.
Su Tianyu scratched his head: "To be honest, I'm not very keen on working in a private enterprise."
"Are you stupid, child? Yu Jinrong is at the deputy director level, and I heard he was transferred from Zone One. People like that have very strong networks. If you stay by his side for a year and do a good job, he can be of great help when you apply for civil service next year," Su Zhengcai said with furrowed brows.
Su Tianyu paused before asking in return: "If he helps me so much, how can I repay him?"
Su Zhengcai was stunned for a moment: "Ah, you've already thought deeply about this, haven't you?"
"I can pass the exam on my own," Su Tianyu said confidently. "But if I owe Yu Jinrong such a big favor before I even start working, then whatever department I enter in the future will be influenced by the Yu family."
Su Zhengcai pondered for a while: "You're just like your father, always liking to look three steps ahead. But you should know, many times, when you haven't even taken the step right in front of you, how do you know if you'll have the chance to take the second or third step?"
Su Tianyu blinked, looking at Second Uncle with some surprise.
"Taking the civil service exam, finding a good unit, a good backer, that's starting off faster than others. You might be very capable, but what use is it if no one appreciates you?" Su Zhengcai said frankly. "Suppose you pass the civil servant exam, and then you're assigned directly to the sea to measure salinity, or assigned to the Women's Association to chat with old ladies all day... If that happens, what second or third step are you talking about? It's directly the last step, waiting to die!"
"You know, Second Uncle, what you're saying makes a lot of sense."
"I've eaten more salt than you've eaten rice," Su Zhengcai said with a yawn. "Man, we need to live more practically, seize the opportunities in front of us to have more opportunities."
"Right," Su Tianyu was someone who could listen to others' opinions. He pondered for a while: "Alright, I understand, Second Uncle."
"Moreover, I personally feel that Yu Jinrong inviting you to work at his home at the table was a bit abrupt," Su Zhengcai took a deep drag on his cigarette and said with a cunning look. "Dog Six, maybe when you get to his company, he has other orders waiting for you."
"Second Uncle, you're really old and crafty!"
"Damn it, who are you talking to?" Second Uncle glared.
"I've thought about what you said," Su Tianyu paused. "This is also why I'm a bit hesitant."
"What do you have?" Su Zhengcai asked.
Su Tianyu blinked and grinned.
"Feel your pocket, not a single coin; then feel your crotch, poor to the point of only having a dick left, not even rich in hair. What do you have to hesitate about?"
"Insightful!" Su Tianyu gave a thumbs up.
"That's settled then," Su Zhengcai stood up and said with his hands behind his back: "I'm going to rest."
Just as he finished speaking, Daxiong walked in from outside like a bear, calling out: "Li-Little Yu Brother... have... have you eaten?"
"Hehe, not yet," Su Tianyu turned back.
Just as Daxiong walked in, Bai Hongbo also came in from outside, holding his car keys and saying: "Brother Tianyu, let's go, I'll take you out for a spin!"
Bai Hongbo had also come twice these past two days. His company needed to draft new contracts for temporary workers, and he had heard that Su Tiannan's quick worker appeasement suggestion had come from Su Tianyu. So this guy had been coming to pick his brains recently, and had become quite familiar with Dog Six.
Su Zhengcai looked at Su Tianyu's two friends and sighed with furrowed brows: "Damn it, playing with these two every day, how can anything good come of this?!"
Bai Hongbo looked up at Su Zhengcai and joked carelessly: "Old man, have you been well recently? My dad's been a bit weak since he came back, always sweating. I just got him some deer penis to supplement. I'll bring you one later."
"Let your dad suck on it, I don't eat that stuff," Su Zhengcai couldn't be bothered to converse with Bai Hongbo and turned back to his main room.
Bai Hongbo bent down to sit and took out a contract from his bag, saying: "Come, take another look at this template for me."
Su Tianyu smiled and reached out to take the template and look it over.
Nothing more was said that night.
......
Early the next morning, Su Tianyu got up early for his morning run of three laps, then washed up and put on a suit that Third Sister had bought him. Sitting on the bed, he dialed the number on the business card.
"Hello!"
"Is this Mr. Yu Mingyuan?" Su Tianyu asked.
"Yes, you are...?"
"Oh, I'm Su Tianyu from the Su family, previously..."
"Ah, ah, ah, my dad told me about you," Yu Mingyuan replied enthusiastically. "Boss's direct hire, huh!"
"Hehe, we chatted a bit that day."
"I'm at the company, you can come directly. I'll send you the address," Yu Mingyuan said proactively. "When you arrive, just have the people downstairs bring you to my office."
"Good, good, thank you for the trouble."
"No problem, we'll talk when we meet."
"Alright then."
With that, they ended the call.
Su Tianyu stood in front of the mirror, carefully adjusted his clothes, then resolutely turned to leave.
Outside, the sun was shining brightly and a warm breeze was blowing. Su Tianyu strode towards the taxi at the street corner.
On this day, Su Tianyu officially set foot in Dragon City, opening a new chapter in his life.
A great era was rolling in.
