Chapter 162

At the gaze looking at him as if betrayed, Dane snorted curtly.

"Who was it that said it's fine to kill in self-defense?"

It was Greyson. Since he knew this fact well himself, he was briefly at a loss for words. But it was after a short silence that he opened his mouth.

"If I commit murder, you'll hate me."

Greyson's voice was heavy with self-deprecation and resignation. As if saying, I know everything. Dane, who had been leading the way, turned around with a frowning face.

"Who says killing bastards who kidnap and torture people is murder?"

At the unexpected words, Greyson hesitated. When he raised his head to look, Dane added in his usual cynical tone.

"That's cleaning. Reducing carbon dioxide, environmental protection for the Earth."

"B-but."

This time Greyson was truly flustered and protested.

"Last time when I said I'd kill that bastard, you got angry at me."

He had been holding back because of that until now.

At the rebuttal that seemed aggrieved, Dane immediately frowned.

"That was because you were saying you'd kill him just to look good to me. Wasn't it? Am I wrong?"

There was nothing to say to that. Greyson was quickly overwhelmed and quietly agreed.

"...Right."

"Of course."

Dane shot back curtly, then turned and walked again. As he pressed against the wall to check the corridor before turning the corner, Greyson quickly stuck close beside him and asked.

"Did you call the police?"

"Why would I call the police?"

At the immediate answer, just as Greyson was about to say something, Dane added first.

"Firefighters never call the police."

Most people knew how much firefighters and police were at odds. Dane was the same. As a firefighter, he would rather choose to run through a minefield alone than call the police. In the end, Greyson had no choice but to close his mouth.

Shh, Dane covered his mouth with his second finger, signaling for quiet. The moment Greyson held his breath, Dane, who seemed to be waiting for something while pressed against the wall, suddenly rushed into the corridor.

As soon as the surprised Greyson followed, a "thwack" sound echoed. Dane, who had taken down the armed man in one blow, gave Greyson a slight nod as if telling him to follow. Greyson whispered, being careful not to raise his voice in excitement.

"Cool, sexy, truly my love."

Dane, who was about to lead the way, suddenly staggered. When he turned around incredulously, he saw a large man looking at him with sparkling eyes. Soon he let out a sigh as if he had no choice. And just as he was about to turn around again, Dane remembered something he had forgotten. That's right.

"You, when you were kidnapped..."

Just as he was about to ask 'Why did you get captured so obediently?', Greyson's eyes went wide.

"Dane!"

Suddenly he screamed. Before Dane could even grasp the situation, his feet were lifted high into the air.

...Huh?

Just as he was bewildered, his body suddenly flew up. In his briefly glimpsed vision, he saw an enormous bald giant.

What is that...

Dane was flustered, but there was no time to take any measures. He was mercilessly slammed body-first into the wall.

"Dane, Dane!"

Greyson turned pale and ran to Dane. Dane, who had collapsed pathetically on the floor, belatedly came to his senses and raised his head. Thump, thump, the man approached with ominous footsteps. A giant who was taller than Greyson and nearly three times his build was walking toward them.

"Move aside."

Dane pushed Greyson away as if annoyed and hurriedly got up to assume a stance. He had been dispatched to local battlefields several times, but this was his first such opponent. The man approaching with a menacing face grinding his teeth was barehanded, but his body itself was a weapon. Dane quickly drew his military knife from his waist. He had a gun, but if other guys came running because of the noise, it would be very troublesome. Somehow he had to take down that giant with this.

"Dane, it's dangerous!"

Ignoring Greyson's urgent shout, Dane gripped his knife properly and charged at the man. The moment the man stretched out his arm to grab his body, Dane twisted his body and climbed up the wall. As soon as his legs spread wide and his feet touched the wall, he kicked off and flew up. In an instant, he landed behind the giant man and simultaneously swung his military knife. With a gruesome sound, flesh split.

"Grrugh..."

The man whose back was cut let out a groan close to a scream in agony. Dane landed on the floor, crouched, and swung his knife again. This time he aimed for the man's Achilles tendon but failed. The man barely dodged his foot, leaving only a shallow scratch. Clicking his tongue, Dane charged at the man again. Quickly scanning the man's body to find an opening, Dane swung his knife again. Suddenly the man glared with bloodshot eyes and gritted his teeth.

"You bastard...!"

His huge arm swept through the air. Oh no, Dane realized his mistake for a moment, but it was already too late. He was hit in the head by the thick, large hand.

"Dane!"

Greyson screamed again. Dane's body, thrown pathetically to the floor, bounced once and then settled down again. Then the man charged toward Dane. Before Dane could even pull himself together, the man who rushed at him with loud thump, thump footsteps grabbed him.

"Guk, gruk..."

The man who gripped his neck with one hand glared with bulging eyes. His whole body tensed as if he would tear Dane to shreds. The man looked like he was dying of rage at the fact that he had been wounded. This little fish, I'll kill you, I'll kill you...!

"Grit...!"

Just as the man was drooling and holding Dane's neck with one hand while grabbing his arm with the other to tear it off.

"Uh...?"

Suddenly the man made a blank sound. Soon after, the hand holding Dane loosened. Dane, who had been struggling desperately to escape from him, suddenly felt something strange and frowned. And the next moment, a disgusting crunching sound was heard. Crunch, crunch, crunch, following the consecutive sounds, bright streams of blood scattered in all directions.

"Uh..."

The giant man left only that one word and his eyes rolled back. Then, behind the man falling forward, Greyson's figure covered in blood was visible. The man's back lying on the floor was split wide open. Dane realized then that Greyson had completely torn open the back wound he had made. Through the wide crack in his back, the protruding vertebrae were clearly visible. It looked as if flesh had been torn with bare hands and the spine inside had been grabbed and pulled out. Unbelievably. But seeing the still-wet blood soaking Greyson's hands dripping to the floor, he had to believe it.

A disgusting smell of blood was felt. At the terrible sight, Dane stopped breathing in shock. He looked down at the man who was still gasping with wide eyes, then slowly raised his gaze. Greyson, stained with bright red blood, stood looking down at them with an expressionless face.

"It's self-defense."

That was all he said. Dane said nothing. It was after that when he spoke.

"Yeah, that's right."

Dane hurriedly got up and lightly patted Greyson's shoulder. As if to say good job.

"Let's go quickly."

That was all Dane said. At the sight of him starting to run down the corridor again, Greyson's mouth slowly opened.

"Yeah."

With a slight blush on his cheeks, he hurriedly chased after Dane. At this moment, he couldn't feel any pain. Rather, his feet were so light he felt like he could fly through the sky.

* * *

Bang, a loud sound echoed. The leader, Emerson, who had confirmed the situation that had just occurred in real-time through the surveillance camera installed in the corridor, trembled all over with rage. How dare, how dare those bastards...!

The guys standing behind him, who was glaring at the screen after hitting the desk hard with his fist, spoke up anxiously with difficulty.

"Th-there, Mr. Emerson. Wh-what should we do? Sam, Sam was taken down... Now we, what should we do."

"What do you mean what! We have to stop those bastards!"

Emerson shouted roughly.

"Grab your weapons right now, shoot them anywhere to hit them! If those bastards escape from here, we're all finished!"

"Yes, y-yes. Understood, Mr. Emerson...!"

The men frantically rushed out of the surveillance room. Emerson, watching their retreating figures, gritted his teeth and clenched his fists.

It's okay, I still have a remaining move.

He turned around and glared at Dane and Greyson on the surveillance camera, thinking.

If it comes to it, I can use that to eliminate them all.
