Chapter 37

Even in the midst of this, the house continued to collapse. Just when it seemed there was no more time, firefighters placed a ladder where Dane was standing.

Even then, Dane handed over the dog first. After another firefighter received the dog from below, only then did he step down one rung at a time. And the moment he set his first foot on the ground, the building completely collapsed. Simultaneously, the firefighters rushed to him with cheers.

"Dane, Daaane!"

"You bastard, do you know how worried we were? You're always like this!"

"I knew you could do it, I knew it!"

"Charlie, Charliiie...! Huhuhuuu..."

"Come on, Dane. You rest now. We'll take care of the rest."

"Someone give Dane some oxygen, hurry!"

The sight of colleagues pouring out words of concern and relief while patting his shoulders and embracing him blurred before Dane's eyes. Some firmly gripped his arms, others vigorously patted his back, repeating "Are you okay?" Their faces were a mix of relief, excitement, and tension that had not yet subsided.

But amid all that attention and commotion, Dane simply said:

"Does anyone have water?"

At his nonchalant words, spoken with a rather tired face while brushing back his disheveled red hair, everyone rushed to offer their water bottles.

Only after inhaling fresh oxygen and getting enough hydration did Dane finally regain his senses somewhat. By then, the fire was almost extinguished, and the firefighters were now handling the remaining tasks, wandering around the area.

It was then that his eyes met with someone looking at him. When Dane turned his head, he immediately locked eyes with Greyson. After looking at him for a moment, Dane completely emptied the bottled water he was drinking, put down the empty bottle, and spoke first.

"What? Do you have something to say?"

There was no provocative tone in his question. Rather, his annoyed-sounding question was probably sincere. After all, he had just gone through a life-and-death situation.

Greyson, who had been silently watching Dane, had a faint smile on his lips. Is this the time to smile? Dane suddenly wondered, but didn't bother to think deeply about it. As he silently waited for an answer, Greyson slowly spoke up.

"Aren't you going to tell me that I don't suit this job, or that I should try something else?"

These were the words Greyson had been hearing until just now. Of course, it wasn't the first time he had heard such criticism and admonishment. You're a guy who acts as you please without considering others' positions, you don't belong here, you don't fit this job, and so on. Here, one more would be added.

Something like, it's absurd that someone like you would be a firefighter working with a sense of mission.

Thinking this guy would say the same thing, Greyson waited. Is it now time to listen to his self-righteous lecture?

"Why would I?"

Greyson flinched at the indifferent response. To Greyson, who was watching him without even moving, Dane said with his still tired face.

"It's your life. How you live it is up to you."

After saying that, Dane found a new water bottle, opened the cap, and gulped down the water. Greyson could only look at him with surprised eyes.

...What is he? This guy.

When people first discovered the platypus, they say no one in the world believed in the existence of such a creature. Right now, Greyson was experiencing the feeling of the person who first discovered the platypus. What did that man think when he first saw that ridiculous animal? Probably just like me right now.

What the hell is this guy?

Greyson looked at Dane with a confused face. But Dane, as if he had no interest in others anymore, was just sitting on the sidewalk in front of a house that the fire hadn't spread to, drinking water with a tired face.

Part 3 The Best Boobs

1

Naomi Parker, who had won an Oscar for Best Actress, was memorizing a new movie script while holding her precious dog that day too. Just as she put a biscuit in her mouth and picked up the freshly brewed coffee, the phone suddenly rang. She checked the number curiously at the late-hour call, then brightened up. It was a call from another actor she had been close with since her debut.

"Yes, it's me. What's up? Of course. Why? What is it?"

Naomi, who had answered the phone happily, was nodding and saying "yes, yes," when she was suddenly startled.

"What?"

She stood up without realizing it, causing the script that had been on her knees to fall to the floor, but she didn't care. The news she had heard was that shocking. With the dog safely tucked under one arm, unlike the script, Naomi continued the call.

"Greyson Miller became a firefighter? What are you talking about?"

– I don't know either. How did this happen.

A perplexed voice continued from the other end.

– I saw it by chance, and would you believe Greyson Miller was wearing firefighter gear? I looked several times to be sure, I'm 99 percent certain, but I still couldn't believe it so I called you. You're close with Greyson Miller.

"Very close."

Naomi said with a smile, gritting her teeth.

"Close enough that I'd love to attend his funeral."

– Really? Anyway... check it out. The search term is...

Her friend, unaware of Naomi's deep feelings, told her how to search for it. As soon as Naomi hung up, she opened YouTube and searched as instructed. The video was about a fire that had occurred in some town. At the burning houses being filmed, numerous firefighters were moving busily. Except for one person.

"Oh my God! It really is him?"

Naomi exclaimed without realizing it and hurriedly found the frame and paused it. With fingers trembling from shock, she rewound, paused, and played again. But no matter how many times she looked, it was the same. There couldn't be another person in the world with this physique and this face.

As her friend had said, the person caught on camera was undoubtedly Greyson Miller. The tall stature over 2 meters, the overwhelming silhouette created by his long limbs. And above all, those distinctive purple eyes.

Good heavens, a firefighter? This man?

It was hard to believe even seeing it with her own eyes. Greyson Miller and firefighter, could there be a more mismatched combination? That must be why everyone was surprised and recorded the video.

"Oh my, oh my goodness, oh my."

After repeatedly looking at the screen and lifting her head in amazement, she finally gathered her thoughts while calming her surprised heart. If this man was doing something so unsuitable for him, there could only be one reason.

To find his destined person.

"People really don't change, do they."

Naomi could only laugh in disbelief. Disgusting bastard. She cursed Greyson inwardly. She could never forget the humiliation he had inflicted on her.

Naomi had come to know Greyson during the period when she had contracted with his friend Keith. Keith Pitman was also an extreme Alpha, who was single at the time and was releasing his pheromones by changing partners regularly. And that's when Naomi had newly contracted with him.

Unfortunately, the period wasn't long. Or rather, the period was much longer than with other partners, but they actually did it only a few times. After being together a few times in the beginning, Keith didn't seek her out, and the dates just passed by vaguely. On the surface, she was Keith's pheromone partner, but in reality, she hardly did anything.

In the midst of this, Naomi got to know Greyson, who was Keith's friend, and naturally slept with him. As she herself boasted a colorful history with men, she didn't hesitate to sleep with someone if she liked them, and in that sense, she and Greyson were compatible.

Besides that, Greyson was a fairly decent partner. He knew how to say the right things appropriately and was quick-witted, so he never upset her either. Though he wasn't a serious partner, Naomi had maintained a friendship with him thinking he was a good man as a friend, but her illusion was shattered one day.
