Chapter 59
Ezra, who had somehow understood Greyson's words mixed in the noise, asked while drinking his beer.
"Huh? Are you talking about Dane? Didn't you say you met him?"
Looking at his puzzled face, Greyson answered.
"That's right."
A faint smile appeared on his lips.
"I did meet him."
"See, that's what I said."
Ezra chatted excitedly while continuously emptying his drink. Letting Ezra's words go in one ear and out the other, Greyson was thinking about what to do next.
* * *
"What? Go to a club together?"
Dane frowned and asked after hearing the message from Ezra. Ezra, who had happily delivered the news, nodded and added an explanation.
"Miller doesn't mix well with us. So let's try to get closer on this occasion. After all, we're on the same team..."
Of course, Dane didn't think so.
"He'll only be here for a year? About 10 months left now."
After subtracting the time that had passed and roughly stating the remaining time, Ezra frowned and patted his arm a couple of times.
"Dane, it would be nice to get along well while he's here."
Ezra added, as if admonishing him.
"Miller is just an ordinary person like us. Just with a different phenotype."
Dane's response came immediately.
"Ezra, are you drunk?"
Instead of answering, he looked at Dane with a reproachful expression. Soon after, Ezra sighed and changed his tone to persuade Dane.
"Dane, we've been misunderstanding. Miller isn't such a bad guy. If we help him a little, he'll get much better, I'm telling you."
"You're too soft, Ezra."
Dane still hadn't changed his opinion. But Ezra knew well how to handle this. After all, he had three daughters who were already at a very stubborn age.
"Alright, alright. I understand what you're saying. Anyway, let's all go together. He's reaching out first, wanting to get closer to us, and it would be impolite to refuse, wouldn't it? Let's just go, maintain the atmosphere, and then leave. If you're busy, you can make an excuse about your cat and leave early, right? The important thing is that you showed your face. Okay?"
Ezra continued to persuade him. Dane stubbornly kept his mouth shut, but eventually he sighed deeply and ran one hand over his face.
"It's not an excuse about the cat. Darling really worries when I'm late."
"Yes, of course she would."
Ezra patted Dane's back as if he understood everything and immediately brightened up and said.
"So it's settled? I'll let them know you're coming too, okay?"
At the repeated confirmation, Dane waved one hand up and down as if to say that was enough and he should go now. If he bothered him any more, he would surely get angry. Knowing that even this much was quite lenient from Dane's perspective, Ezra quickly backed away.
Now we can clear up the misunderstanding with Dane.
He walked with a light step, a smile on his lips. Having a drink with Greyson the day before had been a very good choice. During that beneficial time, Ezra had cleared up many misunderstandings about Greyson and now evaluated the man as quite decent.
His first impression wasn't very good, but we were the ones who attacked first, so...
Anyway, all's well that ends well. This would put the button that had been wrongly fastened at first back in its right place.
* * *
Dane, who had been watching Ezra's back as he turned and left with a refreshed face, brought the can he had been drinking to his mouth and downed it in one go. The carbonation of the soft drink burst noisily in his mouth, stinging his throat.
What is he thinking?
Dane frowned as he recalled his thoughts. Greyson Miller turning out to be a good guy? That's nonsense. Ezra was seriously mistaken.
Usually, he was so good-natured that seeing the whole world through rose-colored glasses was one of his few shortcomings. Not even thinking about why extreme Alphas are called psychopaths.
Well, all human beings are like that.
It's not just because they're psychopaths. Humans are inherently cruel and shameless. So Ezra's words weren't that wrong. Extreme Alphas are just ordinary people like us.
Ordinarily shameless, ordinarily brazen.
Having thought that far, he soon snickered. I'm no different.
* * *
Loud music echoed all around. The ear-piercing music made Ezra's mind go blank. It required considerable energy to walk through the swaying bodies of dancing people with lights flashing from all directions. By the time he barely reached the bar and ordered a beer, he already felt completely drained.
"Are you okay? Pull yourself together."
DeAndre spoke to him with a snicker. Ezra only shook his head and answered after gulping down the cold beer.
"I've never liked places like this. It's amazing, really. I'm already exhausted just getting here, but those people are even dancing out there."
Ezra, who had spoken with admiration, slowly lowered the beer bottle he was about to bring to his mouth again. DeAndre, standing next to him, was also staring in the same direction with a blank face.
There, Dane was dancing. The sight of him naturally swaying his body under the chaotic lights with a woman he had never seen before pressing her entire body close to him and moving together was undoubtedly someone enjoying themselves one hundred percent. After seeing him wrap one arm around the woman's waist and kiss her neck, DeAndre burst out in indignation and asked.
"That bastard, didn't he say he didn't want to come?"
"He did."
Ezra answered. DeAndre snorted and brought his beer to his mouth.
"Unbelievable, he seems to be enjoying it the most?"
"Yeah."
Ezra answered again with a blank face to the voice full of resentment. Suddenly looking to the side, he saw Greyson leaning against the bar, drinking beer. Feeling somewhat embarrassed, Ezra checked Greyson's reaction, but it was difficult to discern his expression, perhaps due to the dazzling lights.
"Hey."
When he called out loudly, Greyson flinched and looked down at him. Seeing his gently curved eyes, Ezra felt even heavier in his heart.
"Have you talked with Dane?"
To the words he shouted with all his might this time too, Greyson silently shook his head. Ezra slumped his shoulders in disappointment.
Haa, I thought so. He inwardly recalled. I should have suggested changing the location when he said club. It's not a place to come just to drink in the first place, and there's no way Dane would come to a place like this and just drink quietly and leave.
He regretted it, but it was already too late. This was Greyson's fault for choosing a club in the first place. Since he said he wanted to get closer, he must have chosen a place Dane would like, and such an atmosphere of enjoyment might help...
But that should have been decided based on the person. Bringing a man who always hooks up with someone for a one-night stand on his day off to a place like this, how is that any different from placing an aquarium in front of a cat?
Ezra shook his head again and brought the beer to his mouth. Thinking that the person who should go home early was not Dane but himself.
* * *
"Want to come to our place together?"
The woman who had pressed her chest firmly against Dane's body asked. She said she had come with two friends and shared everything with them, including where they lived. That is, this included that act as well. It wasn't that he had never dealt with three people at once, but it was too late today.
"Sorry, next time."
He apologized sincerely and gave each of them a very deep kiss in turn before saying goodbye. After waving his hand lightly and coming down from the floor, Dane walked to the bar where his colleagues were waiting, brushing back his sweat-soaked hair. The rest of the men looked at him bitterly as he ordered and drank beer like the other guys. Ezra, who had been silently watching him as he gulped down the cold alcohol with his Adam's apple bobbing prominently, only opened his mouth after Dane removed the bottle from his lips.
"You look like you're really enjoying yourself."
"Not bad."
"What? Not bad? Not baaad?"
DeAndre, who was standing on the opposite side, immediately shouted exaggeratedly.
"You only say it's not bad? What would you do if it was good? Huh? Just now, with three women, huh? Moving your body like this, like this, huh? And then what? Not bad?"
"He even kissed them! All three!"
"You bastard, you're the enemy of mankind! Be cursed!"
Voices condemning him poured out from here and there. Dane emptied the remaining beer with an indifferent face. The noisy music continued to ring in his head. Maybe he should go home now. Looking at the time, it was quite late.
Of course, he had no intention of going back without doing anything. When he slowly looked around the interior to find a suitable partner, he happened to make eye contact with a man with a cute, chubby face and a decent amount of flesh.
