Chapter 307 Mysterious Taxi
"Miss Chen, it's quite windy on the deck. Why don't you go inside and rest for a bit?" said a young female assistant to the girl in a white dress standing on the deck of the luxurious King cruise ship.
The girl in the white dress was stunningly beautiful and very tall. If anyone else were standing there, they would surely exclaim, "Wow! It's Chen Xin!" or tug at their clothes and beg, "Chen Xin, please give me an autograph!"
The girl in the white dress had experienced all of these things before. Her name was Chen Xin, a well-known Chinese actress, singer, and star. Recently, she had joined a film crew to shoot a movie in Sunan City. The crew members were quite friendly and would invite Chen Xin to dine with them every day on the ship.
One of the producers from Taiwan particularly loved drinking and would make off-color jokes when he was drunk. So, Chen Xin would just eat a little during mealtime and then escape to the deck to enjoy the sea breeze.
"It's fine, I like the sea breeze," she said.
"Too much wind can give you a headache," the assistant reminded her thoughtfully.
"Mark, don't worry, I'm fine," Chen Xin reassured her newly-hired assistant with a smile. "You can help me get some headache medicine if it really comes to that."
With Chen Xin's assurance, the assistant reluctantly returned to the cabin, glancing back every few steps. The girl in the white dress continued to lean on the railing, gazing at the horizon, lost in thought.
Everyone thinks fame is great, and she used to think the same when she was a naive young girl. But once you find yourself in that position, you realize just how lonely it can be. Celebrities must maintain a distance from ordinary people to preserve their mystique. As a "pure and innocent" type of artist, Chen Xin had to do the same. That's why she desperately wanted her former college class president to organize a reunion, so she could relive the carefree days of her youth.
"Bang!" While lost in thought, Chen Xin suddenly heard a loud noise nearby. Startled, she instinctively looked over, only to see water splashing on the ocean surface.
And on the previously empty deck now stood a drenched man.
"Being soaked like this is so uncomfortable," the man said as he pressed his hand against his chest. A miraculous scene unfolded: white steam rose from his body, his clothes inflated for a moment, and then they dried and clung to him.
Even his hair was no longer damp. Was he a magician? Chen Xin was a bit stunned, and at this moment, the man looked up and examined the girl in the white dress. They both felt a sense of familiarity at the same time.
"I'm sorry for disturbing you," said Qin Chao with a nod to Chen Xin. He then politely asked, "Miss, could you please tell me where this ship is heading?"
"W-Weilian City..." Chen Xin stammered, shocked. Could it be that this man really jumped onto the ship from the water?
"Great! Thank you." Qin Chao was thrilled with his luck, having come across a ship heading back to Weilian City. "I swear, from now on, I'm never going out to sea without a compass," he thought to himself.
As Qin Chao thanked her, he made his way towards the cabin. He had fought a fierce battle and only had a cup of poisoned red wine for breakfast. Now he wanted to eat something and find a quiet place to heal his wounds.
"Sir, please wait!" Chen Xin called out anxiously.
Surprised by her own actions, she wondered why she wanted to stop a man. It was unbelievable.
"What is it, miss? Do you need something?" Although he was in a hurry to tend to his injuries, Qin Chao couldn't bring himself to refuse a request from a girl.
"You look a lot like someone I know," Chen Xin said, her cheeks suddenly turning red. She realized this sounded like a pickup line.
She hoped the man in front of her wouldn't misunderstand. He mustn't misunderstand! But alas, he did. He looked at her oddly.
"No, no, that's not what I meant! I'm not trying to hit on you... Oh god..." Chen Xin covered her mouth, realizing that what she said might not have been the best choice of words.
Qin Chao appeared somewhat hurt and asked softly, "Miss, if you have any questions, just ask."
"Um... well..." Chen Xin lowered her hand and cautiously asked, "What's your name?"
"My name is Qin Chao." Qin Chao said, hands in his pockets.
Qin Chao! Chen Xin searched her memory for the name, and indeed, it was familiar.
"What a coincidence! I had a classmate with the same name, Qin Chao," Chen Xin exclaimed excitedly. Could they be the same person?
But upon closer examination, she realized they were not alike. Chen Xin's memory of some college classmates was a bit fuzzy, but she vaguely remembered that Qin Chao had been chubby. The man in front of her was mature and stylish, clearly a different person.
"It is indeed a coincidence," said Qin Chao. If it were any other time, he might have flirted with the beauty in front of him. But now, he needed to replenish his strength and heal his wounds.
"If fate allows, we'll meet again," said Qin Chao. With that, he left Chen Xin alone on the deck and waved goodbye as he headed back to the cabin.
Chen Xin was a bit dumbfounded. She had been left aside by a man? If word got out, her fans would surely tear that man apart! How could anyone reject her? It was unbelievable!
Chen Xin couldn't believe what had just happened, but Qin Chao had indeed walked away. That rotten man! She couldn't help but want to curse him, vowing to take revenge if she ever saw him again.
Qin Chao had no idea what was going through the girl's mind. He found the dining hall, ate some food, and then hid in an empty cabin to heal his wounds. He fully mobilized the energy within his body to counteract the poison.
When Qin Chao focused, the poison was no match for him. It quickly dissolved and was expelled from his body. Then, he began to heal the internal injuries he had sustained from the sneak attack by the Tengu shikigami.
The Tengu shikigami was quite powerful, and its strength was impressive. As Qin Chao healed himself using the demon core, he pondered his chances of victory if he were to fight the Tengu.
Even if its power was greater than his own, Qin Chao wouldn't be afraid. At the moment, he could summon three Nine Nether creatures, including the third-level Nine Nether Evil Tiger. The two broken horn swords he had could serve as offerings for the fourth-level Nine Nether Black Bull. These swords contained the essence of the black bull spirit from Mang Mountain, making them suitable as offerings.
Unfortunately, all of this was contingent on cultivating the fourth flame. Currently, Qin Chao had one possible direction: absorbing the Bodhi Holy Fire from Faxiang or Su Ji. These Bodhi Holy Fire, if absorbed by the Nine Nether Yin Fire, could enable him to reach the fourth level of flame.
Sadly, he couldn't contact Su Ji, nor did he know Faxiang's whereabouts. He remembered the last time he met Su Ji at school; she had told him that her father, Su Xianqin, had arranged for her to study abroad to prevent her from secretly meeting Qin Chao. One day, she would fly to a city in the United States.
Qin Chao resented Su Xianqin for this cunning move. The old man hadn't even disclosed the departure date, making it impossible for Qin Chao to see Su Ji off.
"Damn old man, when I, Qin Chao, make 5 million, I'll throw the money in your face."
Since he couldn't reach Su Ji, his only option was to find Faxiang. However, the stubborn monk would never willingly give up his Bodhi Holy Fire. In that case, Qin Chao would have to resort to some tricks...
When he returned, he would have to meet Li Xue. Since An Qing was a traitor, he would tell her the truth and remind Li Xue to investigate thoroughly when recruiting people. Otherwise, this time it was just against him, which was fine. But if the next time it was against her, nobody could save her.
By the time Qin Chao finished thinking about all this, his injuries had mostly healed.
This was the advantage of having an innate demonic body; once the demon core started working, it was like a powerful healing pill. In the following day, Qin Chao returned to Weilian City on the luxurious King's Cruise, not even eating seafood, and took a night train back to Sunan.
Qin Chao stood at the train station crossing, but with so many people around, it wasn't convenient to take out his trusty 28 bike. Just then, a Santana Jetta taxi suddenly stopped in front of him.
"Hey buddy, need a ride?" the driver asked enthusiastically. "I'm about to finish my shift. Wherever you're going, I won't use the meter and will give you a discount."
"Alright, I'm going to Zhongshan Road, Skyhawk Advertising Company," Qin Chao decided it wasn't a big deal to spend the extra money, so he got in the taxi.
"Ten bucks it is. I'm going to Zhongshan Road to return the car anyway, so it's on my way," the driver said happily and started the car.
Once in the taxi, Qin Chao leaned back in the rear seat and closed his eyes to rest. The thought of having to explain everything to Li Xue gave him a headache, and he worried it might cause her to panic.
Those Japanese were truly everywhere. They had even resorted to these tactics, and who knows what vile schemes they might use in the future. It seemed that Qin Chao needed to find a once-and-for-all solution. Maybe he could go directly to the headquarters of the Black Dragon Society and challenge them?
Qin Chao raised an eyebrow; it wasn't a bad idea. The car's radio played rock music, which Qin Chao initially didn't mind, but he grew increasingly agitated.
"Master, could you please switch to some light music or something?" Qin Chao opened his eyes and suggested. To his surprise, he realized the car was now in the suburbs, nowhere near Skyhawk Company!
Not good, he'd been tricked again!
"Stop the car!" Qin Chao coldly ordered. The driver didn't say a word and kept driving, completely unfazed.
"I said stop the car!" Qin Chao's anger flared, and he pulled out the Evil King Sword. With one sweep, he cut through the front barrier and placed the sword against the driver's neck.
"Hehe... Oh, hahaha..." Unexpectedly, the driver wasn't scared; instead, he started laughing eerily. This sent chills down Qin Chao's spine, and without hesitation, he stabbed the sword into the driver's back from behind the seat.
Something strange happened – the Evil King Sword pierced the driver's back, but not a single drop of blood came out.
