Vol 1 Chapter 31
Kapros inwardly smiled and inserted his right hand into the completed circle. Simultaneously, light burst forth as if a key had been inserted into a lock. The magic circle began to move, centered on his hand.
The image of Detect Magic was search. It was about scattering his magical power to reveal the identity of hidden things. When the magical power found something, the information would appear and be revealed in his mind. He closed his eyes and began to chant the incantation.
"Those hiding in impure crevices, my eyes are the eyes of the mist. Reveal yourselves before me now, Detect Magic!"
The moment the chant ended, an enormous current gushed out from his body, and a circular, glowing blue magic circle was created beneath his feet. Then it immediately began to spread rapidly like a spider web, covering the floor. The current of magical power swirled fiercely around Kapros's body with his eyes closed.
At the same time, information about the space where the magic circle had spread began to enter his mind...
'Huh?'
Suddenly, in the space just beyond what was being drawn in his mind, not even a few meters away, two enormous presences appeared.
'In front?!'
Right in front?!
As Kapros's eyes flew open, the party members also seemed to see the enemies revealed on the magic circle in front, as they began to shout.
"There are two!"
"What's going on! Two of them?!"
"Dodge!"
The silhouettes of two enemies of enormous size were illuminated, and they launched their attack as soon as they were revealed. Kapros, who had been casting Detect Magic at the very front, made the mistake of standing there blankly in shock for a moment.
"Aah! Dodge!"
The sound of screaming from behind, as if warning of danger, reached his ears unfamiliarly.
'Ah...'
The liquid that had melted and killed the priest earlier was flying towards his face...
Kapros couldn't even move his mouth, leaving the disappearing magic circle behind. His mind was in complete disarray due to the sudden discovery.
"What are you doing?!"
In the moment when he couldn't think of anything, someone embraced him and leapt with a tremendous shout. As soon as they hit the ground with a thud, his breath, which had stopped in surprise, returned.
"Gasp..."
"If you saw it, you should have canceled it and dodged right away, why are you standing there like an idiot!"
The one who had embraced and dodged with Kapros was Yu-wan, the swordsman who had shown no change in emotion until now. Before Kapros could be surprised by this, Yu-wan sprang up with lightning speed. This was because small monsters that had been hiding around the two boss monsters, over 3 meters tall, began to swarm in droves as soon as the attack failed. Only then could Kapros properly confirm the forms of the two large creatures.
Judging by their appearance, one was a giant skeleton, and the other was a giant rotting corpse. The names floating above their heads were [Lord Skeleton] and [Giant Tribe's Lord Ghoul]. Seeing this, Coolt's panting voice could be heard shouting from behind.
"A Lord Ghoul?! I've never heard of such a thing!"
"Let's deal with the ones swarming in first!"
Kapros also got up and immediately began launching Fireballs.
"Fireball!"
As he summoned ten small ones simultaneously, his legs momentarily staggered, perhaps because he had never used so much magical power so urgently before. But there was no time. He expended his mental strength all at once and sent all ten flying in rotation.
"Groooo-!"
Immediately, with a series of booms, monster screams began to erupt from all around. The situation devolved into a melee where everyone had to protect themselves.
"Fireball!"
Kapros began to defend himself from the monsters rushing at him from all sides by incessantly firing 1st circle spells while drawing his right and left swords for the first time. It was painful with his attention divided, but he could still endure. When he got a moment to look around, he noticed that Alsina, the thief, was nowhere to be seen. It seemed she had died after the loud scream from behind earlier. Coolt and Ashul, fighting nearby, also looked like they would die soon from their severe injuries. Kapros himself hadn't completely avoided damage either; his clothes were pierced in various places, and he was bleeding from wounds inflicted by body fluids and skeleton bones.
"Magic Shield! Magic Shield! Magic Shield!"
Taking advantage of a brief moment when the surrounding monsters were cleared, he quickly wrapped himself in three layers of 3rd circle Magic Shield. It was weak, but should provide some defense. He thought it was really fortunate that he had trained Magic Shield to over 80% proficiency where it didn't require an incantation. Kapros had lied about being a 3rd circle mage when joining the party, so originally he should have used 3rd circle magic with incantations, but there was no time for such proper behavior when life was hanging in the balance.
"Fire Wall!"
Whoosh!
After surrounding himself completely with Fire Wall in a radius of about 2 meters, he could finally catch his breath.
Looking through the gaps, it seemed that most of the monsters were being cleared out now. The person cutting down monsters like slicing radishes at the front was Yu-wan. As four or five monsters rushed at him, he raised his sword vertically, drenched in body fluids, and activated a skill for the first time.
"Storm Thrust!"
The moment he swung his sword, which had turned blue, while spinning around once with one foot as the axis, all the monsters caught in the tremendous gale of currents collapsed, shredded by what seemed like sword energy. Kapros frowned at the ear-splitting noise, then quickly looked ahead, sensing a dangerous aura. It seemed that now that their minion monsters had been mostly dealt with, the bosses were about to take action in earnest.
With a series of booming sounds, Kapros saw the monsters approaching rapidly and canceled his Fire Wall, retreating backward. Yu-wan was also running back quickly, and lastly, Coolt, who had survived but was in tatters, could be seen panting as he ran. Kapros's magical power was now only about half remaining. For the first time since starting Mist, he thought he might die. Well, with two bosses, it would be more impressive not to die here.
But Yu-wan, still looking at the monsters with cold eyes, shouted:
"I'll take the lead, use magic with as much damage as possible from behind!"
