Vol 2 Chapter 15
Kapros sat in a chair with a towel draped over his head, water still dripping from his hair after finishing his shower.
"Computer, connect to the internet."
[Monitor booting on. Connected.]
Along with the computer's immediate response, a large screen appeared. Ignoring the numerous news items floating across the screen, Kapros spoke again.
"Go to THE MIST official homepage."
[THE MIST official homepage. 1 result found in bookmarks. Connecting. 2, 1.]
When the monitor, which had flickered with a flash, turned on again, the screen now displayed the main page of THE MIST homepage.
[THE MIST ~ Episode 3. The Return of Memories]
This was precisely why Kapros had connected to the homepage. He examined the title "The Return of Memories" and then clicked on the notice first.
[Notice: Episode 3. The Return of Memories has begun. (Video) - 07.11.26]
THE MIST Episode 3. The Return of Memories has been newly updated.
First, we would like to inform you that unlike Episodes 1 and 2, there are no new updates within the game itself.
However, starting with Episode 3, THE MIST's main story will begin in earnest, and you may find yourselves at the center of it.
The fate of the Mist continent depends on the choices of you, our users.
It was a brief notice. But for Kapros, it was incredibly exciting content.
'Finally, the main story episode is starting...'
With a pounding heart, Kapros played the video attached below. The video expanded to fill the entire screen, and like watching a movie, the screen darkened before brightening again.
What appeared was a dark plain. Filling it, crawling like insects, were undead monsters. Their eerie cries mixed with the grand background music.
-Graaah!
-Gruk, grrruk.
And a man watching them from atop a cliff. As the camera's gaze approached the man who was boldly looking down at the swarming monsters, Kapros drew in a breath.
'Why is that person there?'
The man displayed before him was none other than Kion-hyung, who had been traveling with Kapros until a few months ago before leaving to perform his quest, and hadn't been heard from since!
Although the time his full face was captured on screen was very brief, there was no way Kapros could mistake the face he had seen for so long. The windswept faded blonde hair, the white priestly robe covered in red patterns, the firmly clenched fist. Everything was exactly the same as before.
Kapros was dumbfounded. His mind became confused, unable to understand why Kion-hyung was appearing in the opening video of the new episode. However, regardless of his confusion, the camera was dynamically rotating, focusing on Kion-hyung. Seen like this, it looked more like a pre-prepared character video than a living person.
After frowning and muttering something for a moment, Kion-hyung soon leaped from the cliff towards the monsters swarming below in unfathomable blackness, as if performing a bungee jump. At that moment, the blue moon veiled by the mist in the sky overlapped, creating an intensely fantastical feeling.
'Won't he die if he jumps from a place like that?'
What on earth was he trying to do?
Just as Kapros, shocked once again by Kion-hyung throwing himself off the cliff, clenched his fist tightly, Kion-hyung, showing no sign of fear, spun once in mid-air and shouted loudly for the first time amidst the growing background music.
[Time that has returned beyond death, against the natural order!]
At that moment, the screen slowed down, and an enormous red light began to form and gather in both of Kion-hyung's fists.
[The goddess of the battlefield punishes you.]
As the gathering lights increased explosively, in an instant, they became a massive ball of light, so large that Kion-hyung's figure could no longer be seen.
"Ah...!"
Kapros swallowed a groan as he watched. It was an exclamation born from having controlled magic similarly himself. Although it seemed a bit different from his case, it was an indescribably grand and magnificent sight.
Kion-hyung's expression, as he continued to fall slowly as if flying through the air, was filled with a determination that Kapros had never seen before.
[Skaga, this is the proof of the divine, my demonstration.]
Skaga. At that familiar yet trembling resonance, Kapros unknowingly smiled. The light had now grown so large it looked almost like another sun, completely obscuring Kion-hyung's figure at its center.
The undead monsters gathered on the ground also seemed terrified by it and began to turn and flee, but it was already too late. Kion-hyung's faint form within the light opened his eyes wide and shouted loudly.
[Darkness! Taste hell, and return to the pure earth!]
Kwaaaaah!
The surroundings, which had been moving slowly, began to speed up again. Kion-hyung, with both fists raised high, fell like an arrow as if to shatter the earth. The reversing wind and the ball of light painfully tangled together. Like a falling meteor with a long tail of light behind him, Kion-hyung completed the final incantation with tremendous speed and power.
[Innocence Ground!]
The ball of light collided with the ground with a deafening roar. Scenes of the black-swarming monsters flailing and being consumed by the light, turning to ash and flying away, could be seen.
Kapros's surprise was beyond words.
'To think such a skill exists...'
He couldn't even begin to guess how many circles of magic it would take to produce such power. Long after the screams and the earthquake-like vibrations of the ground had subsided, Kapros almost stood up without realizing it. Kion-hyung was kneeling on one knee, still in the pose of extending his fist to the ground, and in a wide circular area centered on him, all life forms had disappeared, leaving nothing.
Fortunately, the remaining undead that had escaped the range of that circle hesitated for a moment, but seeing Kion-hyung not moving, they began to swarm in again like a pack of dogs.
-Kraaaah!
Perhaps because they had suffered an absurd annihilation once, the undead, with their anger doubled, rushed towards the central figure in black swarms.
At the moment when Kapros's heart was beating so fast he almost forgot he was watching a video, Kion-hyung quickly stood up. His two eyes were shining brightly. He kept shouting something, but it couldn't be heard clearly over the music. Kion-hyung, his body still imbued with red light, leaped towards the monsters.
