Vol 2 Chapter 19

The second magic he would challenge next was Inferno. Currently, only the description "flames of hell" was visible, so it seemed he would need to master Blink to know the details. The third and final one was Blizzard, which, like Inferno, had no information other than a one-line description of "storm of ice." It seemed that these two attack spells would be formidable from the start, and he was already looking forward to them.

"I see something in the distance again."

At that moment, Yu-wan, who had been looking into the distance, stood up and spoke sharply.

"Is it Kalaps again? Or..."

"...It's fast."

"What?"

Yu-wan suddenly grasped his scabbard. Sensing something was amiss from this unusual reaction, Kapros put away his book and stood up, seeing something approaching with tremendous momentum, kicking up a dust cloud in the distance. It was faster than any monster they had seen so far.

"What's going on, why are you... Huh?"

As even Kapros's expression changed, Kran seemed to sense something was wrong and stood up, then drew in his breath with a surprised face.

"What is that?"

They moved away from the tree and took up attack positions. Soon after, the enemy clearly revealed itself with the sound of the ground rumbling.

"That's..."

'Is it a Giant Kalap?'

What Kapros momentarily thought of was close to the correct answer.

"Kalap Titan. The boss monster of the Parm Plains."

Kran said as he drew his sword.

"It's so strong that no community has posted proper strategy information about it yet. Even if the three of us attacked now, it would be hard to say for certain that we could defeat it. I heard it usually appears much further away, but to encounter it here..."

"Hmm..."

Yu-wan let out a pensive groan as he listened to Kran's confused words.

The Kalap Titan looked exactly like the ordinary brown Kalaps they had been killing like radishes, but it was several times larger and ominously black in color. Moreover, it wasn't alone, with smaller red Kalaps accompanying it.

"Don't tell me this is... a curse for killing too many Kalaps?!"

Kran said something nonsensical while glaring at the Kalap Titan with bated breath.

The monster didn't seem to have recognized them immediately and was wandering around quite far away.

"It doesn't seem to have noticed us yet."

As Kapros muttered quietly, Yu-wan and Kran nodded in agreement.

"This is our only chance. Let's flee while staying out of its sight, taking a wide detour."

It would be good if they could do as Kran said, but the problem was that the plains had no suitable obstacles to hide behind while circling around. Kapros quickly spoke up, grateful for the information he had looked up in advance to roughly calculate their schedule to Zagreb.

"I heard that if we go a bit further from here, the plains end and there's a mountain with a forest path. Once we cross that, we'll be in Zagreb. I think we'll be fine if we can just reach the foot of the mountain."

"Really? Then..."

After much deliberation, they decided to carefully circle around the Kalap Titan.

"I'll take the lead!"

As soon as Kran spoke energetically, Yu-wan replied, "Then I'll take the rear."

Kapros was dumbfounded by how quickly the two had decided their positions as if to protect him, but as a mage with significantly less stamina than the swordsmen, he couldn't take the front or rear of the group.

"Kap. You're a mage, so even one solid physical hit could be fatal. So if that thing charges at us, just run forward no matter what. Got it?"

Despite knowing that Kapros now had Blink, a cheat-level evasion technique, Kran's concern remained unchanged from before. He was such a foolishly kind guy, it was hard to tell who was worrying about whom.

"Alright then. Let's move sideways. Quietly, about 500 meters."

One of the unspoken rules that had developed between them after overcoming numerous crises was to follow Kran's lead in emergencies. Kapros was not only incapable of leading others but even struggled with just interacting with them, and Yu-wan seemed like he wouldn't do it even if he could. On the other hand, Kran, true to his righteous character, was the type to leap forward first and lead the rest when the group was in danger.

But this rule wasn't established implicitly for that reason alone. Although Kran didn't seem very reliable usually, his judgment in emergencies was surprisingly accurate. It wasn't just good luck; looking back, his choices were always so appropriate that it was admirable. This was also what made Kapros see Kran in a new light.

As they moved sideways, keeping as low as possible to avoid being noticed by the boss monster, Kran looked around seriously. His usually bright expression was replaced by a sharp gaze.

"Kap. Which direction exactly is that mountain?"

"That way."

Kran nodded after carefully examining the direction Kapros pointed to and started moving forward. Kapros and Yu-wan also tried to follow as carefully as possible, but the problem was that they didn't realize the Kalaps' field of vision was wider than they thought.

Suddenly, a commotion started over there, and when they looked, they saw several of the red Kalaps that were closer to them bounding towards them.

"Oh no, run!"

Kran shouted as he started running. Without further ado, Kapros shouted loudly towards the area ahead.

"Blink!"

Whoosh!

In an instant, the scenery before his eyes rushed closer, causing dizzying vertigo. Gritting his teeth, Kapros immediately turned around and stretched out his hand towards the red Kalaps fiercely chasing Yu-wan and Kran.

"Screw Fireball!"

No sooner had the words left his mouth than two rotating fireballs shot out like arrows. Seeing this, Yu-wan and Kran quickly ducked their heads and split to either side, but the red Kalaps that couldn't dodge in time were mercilessly hit by the fireballs.

Bang! Bang!

As the flames exploded, the red Kalaps were thrown backward.

'At least we've succeeded in stopping them for now.'

Kapros was watching Yu-wan and Kran run to his side with a sigh of relief when he casually looked further away and felt his breath catch.

"Tsuaaaaa!"

Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud!
