Vol 2 Chapter 29
Kapros heard Kion-hyung urging them. Led by Yu-wan, he arrived at the back of a building.
"Here, here."
Kion-hyung roughly pushed Kran through the back door and then gestured towards them. Yu-wan pushed Kapros inside first, then entered last and slammed the door shut.
As they entered the building, a few people gave them startled looks. Kion-hyung, paying no attention, went upstairs and knocked on a small door.
"Who is it?"
"It's me, you idiot."
As soon as he heard Palton's voice, Kion-hyung kicked the door open and went in without hesitation. He plopped down naturally on the sofa in the room and nodded at them to sit as well. Palton asked glumly.
"What's going on?"
"Because of that bastard."
"Huh?"
Kran, who was pointed at, blinked and asked back.
"What did I do?"
"You, with that annoying face. Answer my questions honestly."
Kran swallowed a groan. Kapros inadvertently smiled and unfortunately made eye contact with Kran. Avoiding Kran's tearful and reproachful gaze that seemed to say "How could you do this too?", Kapros turned his head slightly as Kion-hyung began to speak seriously.
"Are you... a Shine Knight quest performer?"
"What?!"
"What? What are you talking about?"
"..."
The gazes of Kran, who was so surprised he almost jumped out of his seat, Palton, who was bewildered by the sudden situation, and Yu-wan and Kapros, who had their eyes sharply open, all turned to one place simultaneously.
Unlike Kran, who seemed too shocked at being found out to have the leisure to perceive the other's intentions, Kapros wasn't very surprised as he had already expected Kion-hyung to be a quest performer like them when he saw his video. The conversation with Branch Manager Yoon Seok-ho after the second video had also added to that certainty, so it was natural.
Kapros remembered all the background story of this quest that NPC Old Mage Berman had told him in the hidden wizard tower in Torelit. First, there were eight quests in total. The central figures were Lord Superior, which Kapros was progressing, Dark Knight and Shine Knight that Yu-wan and Kran were respectively progressing, and Shadow Knight of Lucrecian whom they had met in Tolang, and there were four more whose names and jobs Kapros only knew.
'Holy Knight, the priest of a forgotten god, Electric Knight who shot arrows, Bloody Knight who was a lion of the battlefield, and lastly Lord Knight, the Knight of the Demon God who appeared in the second video this time.'
Among them, the only quest that could be estimated as the one Kion-hyung was progressing was Holy Knight.
While Kapros was thinking that far, Kion-hyung, seeing Kran's reaction, seemed to be convinced that his words were correct and sighed deeply. But Kion-hyung didn't seem to realize that Kapros and Yu-wan were also quest performers.
Normally, Kapros should have said here that they were also quest performers, but he was still concerned about Kion-hyung's excessively surprised face earlier and the reason why he had hurriedly brought them here as if escaping, which he hadn't heard yet. Usually, one wouldn't react like that just from learning about another quest performer.
Kapros decided to observe the situation a bit more for now.
"I see. ...This has become troublesome."
"Really? The proof? Did you see it?"
"It seems so. I dragged this guy here as he was jumping around and shouting while holding a yellow gem in front of the temple square."
Seeing Palton looking at them with surprised eyes for the first time at Kion-hyung's words, Kran made a troubled expression and turned towards Kapros.
Seeing Kran's mouth opening and closing as if to say 'What's this? Was this something that shouldn't be known?', Kapros carefully opened his mouth.
"Why are you acting like this?"
"Kar. You saw the second video too, right?"
When Kapros nodded silently, Kion-hyung slightly frowned and put his hand to his forehead.
"The quest that the annoying-faced guy next to you is progressing... Originally, this would be a good thing since we've found out about another person progressing the same quest."
Yes. Kapros thought the same. But why now?
"...Kar. Do you remember the quest I left to resolve?"
"Of course."
How could he forget that? As Kapros answered quietly, Kion-hyung smiled slightly.
"To put it simply, that quest turned out to be annoyingly connected to various places. So I haven't been able to resolve it all until now. I was worried that you might still be waiting, so I was so happy to meet you here."
"I waited for two months."
"...Really? ...I thought you would have left right away, knowing you."
As Kapros spoke quietly, Kion-hyung, seemingly surprised and pleased by the unexpected words, smiled and took Kapros's hand.
"Thank you."
Hearing Kion-hyung's warm voice, Kapros suddenly felt strange. A peculiar feeling of warmth filled with trust, mutual belief, and awkwardness that made his chest feel hot. Kapros realized that he hadn't felt such things for a very long time, and that he had even forgotten that he didn't know this fact.
Looking around unfamiliarly, Kapros suddenly felt how much had changed since he started MIST. Kang Mu-heon, who had lost his right leg and been defeated in life, would certainly not have accepted anyone's touch. If it had been him, who was more miserable because he knew he had been defeated, he wouldn't have been able to imagine sitting here, forming various relationships with others again. If it had been him, who only had pride left and was busy avoiding others' eyes...
But now it was different. In MIST, Kapros had become able to take the hand extended to him by others, and he had come to know how satisfying and heartwarming it was to form relationships and interact with others.
During the time he had been cooped up alone at home, Kapros had completely lost confidence in everything. But how was he now? He naturally had the confidence to take for granted that he could surprise many people with just one spell he uttered. Just like the confidence he used to have before others because he believed he had the skills to protect at least his own body.
