Vol 2 Chapter 31
As Kran protested angrily, Palton also let out a groan, "Hmm..." and leaned back comfortably on the sofa, interlocking his fingers behind his head.
"So, you see, right in front of that temple of the healing god is a square. It's always teeming with people. You could say it's the most crowded place in this city, no, in all of MIST."
"And?"
"And in front of such a place, you jumped around holding your proof of quest while I happened to be with Kion. That's the same as asking someone to come kill you. In the current situation, that is."
"What?"
"Do you know why?"
"I don't... know."
It was getting irritating to keep hearing such tantalizing words when he obviously didn't know. Palton held up one finger in front of Kran's face, swept his gaze over everyone looking at him, and then spoke in a secretive and playful tone.
"Because Zagreb is now the most dangerous place for us. In this city, besides us three, there's the eighth quest performer, who's the most dangerous."
"The eighth...?"
Kapros looked to the side at the low muttering voice. Yu-wan was slightly frowning, lost in thought.
"I don't know if you're aware, but that eighth one refers to the Knight of the Demon God quest performer, who's connected as an enemy in all of our quests."
"And currently, the largest guild in Zagreb also belongs to that great eighth guy. Get it? This city is practically crawling with our enemies right now."
Kion-hyung continued Palton's words as if to say, "Do you understand now?" Kapros understood the meaning of those words and thought that he could now speak without further conflict about what he had been pondering until just a moment ago.
"Wait. I have something to say."
Kapros opened his mouth stiffly, looking straight into Palton's eyes. Was it his imagination that he saw a flash of something in Palton's seemingly thoughtless eyes for a moment?
"What is it?"
Hoping that Kion-hyung wouldn't be too shocked by what he was about to say, Kapros slowly took a breath.
"Actually, I'm also a quest performer like Kran. The same goes for Yu-wan here."
"..."
"...Huh?"
As soon as the words ended, the room suddenly fell silent. After a while, Kion-hyung's confused response was heard.
"Uh, Kar, what did you say?"
Instead of answering, Kapros watched Palton. He was slowly nodding with an amused expression. At the same time, a flame-like energy flickered in his red eyes.
"I thought so. ...So you're Superior?"
"I thought so," he said. Indeed, he wasn't someone to be taken lightly just by looking at his actions.
Kapros chuckled and nodded. Then Palton turned his searching gaze to Yu-wan.
"Then you are?"
"Dark Knight."
At Yu-wan's brief answer, Palton smiled, showing his teeth.
"This is interesting."
"Wait a minute! So all five people here now are related to that damn quest?"
As Kion-hyung jumped up and shouted, Kran, who had been wearing a puzzled expression for a while, asked Kion-hyung with a look of incomprehension.
"Excuse me, but didn't you already know that Kap and the Black Swordsman were quest performers?"
"How would I know!"
As Kion-hyung shouted angrily, Palton gestured for him to sit down.
"You're being noisy. Sit down and talk."
"Do I look like I can sit? This place has just become the most dangerous spot in MIST!"
"On the contrary, it's also the safest. Sit down."
"So I'm saying now...!"
Thud!
Palton tripped Kion-hyung, who was about to shout something, making him fall back onto the sofa. Then he turned to look at them with a completely different gaze than before.
"I guess only fools hadn't noticed. I can roughly guess why you didn't speak up first, so that's fine. The important thing is that Kion and I have already met the eighth quest performer, and as a result, my Giant guild and his guild have become enemy guilds. Now, if someone from their guild who was in the square saw what that foolish Shine Knight did... No. They probably already saw, so there will likely be some action soon. Hmm... Their vice guild master is annoying."
After thinking for a moment while stroking his chin, Palton soon spoke again.
"You. You're not done with your business in Zagreb yet, right?"
When he asked Kran, Kran nodded with a stiff expression.
"Then we have no choice but to have you finish your business first and leave Zagreb as quickly as possible."
Palton, who had come to this conclusion on his own, stood up abruptly.
"I suppose I can assume that you're all skilled enough to progress this far in the quest?"
Yu-wan was the first to react to the dangerous smile.
"I'd like to return those words to you."
"Hahaha, my skills are more than just 'good enough'."
As Palton immediately went into self-praise as if he had never been serious, Kion-hyung, who had been behind the sofa, sprang up like lightning and struck Palton's back.
"Keck, why are you hitting me again?"
"If you're done talking, all three of you get out. I have something to say to Kar."
"Why? This is my guild. If anyone should leave, it should be you..."
"Do you want to get hit and leave, or just leave? I said it's just for a moment."
"..."
Kion-hyung, who had silenced the rebellious Palton with a single word, began to mercilessly push the others, except for Kapros, out the door.
"Why are you suddenly doing this? What do you have to say to Kap..."
"I have a lot to say to Kar, whom I haven't seen in a long time. So get out."
Kion-hyung frowned and retorted to the dumbfounded Kran.
"No, more than that, I've been wanting to ask, why do you call him Kar instead of Kap? Kap is Kap, but you're just arbitrarily... Whoa!"
Kion-hyung kicked Kran's buttocks with a loud thud as he resisted being pushed out, and shouted.
"It's because it's cuter, it's my choice, you brat! I'm the only one allowed to call him that, so don't even think about it, you other guys!"
"K-Kap? Really? What's that... Ack!"
After a long struggle, Kran was finally kicked out, and Yu-wan, who was left alone, silently looked into Kapros's eyes.
