Vol 2 Chapter 60

However, even though Kapros had said he would face him, he couldn't engage in a direct confrontation with Caesar, as he hadn't even properly mastered Superior's swordsmanship skill yet. The important thing here was that the goal was only to achieve Kran's quest, not to defeat Caesar.

Just enough. They only needed to be able to escape without getting hurt.

To do that, they needed to use their advantage in numbers and give that overly confident guy a taste of his own medicine.

"...Yu-wan."

Kapros spoke in a low voice to Yu-wan while still facing Caesar. Yu-wan nodded without moving.

"Blocking him head-on. Is it possible?"

Only Yu-wan could directly block Caesar, who was said to have Sword Mastery at an advanced level or higher. Yu-wan's shoulders trembled slightly at the question. When Kapros looked at him curiously, he saw a face with a pleasant yet fierce smile.

"..."

It was literally fierce. It was completely different from the faint smiles he had shown before or the grins that looked like a tamed beast.

'Oh no, did he get angry because I treated him too lightly?'

Just as Kapros was about to open his mouth to apologize with a somewhat embarrassed feeling, Yu-wan suddenly lowered his sword hilt and turned completely towards him, gently placing his hand on Kapros's cheek hidden inside the hood. Kapros could feel both Kran and Caesar looking this way with strange expressions at this sudden action. Yu-wan ignored those gazes and spoke.

"Even without you asking, if you say so, I'd even kill him. I have that much strength."

"...Hey, you idiot! What are you doing right now!"

Kran, who had finally come to his senses, shouted angrily, but Yu-wan calmly waited for Kapros's answer. Kapros shook his head.

"There's no need for that. That's not the goal."

"Then what."

As if understanding the hidden meaning in Kapros's words, Yu-wan quietly agreed.

"...Retreat when I signal."

Without even hearing the details, Yu-wan nodded and raised his sword emitting a blue aura with a pleased expression. Yu-wan charged without hesitation, and as Caesar parried the sword he swung down, there was an explosive sound of aura swords clashing. Light fragments scattered wildly between the blades, repeatedly brightening and dimming the gloomy cave.

"I suppose you want me to face you first instead of that arrogant guy?"

When Caesar asked, Yu-wan forcefully pushed Caesar's sword away with his own. Sharp metallic sounds rang out continuously due to the instantaneous exchange of sword strikes. Caesar parried all of Yu-wan's strong attacks without giving an inch. Kapros could see Caesar smiling slightly amidst the flashing aura light.

That face... based on Kapros's memory of being friends for a long time, it was an expression of enjoying meeting a worthy opponent after a long time. Yu-wan's face was icy cold and sharp, with no trace of his earlier smile.

Feeling that he might lose control of himself again if he kept watching Caesar wielding his sword, Kapros looked away and quickly whispered to Kran, grabbing him.

"Yu-wan will block him from the front, and I'll buy time from the side. You try to recall the path we've come so far and find the point where the monsters started to weaken again. Also, please take care of any monsters that might appear from behind."

"What? But..."

"You're the one who needs to complete the quest. If you die fighting here, all our efforts to come this far will be in vain. I won't drag this out long, so just think about the path carefully."

Originally, Kapros had planned to stop there. But worried that Kran might unnecessarily think they were in danger because of him, as he tightly gripped his sword emitting white light, Kapros added one more thing.

"This is nothing compared to how much you've helped me until now."

After all, Kapros quite liked Kran's straightforward personality.

Only then did Kran finally relax his grip on the sword and smile, and Kapros turned around. Then, watching the blue trajectories clashing without a moment's pause, he recalled the image and drew up his magical power.

There was no need to show everything, but he should certainly give him a taste of one good hit.

"Fireball."

Whoosh!

Dozens of fireballs appeared in front of Kapros. Feeling the surroundings brighten instantly, he cast another spell.

"Flame Strike."

Whoosh!

About 20 red spheres instantly appeared among the fireballs. Although the Flame Strikes were smaller and looked more like real balls than the fireballs, they were both fire-based magic, so when mixed together, it was hard to distinguish between them.

After mixing them appropriately, Kapros slowly began to control them. His intensely cold mind and sharp vision worked like a computer, assessing the distance and range in front of him. After a moment, he sent the fireballs and Flame Strikes flying towards Caesar. Yu-wan and Caesar, who had been fighting each other, both paused briefly at the same time.

"This is..."

"Where are you looking?"

The moment Caesar narrowed his eyes to identify the nature of the magic surrounding them, Yu-wan, who had briefly glanced towards Kapros, launched another fierce attack to interfere. It was a good offensive move to not give any spare time.

I like it, Yu-wan. Kapros sent an inaudible praise in his mind and slowly started to spin the fireballs and Flame Strikes surrounding them. At first slowly, and finally so fast that it looked like they were wrapped in a band of fire, the speed of the two men slowed down compared to before, as if their vision had become dizzy.

And seizing that opportunity, a few fireballs that Kapros had designated slipped out of the spinning magic and quickly collided with Caesar.

Pop pop bang!

However, while they made Caesar pause for a moment, they didn't inflict much damage. Roughly speaking, it seemed best to assume that magic below 3rd circle wouldn't work at all against that level of magic defense.

Caesar frowned as if annoyed and tried to say something while looking towards Kapros, but he couldn't achieve his intention due to Yu-wan pressing him again. Watching Yu-wan's dark blue hair and Caesar's silver hair constantly intertwining was like looking at Go stones.

'Interesting.'

Thinking that, Kapros turned around for a moment and heard Kran muttering something while tearing at his hair.

'...'
