Vol 3 Chapter 45

#(3)

The moment Kapros approached the place where Caesar had disappeared, he stopped abruptly at a sight that made him doubt his eyes.

There were two people there, their swords locked against each other. One was, of course, Caesar who had just vanished, but the person on the opposite side had their face obscured by a wide-hooded cloak. The sound of two blades clashing echoed with a "ka-ka-ka-kak."

"This is..."

The moment Kapros unknowingly opened his mouth while staring at the two blades, both figures' movements froze. More precisely, when the one who had been pushing their sword against Caesar's suddenly stopped, Caesar also halted. The robed opponent was frozen like ice.

Kapros saw Caesar glance his way before turning his head back to his opponent.

"What shall we do?"

Caesar muttered softly, breaking the momentary silence. His voice was cold and mocking. As soon as those words were spoken, the agitated opponent pushed away the sword, stepped back, and suddenly began running towards Kapros, taking a roundabout route.

'What...'

Just as Kapros was about to shout "Blink" in response to the incredible speed of the figure rushing towards him with a lowered stance, the opponent's face was suddenly revealed from inside the robe as they straightened up while approaching.

'This can't be'

Kapros's eyes widened in surprise at the same moment the opponent grabbed and pulled him along. For an instant, his eyes met Caesar's again, but the guy was watching expressionlessly with his sword lowered, seemingly having no intention of pursuing. That image gradually receded into the distance.

"Flame Strike!"

Whoosh!

At first, Kapros was too surprised to do anything but be dragged along, but after gathering his thoughts and seeing that the other person had no intention of stopping even after a long time, he mercilessly imagined fireballs towards his captor.

As the spheres of fire spread out and menacingly surrounded them, the guy finally stopped.

"Let go of my arm first."

The hand that seemed reluctant to release him finally loosened when Kapros applied pressure once more. Suppressing his anger, Kapros glared directly at the other's face.

"...Take that off too."

The guy stood silently for a moment, then raised one hand to pull aside the hood he was wearing. The garment that had been wrapped around his body tensed for a moment before coming off with a soft thud.

A familiar head and blue eyes were revealed in the soft darkness.

It was Kapros's first reunion with Yu-wan since leaving Zagreb.

"..."

It felt like it had been an incredibly long time since they had faced each other like this.

While Kapros was noting the changes, including unfamiliar armor and gauntlets, Yu-wan was also staring intently at him. Noticing this, Kapros withdrew the Flame Strike and mentally imaged an auxiliary spell he hadn't felt the need to use until now.

The effect that could be obtained through this magic was an increase in strength. It was a spell that temporarily boosted the power of physical attacks.

"Strength!"

Pop! Whoosh...

As soon as Kapros spoke aloud, a bright light burst forth as if it had been waiting, enveloping his body lightly before fading away. Yu-wan's eyes blinked at the unexpected incantation.

"Yu-wan!"

"...Yes."

When Kapros called out as if to confirm, a slightly delayed response followed.

Immediately, Kapros raised his fist and punched Yu-wan in the jaw.

Thwack!

"..."

Yu-wan's head turned so severely that even Kapros, who had thrown the punch, was a bit surprised. Yu-wan staggered back a couple of steps. Oh, this was more effective than Kapros had thought. One corner of his mouth twisted upwards, but honestly, he wasn't in a mood to smile.

Yu-wan looked at Kapros with a hand on his struck jaw, but quickly lowered his gaze at Kapros's fierce glare. It was an attitude that tacitly admitted he deserved it. Kapros smiled as he swung his other hand as well.

"I trust it's okay if I hit you some more."

After that, Kapros beat Yu-wan repeatedly, even recasting the spell whenever it wore off. Yu-wan silently endured it all without a word.

Kapros had thought he was decent enough at fighting not to get beaten up anywhere, but even in the world of MIST where pain was reduced, seeing Yu-wan's expression remain largely unchanged made his anger surge even more.

No matter how much he hit, apart from the first blow, there was no sign of real impact, to the point where Kapros himself was nearing exhaustion. At that moment, Yu-wan raised his lowered head for the first time and met Kapros's eyes.

"That should be enough now..."

"I suppose so."

"..."

At the compliant response, Yu-wan's eyes momentarily changed to a puzzled expression, as if he had spoken knowing Kapros had expended a lot of energy. But Kapros simply raised one hand quietly.

"Lightning."

Zap! Crackle!

Kapros smiled refreshingly as he watched Yu-wan's gaze fix on the blue electricity that immediately wrapped around him with a tingling sensation.

"I still have plenty of mana left. Should I do Kran's share too?"

Indeed, those words seemed enough to cause a subtle change in Yu-wan's expression, which had remained stoic while being hit. Just as Kapros raised his hand without hesitation to strike, Yu-wan suddenly bent deeply at the waist.

"I'm sorry."

"..."

The hand raised in the air suddenly stopped.

"I was wrong."

When Kapros didn't say anything, Yu-wan continued speaking.

"I thought you'd be angry, but if you do any more, it'll be hard on you. Later, when you feel better..."

"You thought?"

Kapros asked, barely restraining his clenched fist from moving to hit again out of disbelief. He saw the bowing figure nod slightly.

"Why am I?"

"Because even though I didn't die then, I couldn't come find you again."

He not only admitted that he hadn't died, but also that he hadn't come to find Kapros. However, Kapros frowned at the word "couldn't" used there.

"What do you mean?"

"I can't say more than this. I'm sorry."

This bastard...?

"I hope you're not trying to play games with me now."
