Vol 3 Chapter 59

As Un-o spoke with furrowed brows, Kran replied, "Maybe we should..." When they re-entered the square they had circled several times, what caught Kapros's eye was the noticeably emptier square compared to earlier in the day, and the figure of the bard sitting at the base of the statue of the maiden with clasped hands in the center.

"Uh... that man...?"

Kran also seemed to have noticed, making a puzzled sound, but soon turned his head abruptly to look at Kapros and Un-o, as if he had thought of something.

"That's it! We'll probe that guy one more time!"

"What?"

"The beginning and end are connected! Let's go!"

Without answering Kapros's question, Kran ran ahead, and Kapros and Un-o had to hurry their steps to follow him, not knowing what was going on. Kapros wondered if this would only evolve his hiking-related skills.

In the early stages when he first started MIST, Kapros's hiking skill, which he had gained from walking a lot, had changed to a passive skill called [High Roader] during the time he walked to Bala Monyak with Kran. Thanks to this, even when walking and running with guys like Kran or Un-o who had jobs with better physical abilities than him, he no longer lagged behind noticeably like before. However, that was only 'not noticeably different' when running to a certain extent; when running for his life like when chased by Caesar in Bala before, it was inevitable that he would be slower.

As soon as Kran reached the bard, he shouted loudly.

"Excuse me, aren't you the one who sang at the restaurant earlier?"

The bard, who seemed startled by the loud voice, raised his head and looked over Kapros and Un-o standing behind before slowly nodding.

"Yes, that's right, but..."

"Actually, I was very impressed by your song earlier. I heard that it's about this village's legend. Do you happen to know a lot about that legend?"

The moment those words ended, Kapros saw the bard's teal eyes suddenly look at Kran as if he had just noticed him anew. His gaze was directed towards Kran's golden gauntlet, which had a faint golden tinge but usually didn't shine much and looked more like copper.

"I just... know a little."

"Then, could you perhaps sing another song for us, besides the one from earlier?"

The bard hesitated for a moment at Kran's forceful tone.

"Well... Songs are like my life, so I don't mind singing, but..."

Kran's eyes began to sparkle relentlessly.

"Then, do you perhaps know a legendary song about Paladin Dignity?"

"Even if not that legend... I do know a song about Paladin Dignity."

The bard answered calmly despite Kran's aggressive momentum.

"Oh! I'd love to hear it even just once... Ah! Do you need a fee for listening? Oh no. I forgot about that."

"No need. If you enjoyed my song that I play as my hands guide me, there's no need for money. If we become a relationship of giving and receiving compensation, we can't have a relationship shared only by heart."

As the bard waved his hand, Kran awkwardly replied, "Um... I see." The bard then stood up, bowed his head lightly towards them, and sat comfortably leaning against the statue, placing his fingers on the strings of his instrument.

"I'm not sure if my voice will come out properly since this is sudden... but this song is thought to be one of the legends of Paladin Dignity."

After clearing his throat, unexpectedly heavy music flowed from his fingertips, and he began to sing.

"Knight of Lugh. Paladin of high renown in the skies.

When darkness covered the heavens, the Paladin threw himself

Into the black battlefield, with shining silver armor,

Golden gauntlets, and the sword of Ruin.

O sword shining with glory! O courage that cuts through darkness!

The goddess's blessing, towards where the shining sword tip points,

Advancing and advancing, finally reaching

Where the black dragon stood firm.

O sword shining with glory! O pride that cuts through darkness!

But the Paladin's side was already strewn with too many fallen stars

When he finally met the black warrior.

On the day when ten moons and ten suns rise.

Four stars fall to the earth as tears

And divine righteousness fades like crimson petals

At the moment even the branch of the Majae tree breaks, the silver Luigina

Became the eleventh moon, becoming the light of the world.

Ah, brave Paladin of the goddess!

Even the sword of Ruin broken, armor shattered by venomous breath

His wounded body finally threw itself for his Luigina.

O flower, O sword, cling endlessly, fleetingly to the sword's tip

O Luigina, your name is sacrifice.

Bloom fully on the earth sprinkled with silver blood drops, and shout your glory to the skies."

After the song ended with the final cry, a momentary silence lingered, leaving an afterglow. From the moment he heard the lyrics, what instinctively came to Kapros's mind was the legend of the Seven Heroes. Glancing slightly, he saw that Kran and Un-o also seemed to be seriously thinking about something.

'Was the Paladin Dignity in the song the Shine Knight...?'

As the outline of the situation was finally starting to become clear to Kapros, Kran stepped forward beside him.

"That was amazing. We got to hear a truly wonderful song."

"It's nothing. I merely expressed what I know through my voice."

As the bard smiled faintly, Kran shook his head.

"You're too modest. But there's one more thing I'd like to ask."

"What is it?"

"Both earlier and now, I don't know much about the stories contained in the songs you sang. The same goes for Paladin Dignity... Even if it's just a little, could we hear about it if you know anything?"

To Kran's expectant question, the bard nodded willingly.

"That's fine. The songs I sang are a kind of legendary ballad, so I can explain their original form to you."

After smiling once more at Kran, whose face lit up as he nodded vigorously, the bard began to tell the story contained in the song he knew, adding some interpretation.
