Vol 5 Chapter 56
"You're being too cautious. Remove your hands and look around. How is it? Is it better now?"
At those words, Kapros slowly removed his fingers and turned his gaze elsewhere. He widened his eyes at the spectacle before him, which had changed 180 degrees.
The world in front of him was no longer filled with darkness and unknown. Although he could tell it was still dark, he could perceive everything as clearly as if it were broad daylight. Even the colors were visible, not just the shapes. It was then that Kapros realized what he had thought was a wall and had been touching all this time was actually the coiled tail of a massive creature with a dark red color.
A gigantic being was crouched inside the endlessly wide cave. A static and enormous energy, as if a mountain or sea were standing before him, pressed heavily on his head. As he stared for a long time, unable to take his eyes off it, Superior's voice finally broke the silence and pounded in his head.
[ You. ]
"You? Why earlier..."
[ When talking to them, I'd like you not to mention my existence. ]
"What?"
[ Please make sure to do that. I'm asking you. ]
"What are you saying?"
Kapros called out to Superior several times at these inexplicable words, but he once again refused to answer and remained silent.
'Damn it!'
He didn't know what Superior wanted him to do. Not knowing the situation or the identity of the other party, and seeing the supposed helper imposing a gag order about himself and disappearing, made Kapros's blood boil, but he tried hard not to show it on his face.
As Kapros struggled to suppress the urge to break the Superior stick, the red-haired man approached him with a grin.
"You still look confused. I thought you would understand by now..."
"What exactly is that?"
Kapros asked, pointing at the mountain-like mass so large that only its enormous tail and back were visible. The man scratched his head as if perplexed.
"As I said earlier, that is Kor, and I am Kor's mental body."
"So what is this Kor, I'm asking."
"If I were to answer in terms of species characteristics, Kor is a dragon."
"...A dragon?"
"Yes. As you can see, a red dragon. Also called a dragon."
Kapros opened his mouth, feeling like he should say something, but ended up closing it again without saying anything. The situation before his eyes was that unbelievable.
Starting from why Jeong Seung-jo was standing in front of his house to questions about his purpose for coming, and the instinctive wariness that arose, all jumbled his thoughts.
'Why on earth...'
His head was screaming that he needed to think to calm the confusion, but his body, remembering the fierce fight he had with Jeong Seung-jo three days ago, unconsciously took a step back. Immediately, a gaze sharp as a blade followed him like an inescapable pursuer.
Jeong Seung-jo, revealing dark bruises under his hat uncovered by gauze or bandages, moved his lips slightly.
"...not dead."
"What?"
"You didn't die, Kang Mu-heon."
When Kapros didn't respond, thinking this was an odd thing to say now, Jeong Seung-jo seemed to smirk briefly before returning to a chilling expressionless face and straightened his back that had been leaning against Kapros's door. His piercing gaze lingered for a long time on the cast wrapped around Kapros's fingers, the bandages and gauze stuck here and there, and the bandage tightly wound around his head, before meeting his eyes.
"You must have realized by now? I won't say it twice. Don't take an interest in me ever again."
A voice filled with venom that chilled to the fingertips. Everywhere Jeong Seung-jo's gaze touched, memories of their fight flashed through Kapros's mind, accompanied by throbbing pain.
When Kapros had gone to find Jeong Seung-jo then, he hadn't wanted things to turn out like this...
'Was it wrong of me to have sought you out so recklessly?'
Did Jeong Seung-jo truly, sincerely not want to have any conversation with him anymore?
Did he want to say that everything between them was over and couldn't be undone, that this was the truth?
'But I don't think that way...'
All the confidence Kapros had when he went to meet Jeong Seung-jo crumbled in an instant. The memory of frantically hitting Jeong Seung-jo overlapped, making him feel nauseous. As he clenched his jaw, tensing his legs to avoid staggering, Jeong Seung-jo slowly approached and continued speaking.
"After what happened to you, you must have realized something. If you show any more of that worthless interest again, it won't end this lightly next time. ...Got it?"
Jeong Seung-jo, who had approached without hesitation, suddenly raised his arm. Kapros's fist twitched instinctively from tension. After barely restraining the impulse, he saw that Jeong Seung-jo was holding his cane.
"That's..."
"That's all I have to say. You understood well, right? You were always a smart guy."
"..."
"So, let's... never see each other again."
The moment he heard those words, something hot suddenly welled up from deep inside Kapros's chest.
"Jeong Seung-jo!"
"Don't call my name."
Due to the same pain he had felt three years ago, Kapros could only breathe heavily a few times before finally failing to continue speaking. Even the thoughts that came to mind were exactly the same as back then.
'Why on earth are you...'
Jeong Seung-jo, with his pale, bruised face devoid of any color, stretched out the hand holding Kapros's cane towards him. Kapros tried to organize his complicated thoughts while looking at the cane held out in front of him, but it wasn't as easy as he wished. He moved his stiff fingers to slowly grasp the thin cane one by one, and as he received it, his fingertips lightly touched Jeong Seung-jo's.
"..."
For a moment, both Kapros and Jeong Seung-jo froze. Surprised, Kapros unconsciously raised his gaze, and his eyes locked with Jeong Seung-jo's, who was also looking at him. The touch of the cold fingertips felt so unfamiliar yet familiar that it seemed to choke him.
After a brief silence where one second felt like an hour, Jeong Seung-jo abruptly pulled his hand away, turned to the side, and strode past Kapros, leaving a chill in the air.
