Vol 6 Chapter 43
Hearing the stall owner's stern and aggressive response, the victim users' faces gradually turned pale. At the same time, menacing-looking guild members could be seen emerging from behind the merchant.
"Yoni, what's the problem?"
"Ah, Jicheon-hyung. These people are calling me a scammer. Haha. I don't make any profit from this event business, I'm just trying to do a thank-you event while making a living on trust, but I really can't do this anymore."
"What? Tch. These troublemakers these days are really something else."
An aura glowing faintly blue could be seen on the guild member's blade as he threatened by partially drawing and resheathing the sword at his waist. It was a subtle display showing he was at least intermediate level as a swordsman. Seeing this, one of the victim users, whose face had turned even paler, finally stepped forward unable to hold back.
"Look, isn't this clearly strange? How can there be darts that fail every single throw? I watched earlier, and almost everyone before me failed too. Even if each dart has different weight, this is weird, right? And how is it proper manners to mobilize guild members just because we said one thing? Unless you're feeling guilty about something."
"You wanna go?"
As onlookers started murmuring at those words, the guild members stepped forward excitedly with their weapons.
"Look how angry they're getting because it's true! Fine. Whatever you say, we're leaving. Game terminate!"
"Game terminate!"
"You bastards! Stop right there!"
Though the guild members were raging, the victim users had already disappeared leaving only green afterimages after terminating the game. Only after making a fuss among themselves for quite a while did they finally calm down and leave at the stall owner's persuasion that they needed to continue business. After they left, the watching crowd also dispersed one by one, and Kapros carefully listened to someone clicking their tongue as they passed by.
"Tsk tsk tsk. The Jison Pico Guild is notorious, why participate in their event? They just make a living by scamming newbies."
After hearing those words, Kapros turned to leave, thinking it would be better to ignore this event. However, as he turned, he heavily collided shoulders with one of the guild members who was leaving with a fierce expression alongside the stall owner.
"Ugh..."
"Ow! You black cockroach, can't you watch where you're going? Damn, these newbie bastards wearing hoods they can't even see through..."
"What's this? There are still bastards blocking our way without knowing who we are. Anyway, since we're helping Yoni today, I'll let it slide."
"Augh, I'm letting you off because I'm busy, got it?"
The guy who was clutching his shoulder in pain despite his large build, along with his companion, cursed at Kapros's shabby appearance before leaving. Kapros, who had been about to apologize, watched their retreating figures in disbelief before slowly turning back toward the stall. It had been a while since he'd needed to use his principle of returning twice the punch for every punch thrown at him, but this seemed like an opportunity to use it.
Kapros stood near the stall waiting for his chance. When the original onlookers had left and new ones were gradually gathering, the stall owner reappeared with a completely changed expression, smiling pleasantly as he began soliciting customers.
"Come~ Get amazing prizes worth 70 gold for just 7 gold! We're having a dart throwing event~ Don't hesitate, come on over! That hard-to-get attribute defense skill book and the amadite sand-colored accessory set that ladies love are no longer just a dream! Hit them with a dart and they're all yours! Ten chances! It's a bargain, a bargain!"
"Wow, that set is really pretty. Should I try too?"
As passing people stopped, drawn in by this, Kapros slowly approached the stall owner.
"Oh my! Welcome!"
"I'd like to try the event..."
"Yes, yes. Are both of you participating?"
At those words, Kapros glanced at Caesar. Caesar's expression showed no interest whatsoever. Kapros just shook his head.
"No... just me."
"Then please wait a moment."
The stall owner pulled out a bundle of ten darts from his clothes and held them out to Kapros with a seemingly kind smile spread across his face.
"These are the darts used in the event. Since they're mixed with both heavy and light ones, it takes quite a bit of effort just to throw them unless you have considerable skill. The basic rule is to hit and knock down the prizes with the darts. If you want accessory items, you need to pierce and knock down the accessories mounted on paper."
After briefly explaining the rules, the owner led Kapros to a faintly drawn white line about 3 meters away from the front. Caesar stood to the side, still watching with an unreadable expression.
"Stand here, and stepping over the line invalidates the throw. So, pay the fee first, and when I raise my hand from over there, you can throw as you wish."
Kapros slowly drew out one dart and fiddled with it. Should he fail the first throw on purpose? After taking a deep breath, he aimed and threw the dart forward. Though it flew well at first, the dart began to slow down halfway through and fell without even reaching the display stand. The watching crowd made sounds of disappointment.
"Ah~ Too bad."
Looking at the stall owner acting naturally, Kapros quietly smiled. Now that he had made a courtesy throw, it was time to properly deal with that guy.
"Strength. Aerial Servant."
If anyone had heard his muttering, they would have been shocked enough to fall backward. As he used two spells simultaneously, his head throbbed once before he felt energy surge through his body and his vision split in two.
Kapros drew out a second dart and after gauging his split vision, slowly threw the dart toward the most noticeable magic book among the displayed items.
