Chapter 102: I'm Leaving Under Cover of Night

In the evening.

After finishing with the Bai family's funeral matters, Su Tianyu immediately returned to the warehouse, but was stunned as soon as he entered - the goods by the door had been disturbed.

"Daxiong, Daxiong?!" Su Tianyu stood at the entrance scanning the surroundings, not entering but calling out softly twice.

After several seconds, a head emerged from the abandoned cellar in the warehouse's lower level. Daxiong, his face dirty, replied in a low voice: "I'm... I'm here, Brother Yu!"

This warehouse was rented later by Mingyuan Company and had previously been used specifically for storing fresh goods. The underground level not only had a cellar but also two pools.

After climbing out, Daxiong wiped the water marks from his face.

Seeing him, Su Tianyu immediately closed the door: "What happened?"

"People... people came in the afternoon, to inspect the warehouse... including a night watchman," Daxiong replied. "I didn't dare come out, so I hid."

Su Tianyu couldn't possibly tell Mingyuan Company's people that a citywide wanted suspect was hiding here, so he naturally didn't know they would suddenly come to the warehouse.

"It's... it's fine, they all left," Daxiong replied with a pale face.

"Ah, that's good!" Su Tianyu stepped inside, helping Daxiong bring out basic medical supplies and daily necessities from the cellar.

Ten minutes later, Su Tianyu used a small flashlight to examine Daxiong's wounds, helped him change the medicinal dressings, and gave him another anti-inflammatory shot with a disposable syringe.

Daxiong sat on the goods with his head down, not saying anything.

Su Tianyu used the electric kettle he had brought yesterday to boil some hot water and made another bowl of instant noodles for Daxiong: "Eat something first, I'll try to bring you some more nutritious food in the next day or two."

"Brother... Brother Yu... you're too good to me... I owe... owe you...!" Daxiong held the instant noodles with his head down, and whether from stuttering or just being naturally introverted, had difficulty expressing words of thanks.

Su Tianyu immediately waved his hand: "Don't say it, just eat."

Daxiong slowly nodded and used the fork to pick up the noodles, eating in big mouthfuls.

Su Tianyu lay back on the boxes of goods, his head pillowed on both arms, staring blankly at the blurry ceiling.

Before long, Daxiong had finished the instant noodles, drinking even the soup until not a drop remained.

"Are you tired?" Su Tianyu asked.

"I'm... I'm not tired yet."

"I won't leave tonight, otherwise if the night watchman comes, you won't be able to handle it," Su Tianyu stretched. "I'm tired, I'll sleep for a while, wake me up in the second half of the night."

"Oh, okay!" Daxiong nodded heavily.

"Don't think too much for now, just focus on recovering," Su Tianyu turned over to lie on his side facing away from Daxiong, slowly closing his eyes as he said: "Tomorrow I'll think of a way to get a familiar night watchman to come."

"Mm," Daxiong responded with few words.

After instructing Daxiong, Su Tianyu said nothing more, just lay on the pile of goods to rest.

Deep in the night, the room was extraordinarily quiet. Sitting on the pile of goods, Daxiong could hear with both ears the sounds of rats foraging throughout the hall.

Su Tianyu seemed to be sleeping deeply, lying on his side on the pile of goods, not moving at all.

Daxiong turned his head to look at his back, his gaze complex, his expression troubled.

He wasn't a clever person and thought about things very slowly, needing to ponder in his heart for a long time, but fortunately Su Tianyu was asleep and no one was disturbing his thoughts.

Time passed minute by minute, second by second. After sitting motionless on the pile of goods for nearly three hours, Daxiong suddenly stood up slowly and got down to the ground.

Looking around, Daxiong tiptoed to pick up the medical supplies from the pile of goods. After hesitating for over ten seconds, he decisively walked toward the back door.

The surroundings were quiet. Daxiong's footsteps sounded rhythmically in the room but didn't attract Su Tianyu's attention.

Daxiong followed the corridor to the back door, decisively pushed open the iron door, looked at the night outside, and then stepped out.

He had made up his mind - he had to leave, and without saying goodbye to Su Tianyu.

Carrying the plastic bag, Daxiong walked quickly along the small paths nearby, walking hard for over twenty minutes before noticing he was already very far from the warehouse.

Ahead was the urban area, thousands of lights illuminating the night, but they had nothing to do with Daxiong.

Behind was the suburbs, with vast land stretching for countless miles, but Daxiong didn't know where he should go, nor how to evade the city checkpoint officers' search.

In all the world, there seemed no place for him to stay.

Daxiong clutched the wound on his shoulder, his eyes momentarily lost and helpless.

At the intersection, Daxiong squatted at the edge of the ditch, looking down at his feet as hot tears flowed down his cheeks.

Since childhood he had suffered physical and mental domestic violence. After growing up and entering the sanitation department, he was also bullied by colleagues. Recently while taking the fall in detention, the inmates had treated him like livestock.

But had Daxiong ever cried? Never, because back then he still had hope, still had aspirations for life.

And now?

Now Daxiong was completely desperate and lost, not knowing where he should go or where to head.

......

In the warehouse.

As soon as Daxiong left, Su Tianyu opened his eyes. Lying alone on the pile of goods, he just let out a long sigh.

If it weren't for Daxiong's experiences, personality, and attitude toward dealing with people all genuinely touching Su Tianyu, the latter would absolutely not have chosen to risk himself for someone he had known for less than half a year.

Saving Daxiong's life and treating his wounds was already not rational behavior. If Daxiong was caught in the future and talked, Su Tianyu might be charged as an accomplice and sentenced to over ten years.

Sheltering him for two days was already the limit of what Su Tianyu could do.

Su Tianyu himself couldn't help him, and the Yu family who could help him wouldn't.

Five police officers killed - how big a matter was that? Who would dare get involved?

Su Tianyu thought like this for a long time before slowly getting up, cleaning up some traces of living in the room, and also leaving under cover of night.

......

Two days later.

After the Bai family's funeral ended, Su Tianyu, Kong Zhenghui, Bai Hongbo and others went together to the Yu family home to see Yu Mingyuan and discuss how to handle things going forward.

At the same time.

In the teahouse owned by Gu Tongshan in Longkou District, Li Hongze, Lu Feng, Xu Hu, Wei Xiangzuo, and over ten key members of the Zha'nan district dock gang all gathered together.

"Friends are friends, business is business," Li Hongze said with a light smile while smoking. "If I get involved, what kind of personal benefits can I get?"

"You also have a grudge with the Yu family, our goals are the same," a key dock gang member said with a smile.

"This is different," Li Hongze waved his hand. "We have conflicts with the Yu family that we can settle in ten years, but if we act quickly with you now, we become the gun."

Xu Hu considered for a while: "If we bring down the Yu family, the Zha'nan district dock gang will be unified. Besides that, you'll get a share of the sea business, the same scale as what the Yu family was doing before."

Li Hongze pondered for a while: "Straightforward, it's settled then!"

"Doing things small won't have an effect," Gu Tongshan said concisely. "Make it bigger, the higher up the chain the better."
