Chapter 204: I Support Brother Wei
Early the next morning.
After eating breakfast early, Gu Baishun sat in his family living room and called Zhang Ming, the vice chairman of the Dock Workers General Association.
"Hello, Baishun!"
"Uncle Zhang, are you busy?" Gu Baishun asked politely.
"I'm at the association - what is it, something up?"
"Yes, I have something I want to tell you."
"Alright, come over then," Zhang Ming replied softly. "I'll wait for you at the General Association!"
They ended their call and Gu Baishun immediately picked up a black briefcase and walked out the door.
......
That day, the sky was clear without a cloud in sight. The streets were bustling with crowds, looking very lively.
Gu Baishun drove to the Dock Workers General Association and went to Zhang Ming's office. When he entered, Old He and others from the council of elders were also there - several had bandages wrapped around their mouths and visible external injuries.
It seemed Wei Xiangzuo was indeed a man of his word - when he said he would chop mouths, he really did chop mouths.
Seeing so many elders present, Gu Baishun didn't speak, just greeted everyone before sitting in a corner.
In the room, Old He cursed angrily: "Wei Xiangzuo is too outrageous! Never mind that he joined with the Yu family to kill Old Gu - just causing internal strife in Zha'nan and beating us up is unforgivable! Since the Dock Workers Association was established, who the fuck among those below ever dared touch us council of elders... doing this shows no respect for rules?"
"Right, if he wants to be Zha'nan's leader, I'll be the first to oppose!"
"Find connections, get him sentenced to death in prison!"
"...!"
The council of elders people stuck tightly together, uniformly firing at the absent Wei Xiangzuo.
Vice Chairman Zhang Ming only exchanged pleasantries and comforted everyone, but never gave any promises.
Gu Baishun sat to the side unable to interject anything, only listening quietly.
Seeing no reaction from Zhang Ming, Old He immediately asked Gu Baishun: "Little Shun, tell us, can you agree to Wei Xiangzuo becoming gang leader?! He killed your father after all."
Gu Baishun's eyes dimmed as he paused before replying: "I... I don't really understand these things, you all decide for me - I'll listen to you."
"See, Little Shun also says he'll listen to us. Let me tell you Old Zhang, when the general chairman returns, you must take the lead on this matter!"
"Good good, stop arguing - I promise you, when the general chairman returns, I'll tell him!" Zhang Ming replied somewhat perfunctorily, standing up to tell everyone: "I have many things to do today - the Police Bureau is holding a press conference, they arrested all our people, I need to go to the city. Alright, don't stay here anymore - let's talk later!"
The council of elders people lingered chatting with Zhang Ming for a while longer, forcing him to repeatedly state his position before finally leaving together.
After seeing everyone off, Zhang Ming bent down to sit on the sofa, pouring tea and smiling as he asked Gu Baishun: "Baishun, what do you think about this matter?"
Gu Baishun blinked: "I believe in Brother Wei, I support him becoming gang leader!"
Hearing this answer, Zhang Ming was visibly stunned: "Baishun, everyone outside is saying Wei Xiangzuo conspired with the Yu family to harm your father! I don't quite understand you supporting him."
"I said, I believe Brother Wei isn't that kind of person, and Xu Hu threatened us before," Gu Baishun replied very simply and foolishly. "He even demanded money from my mom before."
"Demanded money?" Zhang Ming asked with furrowed brows. "What money?"
"The bit of property my father saved up while alive," Gu Baishun replied very directly, not avoiding the topic of his family property.
"Ah, with Old Gu gone, it must be hard for you mother and son," Zhang Ming pushed the tea to Gu Baishun, asking again: "But do you really support Wei Xiangzuo?"
"Mm, I support him," Gu Baishun immediately replied. "I believe in Brother Wei's character."
Zhang Ming slowly nodded: "Then are you willing to speak about this at the meeting when the general chairman returns?"
"I'm willing!" Gu Baishun replied with clear eyes. "I can say these words."
"Good," Zhang Ming took a drink of tea. "Then I understand. Oh right, is this what you came to tell me?"
"Besides supporting Brother Wei, I... I also want...!" Gu Baishun somewhat nervously pushed the black briefcase from under the table. "Uncle Zhang, I don't know what to say! But when my father was alive, he often told me that you two were good friends, good brothers, working together since the Great Migration period. So, I beg you, please take care of our family more in the future."
"This is...!" Zhang Ming was somewhat surprised.
"...This is a pair of vases my father bought from someone while alive - they were taken from Feng Chengzhang's home when the Shen system warlords were eliminated and the Sichuan army entered Zone Nine, then circulated outside," Gu Baishun said softly. "My father said you also like these things, so I brought them out to give to you."
"Oh no, you absolutely mustn't do these things," Zhang Ming immediately waved his hands. "At my age, how can I accept your things? Listen, quickly take them back! Also, whether you speak up or not, I'll take care of your family in the future, don't worry - with me here, no one will dare cause trouble!"
"Uncle Zhang, please accept them...!"
"No, absolutely not, quickly take them back - I'm going to the city for a meeting," Zhang Ming dropped these words and stood up.
......
About ten minutes later, Gu Baishun left the General Association and was about to get in his car.
"Hey, wait, Baishun!" Zhang Ming's secretary suddenly ran out.
Gu Baishun turned back: "What is it, Brother!"
"Let's talk in the car!" Zhang Ming's secretary got in the car, closed the door, and asked the bewildered Gu Baishun: "Want to give your Uncle Zhang gifts?"
"Yes, I brought them out but he won't accept!"
"You, you just lack social experience!" the secretary replied helplessly. "You carried the case into his office with so many people watching - how could your Uncle Zhang accept?"
"Ah! I forgot, I thought...!"
"Oh my, you just studied too much and lack social experience," the secretary replied softly. "Actually, your Uncle Zhang really loves antiques!"
"Ah, then I'll bring them to him again later!" Gu Baishun immediately replied with a smile.
The secretary looked at him in breakdown: "Are you stupid?! What about me? What did I come down for? Do I have to spell it out?"
"Ah ah ah ah, right right right!" Gu Baishun finally realized and handed over the case: "Please help me give this to Uncle Zhang!"
Half an hour later, Zhang Ming sat in his office looking at the pair of vases and suddenly said with a smile: "In Longkou District, one gang leader died, one hall master went in. They're short a person!"
The secretary didn't understand for a moment: "You want to plant a flag in Longkou District?"
Zhang Ming looked up at him: "What do you think of the vases?"
The secretary was stunned.
......
The City Police Bureau's interrogation detention cells were now completely full - many without sufficient rank were directly thrown into warehouses for temporary detention.
Lu Feng sat in his cell humming tunes while watching TV programs with the officer guarding him.
In the corridor, footsteps rang out as Li Hongze, who had just finished being interrogated, walked back from the office area.
Lu Feng looked up at him immediately, and Li Hongze also saw him when turning.
The two stared at each other for a while, sparks flying!
Li Hongze looked at this bastard, secretly gritting his teeth as he stepped to the cell door asking softly: "I just don't fucking understand?! How did you get in here?! Du Shengming ran at Tonglin Bridge, Li Xing ran at the scene - these two central figures had nothing happen to them, how could you, someone just wandering on the outskirts, get in trouble?"
Lu Feng immediately came to the barred door, asking with furrowed brows: "...I'm also puzzled - how did you get in? Those two ran, how did you...!"
"If you hadn't fucking come in, would I be in here?!" Li Hongze gritted his teeth. "Are you playing me?!"
"How am I playing you? I came in but didn't say anything, Chairman!" Lu Feng replied.
Li Hongze pointed at his temple: "You better use your brain! Don't talk nonsense!"
"I definitely won't talk nonsense! I'm different from you - I don't have many issues, just assaulted police," Lu Feng replied softly. "At most I get criminal detention! What about you? What crime did you commit?!"
When Li Hongze was caught by Wang Daolin, his composure hadn't broken, but now hearing Lu Feng's reply, he suddenly exploded in rage cursing: "Go fuck yourself!! You're using words to mess with me? Remember this - if I get sentenced to ten years, you'll get at least eight years!"
"If you're going to say that, I'll spill everything!" Lu Feng immediately replied. "I turned myself in originally - I can go from criminal detention to witness for the prosecution...!"
"Fuck your mother!" Li Hongze reached out and grabbed Lu Feng's throat.
