Chapter 259: Racing Toward the Great Canyon
In the pasture, cattle and horses scattered in panic hearing gunfire, pushing open many fences, rushing toward either the plains or the forest.
Su Tianyu shouted while running: "When helicopters get closer, thermal imagers can see heat shapes - we don't have much time - quickly find a water source, find a mud pit!"
"Phone, we need a phone now!" Li Mingsheng followed behind, also shouting nervously: "They've made their move - I need to contact people who support me."
Su Tianyu and Li Mingsheng's phones had been taken away when the hostage situation began. During the process, Su Tianyu had only played the role of messenger - neither side would possibly equip him with communication devices, so the two currently couldn't send out messages.
Su Tianyu replied while running in front: "Give me the number, I'll find a phone."
Li Mingsheng didn't hesitate at all, repeating a number three times from behind before asking: "Remember it?!"
"Remembered!"
"His name is Jin Maohui - if he doesn't believe you, mention the March party school matter from Year 52..." Li Mingsheng reminded carefully: "Must contact him personally before telling my situation."
"Understood!" Su Tianyu replied.
"After calling, come find me here."
"I'll fucking shake off the helicopter first," Su Tianyu disappeared like smoke near the warehouse.
The pasture had many water sources, and the grassland for livestock grazing had wet, soft soil - so Li Mingsheng ran less than fifty meters before seeing a water source at the bottom of the left hillside. He immediately rushed over without thinking, jumping into the mud pit by the water.
Mud could effectively block thermal imager detection. After jumping in, fearing his body wasn't completely covered in mud, Li Mingsheng specifically rolled twice, trying hard to burrow into the pit.
Sure enough, the reconnaissance helicopter quickly passed over without lingering around the nearby water source areas.
Beside the warehouse, Su Tianyu bent down examining the pasture's main building - lights were already on there, and several white men with guns had rushed to the entrance.
Not far from the Kasalo war zone, the local customs were extremely fierce - for a pasture of this scale to have over ten workers and over ten guns wasn't strange at all.
With important matters at hand, Su Tianyu definitely had no need to cause more trouble, so he didn't choose to rush over directly demanding a phone, but observed briefly before taking a detour toward other dormitories.
No one knew what these herders or farm owners did before - if he encountered a group of retired veterans, Su Tianyu alone had no need to fight them to the death just for a phone.
Running forward another twenty-plus meters, Su Tianyu indeed saw a man rush out from another dormitory building, left hand carrying an unsafed gun, steps somewhat unsteady, looking around the pasture in confusion.
Su Tianyu quickened his pace, rapidly approaching him while slowly raising his arm, gathering strength to directly strike the man's head with his automatic rifle's stock.
"Thud!"
The farm worker fell forward, body pressing on the doorstep, emanating strong alcohol fumes - this fellow had clearly drunk heavily before sleeping.
After taking him down, Su Tianyu directly pressed his gun barrel against his head, shouting in English: "Give me phone!"
The burly man shook his head, taking a full one or two seconds before raising his head, wanting to resist with an angry expression.
"Phone!" Su Tianyu pointed the gun at him shouting again.
Seeing the automatic rifle clearly, the burly man immediately became very docile, pointing toward a phone at the head of the bed inside, nodding stiffly.
Su Tianyu kept his gun aimed at the burly man, backing into the room to take the phone, demanding again: "Unlock code!"
"...First letters of 'I am macho'," the other replied raising his hands.
Su Tianyu unlocked the phone, kicked open the window, climbed outside and left quickly.
......
In the sky, the reconnaissance helicopter rapidly passed over this farm area, quickly identifying heat shapes at a relatively low altitude.
"Six people at the farm owner's building entrance, three near the left warehouse, one person toward the right warehouse - can observe they're carrying weapons and positioned relatively concentrated," the observer in the copilot seat said rapidly.
"The targets are just two people - they can't know the pasture people - those in concentrated positions aren't targets," the pilot immediately said. "I need to increase altitude, continue reconnaissance - notify ground forces to send a squad to search the farm."
"Understood!" The copilot nodded in reply.
On the mountain heading toward the great canyon's cliff, Su Tianyu ran while breathing heavily, using the farm worker's phone to dial the number Li Mingsheng gave him.
In Dragon City, in the Anti-Terror General Squad office building, a middle-aged man was walking somewhat anxiously in his office.
The Anti-Terror Squad reported independently to Dragon City's Political Assistance command - though called the Anti-Terror Squad, their scope of responsibility was very broad. They could be seen at major natural disasters, major man-made disasters, and security for various highest-level Dragon City meetings.
In the office, that somewhat anxious middle-aged man had already taken countless calls this night - many people sought him but he hadn't shown his face.
"Ring ring!"
In the dimly lit office, urgent phone rings rang out.
The middle-aged man immediately walked to his desk, picking up his personal phone, looking at the number before pressing answer: "Hello, this is Jin Maohui!"
"Where were you in Year 52 of the new era?!" Su Tianyu didn't know if the person answering was really Jin Maohui, so asked very directly.
Jin Maohui paused briefly: "I was at Zone One Party School."
"What happened there?"
"In March I protested with Old Li."
"...!" Seeing the code matched, Su Tianyu immediately replied to him: "Mayor Li is with me - you need to do two things now: First, send people to the Su family at the Environmental Management Association's subsidiary company in Zha'nan District, ensure their safety; Second, send people to receive us - someone is trying to assassinate Mayor Li!"
......
Somewhere in the Kasalo region, Secretary-General Lu sat in an SUV holding his wounded arm.
"How did this happen?" The middle-aged man in the car asked pointing at the wound on his arm.
"Damn it, before I could act he acted first. He wanted to kill me - fortunately I was prepared," Secretary-General Lu replied through gritted teeth.
"...He acted first?" The middle-aged man was somewhat disbelieving.
Secretary-General Lu glanced at him, immediately replying: "Notify people in the city to act for me! That Su Tianyu is protecting Old Li - press his family - don't worry he won't compromise!"
