Chapter 275: A Walk, Night Talk

In the dimly lit office, Jing Yan felt unbearably thirsty and immediately stood up to walk toward the water dispenser nearby, but when he turned back, he suddenly saw five or six deathly pale faces watching him at the window.

Jing Yan was so frightened goosebumps rose all over his body as he turned to run.

The floating people outside rushed in, grabbing Jing Yan's neck with twisted expressions, shouting loudly, but he couldn't hear anything.

Jing Yan felt he was about to suffocate, his eyes bulging as he struggled, but his hands had no strength. Just as he was about to be strangled, he saw Zhao Weihu's figure appear outside the window, the latter watching him with gloomy eyes, motionless.

"Flutter!!"

In a bedroom, Jing Yan suddenly sat up, already covered in sweat. Realizing he had been dreaming, he instinctively scanned the curtained window, only letting out a breath when he saw nothing unusual there.

"Whoosh!"

Jing Yan let out a long breath, lowering his head to bury his face in his hands, wiping the sweat vigorously.

After sitting on the bed calming down for a long time, Jing Yan's emotions still hadn't settled - he even had trouble falling asleep, so he directly picked up his phone to dial a number: "Hey, call Little Ying over, mm, you go pick her up...!"

After the call, Jing Yan lay back on the bed, looking at the ceiling with gloomy eyes.

......

At the Chi Army base in Kasalo.

After participating in the hostage exchange, Su Tianyu didn't leave immediately because the Chi Army side held a celebration feast for the successful completion of the Dragon City incident and rescue of important Chi Army investors.

But this kind of celebration feast was actually just to inject chicken blood into those below, because objectively speaking, though Zhao Weihu achieved his goal on this trip to Dragon City, he also paid a great price - counting as a bitter victory, completely not reaching the standard for holding a celebration feast. However, face matters still needed to be handled.

At the celebration feast, Su Tianyu drank some alcohol because his minor burns had almost healed - he had stopped medication yesterday, so a couple drinks weren't a problem. Moreover, many people from the Chi Army side came to toast him, expressing their thanks.

In the banquet hall, while Su Tianyu was boasting with Liu Mang and others, a soldier suddenly came over, patting his shoulder: "Mr. Su, the Commander calls for you!"

Su Tianyu immediately stood up: "Where is he?"

"He's outside - follow me!"

"Good!" Su Tianyu responded, immediately following the soldier quickly out of the hall through the back door to the large open ground behind the courtyard.

Zhao Weihu had also drunk but not much. He stood under the moonlight smoking while taking a walk.

Su Tianyu caught up, asking with a smile: "Commander, you called for me?"

"Mm, just chat casually," Zhao Weihu replied with hands behind his back.

"Ah!" Su Tianyu followed on Zhao Weihu's left side, moving forward while the guard soldiers behind automatically dispersed to keep watch around the perimeter.

The grass in the back courtyard was covered in dew, the temperature slightly low. Following Zhao Weihu for a few steps, Su Tianyu already felt his sneakers getting soaked.

Zhao Weihu was a heavy smoker, lighting another cigarette after finishing one: "There's something I'm quite curious about - Yu Jinrong is gone, why do you kids still insist on running this association? Just for money? But given Yu Mingyuan's family background, he shouldn't be very short of money, right?"

Su Tianyu was silent for a while: "Brother Yuan continues because he's not convinced in his heart - we bunch continue because we're not convinced."

Zhao Weihu found this explanation quite interesting, turning to look at Su Tianyu asking: "How are you not convinced?"

"Brother Yuan lost his father - of course he's not convinced in his heart. Uncle Yu had political career ambitions when alive but was killed by villains - Brother Yuan doesn't want to run back to Zone One so pathetically, so he wants to continue," Su Tianyu looked up at the night sky, pausing slightly before continuing: "And I... I'm also not convinced."

"What are you not convinced about?"

"I'm not convinced that after shedding blood and risking life on the independence battlefield, I came back to get a black mark of never being employable by the government!" Su Tianyu replied looking ahead with hoarse voice. "I'm also not convinced that my father campaigned north and south for so many years, spent his youth and energy of the first half of his life on the Chinese Expeditionary Army, but was finally executed by his own people for supporting Dragon City's political independence. I'm even less convinced that my mother, such an honest and simple person, finally died in depression... I have resentment in my heart, so I want to make something of myself, want to stand up - it's that simple."

Zhao Weihu looked at him somewhat surprised: "Your parents were also military?"

"My mother wasn't military - she did medical and pharmaceutical science, but my father was military - Chinese Expeditionary Army, Old South Hu Corps, Third Army Colonel Staff Officer," Su Tianyu replied truthfully.

"Third Army...!" Zhao Weihu paused: "This unit's predecessor was South Hu Corps' most elite force - previously the 63rd Army, Li Bokang's ace!"

"Being an ace was useless - back then due to Zhou Xingli's stubbornness and internal strife decisions, the 63rd Army was crushed on the Yemen battlefield. After Li Bokang died, it was reorganized again," Su Tianyu replied with a sigh.

Zhao Weihu slowly nodded, commenting with hands behind back: "Your non-acceptance is interesting! I'm also not convinced - otherwise wouldn't have come to Kasalo and Xinaluo regions to build armed forces."

"Commander, if not for having a big family, I might have done like you," Su Tianyu said with bright eyes. "Born in chaotic times - what special bloodline do princes and nobles have?!"

These words went straight to Zhao Weihu's heart. He looked at Su Tianyu, replying with raised eyebrows: "You're right! Young people like you with ambitions shouldn't drift with the current, letting others slaughter you at will! Though I didn't join the army as early as your father, I've also experienced many things. I understand better than anyone how hard it's been for us overseas Chinese to reach today! We fought the civil war, got labeled as national traitors - a label we can never remove. The Yemen War - countless dead and wounded. Independence War - our compatriots fell piece by piece in artillery fire, but in the end didn't know who we fought for... Dragon City's political environment is complex, departments corrupt - continuing like this... our previous battles were all fought in vain."

"Right!"

"Running the association is right - can unite people, also unite will," Zhao Weihu looked at Su Tianyu happily. "You kids' non-acceptance has a stubborn spirit - I think you can accomplish things."

"Try our best - how far we go depends on fate!" Su Tianyu said with feeling.

"I always keep my word!" Zhao Weihu looked at Su Tianyu, saying word by word: "In the Supervision Assembly building, you gave me information, indirectly saving our 300 people, but I didn't move against Jing Yan and Gu Baishun! This isn't right - so, I owe you a favor - when you need it, I'll repay you!"

Su Tianyu glanced secretly at Zhao Weihu, immediately cupping his fists saying: "Commander, by the time you repay this favor, we don't know if our Tongji Association will still exist - promises too far away, I'm afraid I can't wait!"

"Then what do you mean?!"

"Let's not wait for you to repay the favor," Su Tianyu stepped forward, saying with a smile: "If you think well of me, I'll recognize you as a big brother - let's not talk about favors anymore. A brother helping his big brother - isn't that how it should be?"

"...Fuck!" Zhao Weihu was speechless.
