Chapter 77: A Lead

After being stunned for a moment, Liang Feng immediately replied: "Alright, I'll take one for you now."

"Beep beep!" Old Black hung up directly.

About two minutes later, Xu Er gathered Liang Feng's family together and had him take a family photo to prove he was at home.

After taking the photo, Liang Feng sent it to Old Black, who only replied briefly: "Okay, keep your phone on. I'll come find you in these few days."

Looking at Old Black's reply, Xu Er frowned and cursed: "He's quite cunning! Doesn't say when he's coming, doesn't say whether he'll take the job or not."

"He's been leading teams for work for a long time, he's an old hand," Liang Feng replied.

"Fine, then we'll wait!" Xu Er nodded.

......

In the police car in Dragon City's urban area.

Old Yang made a gesture for silence before answering the phone: "Hello?"

"It's already New Year's Day, when are you coming home?" his wife's voice came through.

"Tomorrow, I still have something tonight," Old Yang loosened his collar and replied.

"Old Yang, aren't you being a bit excessive?!" his wife suddenly exploded in anger. "It's fine that you don't come home usually, but now we can't even see you during New Year's? Can we still live like this?!"

"I told you, we had an emergency case these past few days, I must keep watch..."

"Keep watch my ass! Will the Police Bureau collapse without you? Do you know that my father is still in the hospital this year? On New Year's Eve, I had to take care of the kids and go to the hospital. Can you fucking consider my feelings...?!"

"Stop yelling, I'm very troubled too. Let me tell you, if this case goes wrong, I'll fucking lose my job, and I'll have to go to prison too. I understand you, but who the fuck understands me!" Old Yang's eyes turned red with anger as he directly hung up the phone.

During these three days, Old Yang hadn't even had time to go home. On one hand, he had to deal with his superiors, and on the other hand, he had to find ways to catch the person. He was actually very afraid, because Daxiong, being an intellectually disabled suspect, was different from ordinary people - he had no friend circle and no money, making the possibility of him committing crimes while on the run very high. Once something big happened and the previous case was dug up, he would be completely finished.

But now during the New Year period, people at the City Police Bureau and District Police Department were implementing rotating holiday policies, leaving very few police officers on duty. And even though the bureau had issued a coordination notice and various district units expressed willingness to cooperate, the legs were still on their bodies - how many people would go out patrolling the streets to catch someone during New Year's?

Irritation, extreme irritation weighed on Old Yang's heart as he drove with a dark face to find Tang Baiqing.

......

Around 9 PM, below an apartment building in Zha'nan District, Tang Baiqing, reeking of alcohol, came down and stood by the road waiting.

"Screech!"

An SUV stopped by the roadside, and Old Yang waved: "Get in!"

Hearing this, Tang Baiqing pulled open the door and bent down to get in. At this time, besides Old Yang, there were three other police officers in the car.

"Did you talk to the Wu family?" Old Yang asked directly.

"We did, but the Wu family swore and vowed that Wu Shixiong absolutely hadn't contacted them," Tang Baiqing shook his head and replied.

"Could they be lying?" a police officer was somewhat skeptical: "This kid is intellectually disabled, and he has no money. If his family isn't harboring him, where could he go?"

"Wu Shixiong definitely hasn't gone home," Tang Baiqing replied with certainty. "His father is even more anxious than we are. They're just bottom-level society people, their thoughts are very simple. His family is now afraid we'll demand the money back and afraid Wu Shixiong's sentence will be increased, so they want to find him and send him back immediately."

Old Yang smoked: "This is really fucking annoying!"

"I'm even more annoyed! My father's looks could kill me now," Tang Baiqing sniffed. "Even though this kid hasn't gone home, could he be secretly observing his family? Why don't... I get the dock gang people to cut up his father, or his big brother, force him to come out."

Old Yang squinted his eyes: "I think that could work. No matter how brutal this kid is, he can't ignore his parents, right? There's no better option now, so..."

"Ring ring!"

Just as the two were discussing strategies, the phone in Old Yang's pocket suddenly rang. He took out his phone and glanced at the caller ID, immediately pressing answer: "What is it, Old Du?"

"Hey, Old Yang, about that escaped suspect, I found some leads."

"What leads?!" Old Yang instantly became alert.

"The bureau issued a coordination notice, right? And you called me too, so I had the officers below divide into districts and notify the streets, entertainment venues, and possible hiding places," the other person was clearly selling a favor. "Would you believe it, there really is some news."

"Tell me."

"You know Haiyan Pit?"

"I know!"

"There's a pending garbage storage site near Sanlin Street at Haiyan Pit, with quite a few waste collection points nearby," the other person replied in a low voice. "A night watchman there reported to the local patrol point that there's been something unusual these past few days, like things going missing..."

"Just these past few days?"

"Yes, just these two days."

"Have the patrol point people gone?"

"No, it's New Year's, everyone's visiting homes. The patrol point only has two people on duty," the other person replied with a laugh. "I'm at my father-in-law's place too, only knew when I got the call."

"Give me the address and contact information, I'll go there now," Old Yang said urgently.

"Alright, I'll send it to you right away."

"Good, thanks, Old Du."

With that, they ended the call, and Old Yang directly started the car: "Let's go to Haiyan Pit."

"Found him?!" Tang Baiqing asked.

"No, just a lead, let's go check it out," Old Yang replied.

At the same time, on a certain coastline, a man carrying a simple travel bag walked down the steps and came to an old diesel fishing boat.

From the boat, a boatman came out to greet him familiarly: "Leaving on New Year's Day?"

"Hehe, the year's over, the festival's over, got to go make money," the man stepped onto the boat and took out two packs of good cigarettes and a stack of cash from his bag, handing them to the boatman. "Let's go."

"Alright!" The boatman took the money without counting it, just carefully put it away and went to untie the boat's ropes.

The passenger lay in the cabin, squinting as he opened his phone to look at a photo in his album.

......

Around 10:10 PM, an SUV stopped at Sanlin Street in Haiyan Pit. After Tang Baiqing got out and turned his head, he immediately saw a three-story building standing nearby.

This three-story building was too familiar - wasn't it the crime scene where he had killed Xiaoying?

"Let's go!"

Old Yang got out of the car and led the four people towards the garbage dump.
