Chapter 81: Cunning
In Liang Feng's home, a dock gang lackey turned to Xu Er and said: "I also feel something's strange about this. We just called him, and in less than ten hours he's here. Second Brother, do you think he might have noticed something in the photo? Some of them had injuries on their faces."
"Notice my ass, you think this is a photo studio? Taking a family photo where everyone has to sit in a row, all straight and proper?!" Xu Er waved his hand. "It was staged, he couldn't tell anything."
Liang Feng thought for a moment and interjected: "I... I don't think he knows where my house is, because we don't have any mutual acquaintances. It would be hard for him to find out."
"He knows you're in this village, how hard would it be to find you?" Xu Er was definitely an old hand in the underworld. After pondering for a while, he immediately ordered: "Have Xia Gou drive over alone to pick up Liang Feng and take him to the meeting point. Everyone else get in position around the area. I'll go out through the back door later and follow you."
"Okay!" the lackey nodded.
......
Five minutes later.
An ordinary SUV stopped in front of Liang Feng's house. After turning around, the driver honked at the courtyard gate.
After a short while, Liang Feng came out alone and bent down to get into the car.
The driver turned to look at Liang Feng: "By the way, there are people in your house, don't try anything funny, or you know the consequences."
"Yes!" Liang Feng nodded obediently.
The driver drove expressionlessly toward the meeting point.
Upstairs, Xu Er lifted a corner of the curtain and squinted at the departing car, saying: "Leave two people here later, in case that guy tries to play tricks with us."
"Got it!"
The living village where Liang Feng's house was located wasn't very large, so the meeting point Old Black had arranged was also very close, less than three kilometers away.
After driving for five or six minutes, Liang Feng had arrived at the meeting point. He took out his phone to call Old Black, but the other party didn't answer.
Liang Feng thought for a while and sensibly asked the driver: "Should I send him a text?"
"Just send that you've arrived here," the driver replied.
Hearing this, Liang Feng did as told.
......
In the living village, Old Black looked down at his phone, his eyes full of cunning. His current behavior, strictly speaking, wasn't a display of intelligence or IQ, but rather the experience of an old thief.
In Old Black's line of work, one moment of carelessness could cost you your head. Moreover, Old Black's team wasn't a highly professional fixed group. Its composition was very complex, basically relying on people finding people, people introducing people, with members very scattered and not fixed for each job. Some quit completely after making enough money; with new people coming in, you couldn't be sure of their true nature.
Normally, Old Black would absolutely not take jobs through his own lackeys, because when upstream didn't know him, the risks would increase greatly, let alone the fact that Liang Feng hadn't been with him very long.
However, Old Black was currently very short of money, so he had no choice but to come try it out.
In the dim light, Old Black looked down at his phone, not replying to Liang Feng's text.
After about another five minutes, Liang Feng grew anxious and called Old Black again, but he still didn't answer.
Meanwhile, Xu Er, waiting in Liang Feng's house, felt the timing was about right and finally jumped out alone from the second-floor back window. After scanning the surroundings and seeing nothing unusual, he climbed over the wall and left, walking quickly toward the meeting point.
As time ticked by second by second, Liang Feng sat in the car sweating. He frowned and asked the driver: "I... I haven't acted strange, have I?"
The driver looked at him expressionlessly: "Send Old Black another text, directly ask if he's coming or not. If not, we'll leave."
"Okay!" Liang Feng took his phone and started composing another text.
"Ring ring!"
Before he could send the text, Liang Feng's phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID and immediately answered: "Hello? Big Brother!"
"Are you there?" Old Black asked.
"Yes, I called you earlier but you didn't answer!"
"How many shop signs are still lit at the intersection?" Old Black asked in a low voice.
Liang Feng looked around, saw several storefronts still had their lights on, and replied: "Five signs are still lit. Big Brother... don't you trust me?"
Old Black paused slightly: "In our line of work, if you're not careful you'll lose your head. Doing it this way is good for both you and me."
"Yes," Liang Feng agreed.
"Alright, go back home, I'll find you in these few days," Old Black spoke slowly and methodically.
Liang Feng was stunned: "What do you mean?"
"I didn't come today, had some family matters, couldn't get away," Old Black replied softly. "I had a friend in Xinaluo go, he saw your car and sent me a text."
"You..." Liang Feng was speechless.
"Like I said, caution keeps the ship sailing for ten thousand years. I'll bring people over in these couple of days. If the job works out, we'll leave immediately," Old Black said with furrowed brows. "Keep your phone on. When I arrive, I'll contact you. That's it."
With that, they ended the call.
"What did he say?" the driver asked.
"He said he didn't come, but his friend saw our car," Liang Feng replied.
"Damn, this old fox isn't easy to hook!" the driver cursed and dialed Xu Er's number: "Big Brother, he didn't come."
"What?"
"He said he sent a friend who saw our car and left, but he himself didn't come. Said he'll contact Liang Feng in a few days," the driver explained.
"Fuck!" Xu Er cursed upon hearing this. "I already came out!"
"What should we do?"
"...!" Xu Er thought for a moment: "This guy is quite cunning. Do this: return the same way, drop Liang Feng at his door, then drive the car far away, don't return to the stakeout position."
"Okay, understood."
They ended the call, and the car returned to Liang Feng's house, while the dock gang brothers lying in ambush also withdrew.
In the living village, in a dark alley, Old Black quickly left the area around Liang Feng's house and immediately called a friend: "Hello!"
"What's up?"
"...One of my lackeys seems to be trying to trap me," Old Black said as he walked.
"Trap you? What do you mean?"
"This lackey has done a few jobs with me before, but they were all small street deals, very minor," Old Black replied in a low voice. "If he's in trouble, it's probably from that sea job."
The other party was stunned hearing this.
"Are you sure?!"
"I'm not sure," Old Black said in a hoarse voice. "I was originally at home for New Year when this kid said he had a big job to introduce to me. I felt it was abrupt because he hasn't been with me long, but I came because I needed money. I got the call today and arrived today. When I entered the village and called him, as soon as he answered, all three rooms in his house lit up. And during New Year's, his courtyard didn't have any firecrackers or firework boxes or anything. I felt it was strange, so I didn't meet him..."
......
Five minutes later, at the Bai family home.
Su Tianyu gestured for everyone to be quiet as he answered his phone: "Hello, Brother Yuan!"
"Damn it, there's an urgent matter. It seems someone's found out about our sea job from last time," Yu Mingyuan's voice came through.
