Chapter 88: Avoiding Blood
At Dragon River's source, by the bridge.
Su Zhengcai looked at his nephew and asked in a low voice: "What exactly happened?"
"Little Tao is gone," Su Tianyu replied, head down. "He took a shot to the back while we were running."
Hearing this, Su Zhengcai and Old Kong were both stunned.
On New Year's Day, Bai Dabiao had lost one of his sons.
Actually, as soon as Su Tianyu had seen Bai Hongtao's wounds, he knew in his heart that he probably couldn't be saved.
A shotgun at close range hitting vital areas - forget about flesh and blood, even a brick wall a hand's width thick would probably have a huge hole blown through it.
When Xu Er fired, the distance was relatively far, so the pellets had spread out when they left the gun. Only four had penetrated Bai Hongtao's back and damaged his internal organs; otherwise, he might have been blown apart on the spot.
Su Tianyu had served for over four years and had participated in Zone One's independence war. He could tell at a glance who could be saved and who couldn't.
In these chaotic times, how much luck could one count on? You might be able to cut Xu Er, but his gun could also kill you.
......
On the road, Su Zhengcai stood with his hands behind his back, his mouth twitching, while Old Kong frowned, his gaze complex.
In the car, the aged Bai Dabiao held his son's head, his heart breaking with pain.
A cold wind blew across the ungoverned territory's land as everyone outside the car stood quietly.
"Bang!"
Just then, Bai Hongbo jumped out of the car with tears on his face and pulled out a knife from inside the car.
"What are you doing?!"
Kong Zhenghui tried to stop him.
"You dog, you're the one who got my brother killed!" Bai Hongbo looked hatefully at Liang Feng in the other car, pushing Kong Zhenghui away as he shouted: "Get out of my way, I'm going to chop him to death!"
Liang Feng turned pale with fright, hiding in the car, not daring to move.
"Calm down," Kong Zhenghui pushed against Bai Hongbo. "Killing him now won't solve anything!"
"Kong Zhenghui, get out of my way, don't make me turn against you!" Bai Hongbo gripped his knife, his gaze manic.
Kong Zhenghui pushed against Bai Hongbo's shoulders with both hands and said in a low voice: "Don't worry about anything, I'll give you an answer, okay? Do you trust me or not?!"
Bai Hongbo was breathing heavily.
At the same time, Su Tianyu got into the second car and grabbed Liang Feng's collar: "Get out! Are you waiting to die if you don't get out?!"
"Oh, okay, okay...!" Liang Feng nodded repeatedly and stepped out of the car.
Su Tianyu didn't look at Big Bai, but gave Old Black a look and led Liang Feng toward the woods by the river.
"Calm down!" Kong Zhenghui pushed Bai Hongbo away and turned to follow Su Tianyu and the others.
......
Five minutes later, deep in the woods.
Su Tianyu grabbed Liang Feng's collar and asked word by word: "Who did you rat out?"
"I... I only ratted out Brother Black, really!" Liang Feng leaned against a tree trunk and said in a trembling voice. "They beat my parents... and did things to my wife, I had no choice, that's why I talked."
"Damn it, you dare to lie?!" Kong Zhenghui took his knife and pressed it against Liang Feng's chest. "I'll give you one last chance. Tell us, how exactly did you get caught, and who did you rat out?"
Liang Feng turned pale and didn't dare answer for a moment.
"If we could find that place, we couldn't possibly be completely in the dark, understand?" Su Tianyu gripped Liang Feng's neck. "Speak! What exactly happened?!"
At these words, Kong Zhenghui pushed the knife forward, its tip piercing Liang Feng's chest skin, drawing blood.
"I... I'll tell you, I'll tell you!" Liang Feng immediately nodded. "I also ratted out that military intermediary... I told Xu Er that this job was arranged by the Yu family, that there was an intermediary in the military."
"What else?!"
"Oh, also... they found me... because I took a few watches that day on the boat," Liang Feng replied, looking down. "I was possessed by greed. I thought with so many goods, no one would know if I took a few, so... so I pocketed some."
"Let me tell you, this matter has already cost lives. If you lie again, not only will you implicate everyone, but you'll die too," Kong Zhenghui stared with bulging eyes and shouted. "Besides the intermediary, did you rat out any other workers? Tell the truth!"
"Really no, I don't know the others well, how could I rat them out?"
"Son of a bitch, I have informants in the dock gang, you still dare to lie?" Su Tianyu gripped his neck, applying force with one hand. "Stab him!"
Kong Zhenghui made to stab, and at this point Liang Feng patted the tree trunk with his right hand, shouting unclearly: "I swear, I've told everything, really nothing hidden. I really don't know Brother Black's people well...!"
Su Tianyu stared into his eyes for a while, then slowly released his right hand.
"Thud!"
Liang Feng sat on the ground, crying as he said: "I know I was wrong, really, I almost got my whole family killed..."
Su Tianyu looked at Old Black, then suddenly bent down and pulled out a gun to hand to him.
Liang Feng was stunned.
"Outside, the dock gang people will still look for you. I have a very good friend in Zone One. I'll call him in a bit to send people to pick you up. After you get to Zone One, don't come back for at least two years. Whatever my friend tells you to do, you do it," Su Tianyu said in a low voice, holding out the gun. "Take the gun for self-defense, Old Black will escort you first."
"Then... what about my family?" Liang Feng asked.
"With all that fighting earlier, your parents aren't stupid, they must have run!" Kong Zhenghui replied. "You can contact them on the way."
"Good, good!" Liang Feng reached out to take the gun.
Su Tianyu stood up and said to Old Black: "You escort him then."
"Mm!"
Old Black nodded.
Kong Zhenghui followed behind Su Tianyu, about to walk out of the woods.
"Let's go," Old Black said expressionlessly to Liang Feng.
"Oh, okay."
Ten minutes later, deeper in the dense forest, Liang Feng walked in front of Old Black and suddenly said: "Bro... Brother Black, I don't really want to go to Zone One."
"You don't want to go to Zone One...?" Old Black was about to reply.
"Whoosh!"
Liang Feng raised his arm tremblingly, pointing the gun at Old Black and said: "...Things have gotten so big, no one knows where it will end... If I go to Zone One... my life won't be in my hands anymore."
Old Black looked at him: "You're playing tricks again?!"
"I fucking want to go my own way!" Liang Feng shouted manically. "Give me some money, I'll count it as borrowed from you."
"Whoosh!"
Old Black drew his knife: "You're too nervous. That kid doesn't like to get blood on his hands, didn't you notice?"
Liang Feng was stunned for a moment and quickly pulled the trigger, but the gun only made an empty click.
"I've done my duty, brother," Old Black stepped forward, his left hand resting on Liang Feng's shoulder, his right arm swinging.
"Squelch, squelch...!"
Liang Feng was stabbed multiple times, his chest and neck all pierced through.
Old Black turned his head to scan the surroundings, straddled Liang Feng as he slowly lowered him, then nimbly put on wool gloves.
......
"Screech!"
Two cars stopped by Dragon River, and Yu Mingyuan stepped out, looking up and asking: "Why haven't you gone back?"
Everyone looked at him without saying a word.
Bai Dabiao turned around slowly, stepped out of the car, and looked at Yu Mingyuan, asking directly: "Xu Er killed my son, your Yu family is in charge. I'm asking you now, what the fuck do you have to say about this?!"
