Chapter 95: Outside District Matters Stay Outside
In the subsidiary trading company of the Dock Workers General Association.
"Hello, Battalion Commander Feng," the man receiving guests downstairs greeted Battalion Commander Feng politely.
"Where are they?" Battalion Commander Feng nodded in response.
"This way, please," the man made a welcoming gesture and led the way upstairs.
Battalion Commander Feng was young, about thirty years old, with a robust build, dark skin, and a very masculine, handsome appearance.
The two walked upstairs together, and the reception man pushed open the conference room door in the left corridor, looking up to call out: "Old Gu, your friend is here."
"Oh my, please come in!" an old man sitting in a chair called out with a smile.
Battalion Commander Feng stepped into the room, also wearing a smile: "Quite a crowd here!"
"Sit, sit!" The dock gang elder who had called Battalion Commander Feng stood up and extended his hand, saying: "Haven't seen you for quite a while, hehe."
"Yes, we've been implementing rotation shifts lately, taking the troops out of the city every day."
"Come, come, sit!" The old man pulled Battalion Commander Feng to sit beside him.
Gu Tongshan lit a cigarette and took a deep drag, not speaking first.
In the room, except for the old man who stood up to greet Battalion Commander Feng, everyone else had unpleasant expressions and didn't actively engage with Little Feng.
After everyone was seated, no one spoke first, creating an awkward atmosphere in the room.
"Little Feng, Xu Hu is Old Gu's disciple. Reaching an agreement with him means reaching an agreement with the Zha'nan dock gang," the elder introduced.
Battalion Commander Feng sat lazily in his chair and turned to look at Gu Tongshan, saying: "The Yu family has always had good relations with our garrison. Yu Mingyuan just called me, saying his people caused some trouble outside the district, asking me to help mediate. How about it, Old Gu, can you give our garrison some face?"
Gu Tongshan glanced at him: "Xu Hu's brother is dead."
"Yes, I heard," Battalion Commander Feng nodded. "Didn't he die outside the district?"
"Death outside the district doesn't count as death?" Gu Tongshan asked with furrowed brows.
"The Yu family also lost someone, Bai Dabiao's son," Battalion Commander Feng replied directly.
At these words, everyone in the room was stunned, including Gu Tongshan, who looked at him in surprise: "The Bai family also lost someone?"
"Yes," Battalion Commander Feng said with a light smile. "My point is, both sides have lost people, so let's keep outside district matters outside, don't bring them into the district."
Gu Tongshan was silent for several seconds: "And then?"
"There wasn't supposed to be an 'and then,' but since you asked, I'll make a decision on behalf of the Yu family," Battalion Commander Feng said with his hands in his sleeves. "The outside district matter ends here. For the sea business inside the district, everyone takes a step back. You give up one route to let Yu Mingyuan do business, and I'll have them give you thirty percent of the profits."
"What about our over ten million in lost goods? And the more than ten people who were arrested, how do we account for that?"
"The customs and police bureau seized the goods, you can't put that account on the Yu family, can you?" Battalion Commander Feng held up three fingers. "Thirty percent profit is not small."
"Joking!" an old man beside Gu Tongshan cursed with an extremely unpleasant expression. "No compensation for the goods, no arrangements for the people in trouble, and just with your word, everything from before is forgotten? If we only wanted thirty percent profit, would things have come to this point? Battalion Commander Feng, though you're a garrison military officer, you still need to be reasonable, right?"
Battalion Commander Feng paused for several seconds, squinting at him: "Do you think I came here in the middle of the night to argue nonsense with you?"
The other person looked at Battalion Commander Feng, who stared back at him, both sides at an impasse.
"Bang!"
Just then, the conference room door was pushed open, and two middle-aged men walked in. One wore a navy uniform with captain's insignia on his shoulders.
"Oh my, Battalion Commander Feng, long time no see!" The plainclothes man in front of the navy captain walked in with a smile.
Battalion Commander Feng turned around: "Hehe, doing well, Brother Liu."
The navy's plainclothes man walked to Battalion Commander Feng's side, patted his shoulder, and said in a relaxed tone: "Isn't your army doing some rotation system lately? Heard you're taking troops out running everywhere every day, hehe, how do you have time to discuss this today?"
"A friend called me!"
"Yu Mingyuan!" The plainclothes man waved at the elder beside Battalion Commander Feng, gesturing for him to sit aside.
The elder stood up, and the plainclothes man sat down beside Battalion Commander Feng: "You have a very good relationship with Yu Mingyuan?"
"I didn't come because of personal relationships. The Yu family has always had good relations with the garrison."
"Damn!" The plainclothes man cursed with a laugh, replying softly: "Is that little trouble outside the district worth you coming to discuss? Past the border line, that's a place without law. If those below have conflicts, let them resolve it themselves. Whoever has the ability kills whoever they can, why should we worry about that?"
Battalion Commander Feng squinted at him: "Not going to manage it?"
The plainclothes man stared at Battalion Commander Feng, saying with a smile: "Xu Hu has been working hard with his head down all these years, if not merit then at least effort, right? His brother is dead, and I just say forget about it? Isn't that nonsense? That would dishearten the brothers below!"
Battalion Commander Feng fell silent.
"If the Yu family's people have the ability, then let them swagger into the city. Once past the border line, they're legal citizens protected by law," the plainclothes man turned back to look at Gu Tongshan. "Our dock gang can't commit crimes inside the district, right?"
"Hehe, no we can't," Gu Tongshan nodded.
The plainclothes man looked at Battalion Commander Feng again: "Let's leave it at that! Outside district matters get resolved outside, we'll talk when people come back?"
Battalion Commander Feng slowly stood up, looking down at the plainclothes man: "Are those your words?!"
"Yes, my words. Once people enter the city, Xu Hu will have to swallow his anger no matter how he feels," the plainclothes man replied softly. "But! If people haven't come in, haha, then our garrison shouldn't throw a tantrum either."
"Hehe, fine," Battalion Commander Feng responded and turned to leave.
"Take care!" The plainclothes man called out from his chair without getting up.
......
Five minutes later.
Back in his car, Battalion Commander Feng dialed a number: "Uncle Yu, the navy is firmly backing Xu Hu, saying if our people can safely enter the city, they'll accept it."
"The navy's attitude is that firm?" Yu Jinrong was somewhat surprised.
"Yes," Battalion Commander Feng nodded. "They definitely won't dare to move against the garrison's patrol post, but outside is definitely surrounded by dock gang people. Whether to pick up or send out, it's your decision."
"Alright, I understand," Yu Jinrong frowned and hung up the phone.
......
Ten minutes later.
In Patrol Post No. 04, the duty squad leader called Yu Mingyuan out and said softly: "You leave first, we'll send the rest."
"I leave first?" Yu Mingyuan frowned at him. "Who said that?!"
"People above said so, let you leave first, don't worry about anything else."
"Impossible!" Yu Mingyuan took out his phone: "I'll call the higher-ups."
Inside.
Su Zhengcai hung up the phone and said softly to Su Tianyu: "Damn it, Wang Daolin called me, saying the dock gang has brought out four to five hundred people, they're going to start a fucking border war. Little Six, can those above really hold them back?!"
