Chapter 54 The Special Hobby of Lawyer Huang

Luo Hao was clad in a blue police uniform, a mug steeped in tea in his hand. With his hair combed into a neat crew cut, he exuded an air of efficiency.

He entered the room, closed the door securely behind him, and placed his mug on the table. Dragging a chair closer, he sat down in front of Qin Chao.

"Alright, you've had time to think. It's time to come clean. How we handle you depends on your attitude towards your confession. Cooperation brings leniency, resistance meets severity. Speak!"

"Alright then, let me 'come clean'." Suspecting a trap, Qin Chao, leaning lazily against the radiator, said, "My name is Qin Chao, I'm 23 years old, male, single, a bachelor. I work as a security guard at Guangyuan International Economics Academy, earning a monthly salary of 4,000, insufficient to buy a house. Some 'expert' suggested that women of my generation marry 40-year-old men, and when we turn 40, if we are capable, we should marry 20-year-old women. I think what that expert said is utterly bullshit."

"Qin Chao!" Luo Hao glared, realizing that the conversation was deviating wildly. He slapped the chair, standing abruptly, pointing at Qin Chao's nose, "Let me tell you, you are already a person of interest to the higher-ups. Don't think anyone's going to help you. You're alone in Sunan City; I want to see who would stick their neck out for you!"

Luo Hao slapped a piece of paper in front of Qin Chao, saying, "You deliberately plotted to murder Miss Zhang Cuiran. We've thoroughly investigated, we have all the evidence, your sophistry won't work. And another thing, tell me, are you linked to the 113 major case? Our investigations show that you had issues with Fang Hua, you even beat him up at school! Speak up, did you do it?"

"Hey, got a cigarette?" Qin Chao slightly furrowed his brow, but hid it well, extending his hand out, gesturing for a smoke.

Qin Chao's mind was spinning, Luo Hao actually suspected his involvement in the 113 major case. Did he recognize him? But his gaze suggested otherwise, perhaps this cop was bluffing, just trying to muddy the waters.

Having figured this out, Qin Chao concealed his expression, calmly observing Luo Hao.

"Without a clear confession, you won't even be allowed a sip of water, let alone a smoke."

"That's torture."

"For a murderer like you, there's no sympathy to be had." Luo Hao sat back down, pulling out a Zhonghua cigarette, inhaling deeply.

"No need to trouble yourself then." To Luo Hao's astonishment, Qin Chao yanked his arm, the handcuffs clanged and incredibly, were torn off the radiator, still hanging from his wrist.

Qin Chao reached into his pocket with one hand and pulled out a five yuan Red River cigarette, while his other hand retrieved a lighter, he lit the cigarette against the radiator.

"You… How did you…" Luo Hao was stunned, the Zhonghua cigarette fell onto his police uniform, burning a hole in it.

"Ah!" He yelped in pain, leaping from his chair to brush away the lit cigarette.

"Does that concern you?" Qin Chao, utterly relaxed and leaning against the radiator, seemed to switch roles with Luo Hao, as though he wasn't the one under interrogation.

"What are you boasting about?" Luo Hao was gritting his teeth in anger, "You are a murder suspect. You might be strong, but can you dodge the bullet of the law?"

"Who did I kill?" Qin Chao exhaled a cloud of smoke, scoffed and asked, "Is this how you police handle cases? Where are these witnesses and evidence you talk about? I haven't seen any."

While talking, Qin Chao took out his phone and checked the time, then continued, "Since the moment you put me here, nearly four hours have passed. At most, you can detain me for another 20 hours, it's fine, I can keep this up."

Worst case scenario, he mused, he would miss a day's work. Plus, Su Ji would definitely arrange leave for him, though the deducted salary for the leave… well, no matter, let it be whatever it was.

"Your cunning won't save you," Luo Hao sneered, pointing at the paper on the floor, "Think it over and sign this when you're ready. Let me tell you, the longer you delay, the worse it'll be for you."

Having said that, he picked up his mug from the table. Without bothering to re-handcuff Qin Chao to the radiator, he walked straight out of the interrogation room.

Of course, Qin Chao knew he couldn't leave, this was a police station, Luo Hao's men were everywhere. Even if he had a hundred pairs of legs, he wouldn't be able to run out.

If he really wanted to escape, he could use his ability to turn invisible, but he could only hide for so long.

So he didn't bother trying to escape, he was all in. He wanted to see what tricks these cops could play after the 24-hour mark.

Let it drag on, he'd see who could outlast the other.

Several more hours passed, and Qin Chao finished smoking his packet of cigarettes, without any cops coming to see him. He simply positioned his chair, sat down with his feet on the table, and leaned back like a man without a care.

It wasn't until after three in the afternoon that the door of the interrogation room was finally pushed open again.

A man in a black suit holding a briefcase walked in. He adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, stunned at the sight of Qin Chao lounging like a lord. He stepped back, looking up to confirm, yes, he was indeed in the interrogation room.

"I strongly protest!" The man with the gold-rimmed glasses, looking rather refined, immediately shouted, "You've driven my client insane, look at him, he's not normal anymore!"

"He's perfectly normal," Luo Hao walked in expressionlessly, "We've merely detained him according to the law, without any form of abuse. If you don't believe me, you can take him for a medical examination."

"Hello, my name is Huang Tianliang, I am the lawyer Miss Su Ji hired, specifically for your case." The gold-rimmed glasses man approached, shaking hands with Qin Chao as he introduced himself, "You can leave now, but if they used any excessive methods on you, you can tell me."

"It's nothing, they just didn't allow me to eat or drink," Qin Chao waved it off.

"Very good." Huang Tianliang nodded. Then, he turned around and immediately protested sternly, "I object! This is abuse of my client, I am going to file a complaint against you!"

"Feel free!" Luo Hao disregarded the lawyer and turned to leave the interrogation room.

"Actually, I was just trying to intimidate them, they're probably used to these kinds of complaints." Huang Tianliang gave Qin Chao a smile, "Su Ji and I are old classmates. I heard her friend was in trouble, so I hurried over. So, you're accused of murder?"

"Yes, apparently, I killed a woman who was buying vegetables at the market," Qin Chao shrugged. Under the watchful eyes of a group of police officers, he and Huang Tianliang walked out of the police station in grand style.

"What was the motive?"

"How would I know? You should ask them," Qin Chao gestured to the police officers behind him, and Huang Tianliang nodded in understanding.

"It seems you've angered someone you shouldn't have," the lawyer murmured into Qin Chao's ear.

"Who knows..." Qin Chao thought to himself, choosing not to voice his thoughts.

Upon exiting the police station, Su Ji was waiting outside on Qin Chao's bicycle. When she saw Qin Chao come out, her eyes reddened, and she immediately rushed over and threw her arms around his waist.

"Thank God, you're finally out! You scared me to death!" The girl's grip was strong, making Qin Chao slightly short of breath.

"Did they hit you?" Su Ji looked up at Qin Chao's face, seemingly looking for signs of bruising.

"No, they're not capable of that." Qin Chao spoke with a hint of arrogance. As a cultivator now, he wasn't afraid of a fight.

"That's good, that's good..."

"Cough cough..." Huang Tianliang coughed artificially from the side.

It was only then that Su Ji realized there was another person standing behind her. Her face turned slightly red, and she let go of Qin Chao's waist, stepping back.

"Beauty, no wonder so many people have been ruthlessly rejected by you over the years, you already have a man!" Huang Tianliang said, dramatically clutching his chest, "Ah, it hurts my Chinese heart!"

"Drop dead! Don't talk nonsense!" Su Ji rolled her eyes and whispered into Qin Chao's ear, "Don't believe him, he's gay."

"Su Ji, what are you murmuring about?" Huang Tianliang leaned in curiously.

"Nothing!" Su Ji waved her hand, while Qin Chao stepped back slightly, thinking to himself, ‘Good grief, he shares the same preference as Chen Yingyang. Maybe I could matchmake them.’

"Alright, I won't intrude on your alone time." Huang Tianliang checked his designer watch, "I have a case to attend to, I'm in a rush. Next time I'll treat you to a meal, hehe!"

Having said that, he walked over to the adjacent parking lot and drove away splendidly in a Porsche 911.

"A Porsche..." Qin Chao looked at the sports car, then back at his own bicycle, "The gap is just too huge."

"Although my classmate's sexual orientation might not be great, his skills in legal battles are top-notch. Sometimes, he makes a fortune from a single case." Su Ji patted the back seat of the bike, "Stop envying him. Today, I'll calm your nerves by giving you a bike ride. Come on, hop on, I'll make you some persimmon scrambled eggs when we get home."

"Great, a delicacy." Qin Chao didn't dally, he promptly seated himself on the bike's back seat, casually placing his hand on Su Ji's shoulder.

"Hold on tight, I ride fast!" Su Ji glanced back at this hypocritical gentleman.

Qin Chao coughed twice before lowering his hand and placing it around Su Ji's soft, delicate waist. It was soft as boneless, an excellent touch – that was Qin Chao's assessment.

"You, don't grope around!" Su Ji twisted her waist a little and spoke somewhat unnaturally, "I'm ticklish!"

"Alright, alright, I get it..." Qin Chao chuckled, wrapping his arm around Su Ji's waist, "Okay, let's go!"

"OK, today you'll witness my riding skills. Let's not play with Cayenne anymore, look, there's a Lamborghini, let's have a go with it!"

"You might as well kill me..."

"Hmph, less talking, let's get going!"
