Chapter 209: The Blemish

Early the next morning.

After finishing his washing up, Su Tianyu walked to the family living room, waving to Second Uncle and others saying: "I won't eat - I'm going to Boss Yu's place."

"What's the rush?" Second Uncle looked up asking.

"Good news, he's going to find connections to help submit my civil service exam application materials," Su Tianyu replied in a very good mood before quickly walking out of the courtyard.

Second Uncle watched Su Tianyu's back with a smile, cursing: "This kid has really landed a big fish. Good - passing the civil service exam would make my careful nurturing worthwhile."

"I beg you, Dad, can you not talk so big?" Su Tianbei replied very unconvinced. "Among us brothers, who needed your nurturing? If we had learned from you, we'd probably all have thirty-year sentences now..."

Second Uncle swung a slap over: "Damn it, giving money doesn't count as nurturing?! You kids, how much money have you cost me? Especially you - never behaving since you were small - just the money I spent settling your troubles would be enough to marry a second wife."

"Are you crazy?" Second Aunt cursed sideways. "The children are still here - at your age, you don't have any filter at all!"

"I was just making a comparison?!"

"Then I'll make a comparison too - tomorrow I'll go play with the old men at the Longkou church."

"...Alright, alright, stop arguing," Su Miaomiao persuaded in breakdown. "Why do you bicker every time we eat? Are you all going through menopause?"

The Su family lived every day in this kind of clamor - everyone was used to it anyway.

......

Around 10 AM.

Yu Jinrong sat in his villa and threw Su Tianyu's file on the table: "Take a look."

Su Tianyu dubiously picked up the file, opened it to scan the contents, and his smile immediately froze.

"How do you have a political blemish?" Yu Jinrong asked very surprised. "What did you do in the military?"

After reading the file, Su Tianyu was very downcast and took quite a while before responding: "It's not my problem - it's my parents' problem."

"Do your parents have a direct connection to this?" Though Yu Jinrong knew Su Tianyu had no parents, he had never deeply asked about his family situation.

Su Tianyu lit a cigarette and replied looking down: "I'm not very clear either, but my father and mother probably participated in some movements opposing Zone One's Chinese regime back then, then were labeled as rebels, and finally... were sentenced."

Yu Jinrong looked up saying: "Was it that purge of the Red Party six or seven years ago?"

Su Tianyu was stunned: "Yes, that time."

"Ah," Yu Jinrong sighed deeply hearing this. "Your father... what was the need? His position was already quite high - why do these things?"

"Perhaps he had no choice," Su Tianyu replied softly. "His direct superior was one of the planners."

Yu Jinrong nodded hearing this and asked with a grave expression: "Then with this blemish, how were you able to finish university in the military?"

"Partly because my father's friends from before took care of me - they wanted me to finish school; partly because I had earned merit on the battlefield - my direct superior was willing to protect me," Su Tianyu replied hoarsely. "You understand - the military and civilian sides are two different departments - it's quite hard for political departments to interfere. Moreover, I was just an insignificant nobody - they probably thought I was nothing and couldn't be bothered to pursue it."

"Little Yu, this blemish is very serious," Yu Jinrong said directly. "Political crimes affect three generations - these aren't empty words. With this in your file, it will be difficult to take the civil service exam in Dragon City."

"I didn't expect they would put this into the file," Su Tianyu's composure also broke, because he had returned to Dragon City wanting to take the civil service exam, but now looking at this, it seemed that plan was completely finished.

Yu Jinrong sat on the sofa and after long thought said: "Little Yu, let's have a heart-to-heart talk."

Su Tianyu looked up: "Please speak!"

"We've been in contact for quite a while now - I approve of your abilities and character," Yu Jinrong said with hands in sleeves. "You're a very excellent young person - I like you very much, otherwise I wouldn't keep you by me and Mingyuan's side."

"Mm."

"I can't always put all my energy into the association, into the docks," Yu Jinrong said directly. "Because I have political ambitions, so for many future matters under the Yu family banner, I want you and Mingyuan to manage them together. Do you understand my meaning?"

"I understand, Uncle Yu."

"This matter of your file is very troublesome - ordinary connections can't remove it, because the political review department operates independently from other departments. Especially in a city like Dragon City with a Chinese majority, it inherently has certain special characteristics, so political reviews are particularly strict," Yu Jinrong paused before saying. "But I'll help you think of ways - I can't say for certain it can be done, but I'll try my best."

Su Tianyu never expected Yu Jinrong, who usually didn't like to speak up or make promises to people, would say such heartfelt words to him.

"If it can be washed away, that's naturally best. If it can't be washed away, then put all your effort into doing the association with Mingyuan - the future will still be good," Yu Jinrong supported himself to stand up. "I don't look favorably on many young people - you count as one. Do well - I won't treat you poorly, and even less the Su family."

"Thank you for your trouble, Uncle Yu!" Su Tianyu nodded with a serious expression.

Actually, whether it was Su Tianyu sniping Gu Tongshan or later orchestrating the dock gang's internal strife at Tianhong Port, he was just the specific executor and operator of events - but the one truly making decisions, working connections, and controlling the big picture was Yu Jinrong behind the scenes.

A boss doesn't need to know everything clearly, much less consider everything himself - if so, he would be exhausted to death sooner or later. They only need to choose to nod or shake their head at critical moments, and Yu Jinrong possessed this courage and ability.

That day, Su Tianyu accompanied Old Master Yu walking in the courtyard for a long time. The other told him not to think about anything now - study what he needed to study, handle association matters that needed handling, and as for the blemish matter, he would find connections to handle it.

In fact, after Su Tianyu left that evening, Yu Jinrong met with a friend of his in Dragon City's political department and drank over a jin of baijiu to handle Dog Six's matter.

Yu Jinrong's such doting wasn't without reason - he was paving the way for his son, keeping talented people and wealth.

......

The Tianhong Port case was still under investigation, while the dock association was busy selecting new leaders for the two major districts.

And so, days passed swiftly in peaceful and fulfilling times.

In the blink of an eye, five months passed, and Dragon City was about to welcome a new round of civil service examinations.

Before the exam, Su Tianyu flew to Huadu carrying recent association materials. He planned to report recent work situations to the Zhou family, and take An Qiqi and Zhou Tonghui back together, as well as handle how to settle Daxiong's matter...

......

In Zone Three, in a shabby hotel, a man eating leftover spicy crayfish from the night before cursed through gritted teeth: "I'll definitely go back!"
